Sheffield Wednesday win again - Our Owls writers are on hand to discuss another big victory
Transcript
00:00 Joe Crown and Alex Miller here from the Sheffield Star, happily reflecting on yet another win
00:06 for the Owls. This one just about as impressive as any of them.
00:11 2024 was a great year, big fan. Yeah, no, today was start to finish, you know, obviously
00:17 they conceded which wasn't ideal but it was an unlucky way to concede, there's not really
00:21 anything anyone could do about it, even the way the penalty got given was unlucky. But
00:26 they just looked really accomplished tonight, you know, the interplay that they were putting
00:31 together, the individual performance, I think, you know, not just as goal scorers but I thought
00:36 Gossama, Johnson and Windass were all really good today. And it just feels like a really
00:42 coherent unit. There's so many injuries, there's suspensions
00:47 to big players, they were involved in a really gruelling battle just the other side of the
00:53 weekend and to come in and play with the intensity and the swagger that they did is so impressive
00:59 because it's not like Danny Rielly that has the squad particularly with all the injuries
01:02 to say right I'm going to change four of the attackers, I'm going to do this, that and
01:06 the other. He's spoken about the mentality of the squad and you've got to say that's
01:10 quite impressive. It is and I mean it's not often you see a
01:14 Friday-Monday turnaround and like you mentioned the way that the game played out against Preston
01:19 it was draining, it took a lot out of them and a lot of those players had to just go
01:25 out and do it again tonight and you know they were on it from the first minute, you know,
01:30 the pressure that they imposed on the opposition and I think it was also impressive when it
01:35 didn't work for 45 minutes, you know, the final pass was lacking, the final cross was
01:39 lacking but they just kind of stuck at it and obviously got the reward in the second
01:44 half and just a lot of good performances out there today.
01:48 On the injury front, Josh Windass was able to make his first start in a little while,
01:54 Mamadi Abi, Michael Smith, Malik Wilkes back ahead of time.
01:58 Quite a lot ahead of time as well. Yeah and with, you know, we're out of this
02:02 sort of mad period of three games a week and all the rest of it, it feels like there's
02:07 real momentum behind Sheffield Wednesday. Yeah, especially at home, you know, people
02:12 always talk about how important Hillsborough can be and you felt it today, you know, after
02:18 the first goal there was like this massive roar that went up when the game restarted
02:22 and you see the, to have got through the period, obviously there's still a lot of players
02:27 who, I mean, I was looking today and you can basically build a very decent starting 11
02:31 with the players that were doubtful or unavailable and to see those guys coming back and you're
02:37 starting to, sort of to get through what they got through with that amount of injuries,
02:42 if you can start to build on it now, a few fresh faces in January and yeah, it's, there's
02:47 teams looking down now and Wednesday are just three points off safety which, you go back
02:52 a few weeks and that looked barely possible in such a short space of time anyway.
02:57 Indeed, right, we'll leave it there for now. That'll be all the reaction to this one. Build
03:01 up to the FA Cup, the FA Cup is here already, it's moving apace in Cardiff City and everything.
03:06 They've got to offer all that and more as ever at thestart.co.uk
