00:00 Joe Crown and Alex Miller here from the Sheffield Star winding down on a chastening afternoon for Wednesday here at the MKM Stadium.
00:10 Bringing up 4-2 losers against Hull City, a side that not many are expecting to be one of the powerhouse in the Championship this season, they may well argue that.
00:19 And to be fair, 4-2 I think flattered Wednesday.
00:22 Yeah, certainly did. They never really got into it. They had next and no possession. It's the sort of thing that you can excuse a little bit against Southampton.
00:31 It's a very different ballgame when you come in here and have 27% possession. They came in fairly flat to the seam, because they did nothing.
00:39 There was no real attacking threat. The first goal was pretty well worked. The senior had a few question marks over whether that should have counted or not.
00:47 The second goal was a really nice ball from George Byers. Two players who didn't start the game, who scored at what credit and scored that one.
00:54 But it just felt like a lot of nothing for Wednesday, didn't it?
00:58 Yeah, I think particularly concerning, and look, this is early days. It's been hammered to us to pass on to everyone else that patience is important.
01:08 Wednesday are trying to do something completely different to what they've done. Obviously stepping up into a new division.
01:14 The most concerning thing for me was that second half and just the way they went about it. It's such an easy thing to say and it's a lazy thing to say.
01:22 It just looked a little bit devoid of scrap. The plan wasn't too apparent. Cisco walked in, we've just spoken to him there, and said that he has to take his share.
01:37 Just tell the good folks what Moralesi had to say.
01:41 Yeah, he came in and you asked him what went wrong and he said a lot of it was on him. His mistakes, his decisions, which is admirable.
01:51 He's coming in and shouldering the blame. But it just didn't really look like they had much of a plan with any of it, did it?
01:58 One of the things he kept hammering home in the press conference today was the lack of winning of duels.
02:03 He said that from early doors as well. Yeah, not just today. He basically said every duel that wasn't won today, they lost it.
02:12 That's obviously something that he's not happy about. He's spoken a lot about physical condition. He said that he thought that was lacking in the second half as well.
02:19 He did say that he thought that the first half, I think it may have been lost in translation a little bit, but he sort of alluded to the fact that the first half was more what they wanted than the second half.
02:33 The second half, they were just not bad at their races at all. They got cut apart too easily. The space that they gave, especially for his goals, you can't give Jamshed quality players that kind of time.
02:49 You can maybe do it at a league one level, but you can't do it here.
02:52 There's a swirling wind here at the FKM Stadium, so apologies if that's affecting the sound quality.
02:59 It feels like there's been a big sea change in terms of the personnel, Joe. Wednesday won 96 points last season.
03:07 We know the demands of the two divisions that they've jumped into are very, very different.
03:13 Is that something to sort of make note of? I think there were only three new players in the Wednesday starting line-up today, but you're looking at Barry Bannon came off with injury.
03:23 There's more about that on the start website. Josh Windass came off with half an hour to go. So did Lee Gregory.
03:30 You're looking at Marvin Johnson, Rhys James, not in the squad. The bench, Valk, Spiers, Dawson, obviously the goalkeeper situation.
03:37 Player of the season, Liam Palmer.
03:39 What's your read on that?
03:41 I think it's difficult to judge at this point because, for instance, Liam Palmer's coming back from an injury.
03:47 The Johnson one is really interesting. He's been so crucial for Wednesday over the last couple of seasons.
03:53 I think since he's come to the club only, Bannon's got more assist than he has.
03:58 He's a player that it's one thing not starting him, but to not have him as an option on the bench is interesting.
04:06 In any of the games, particularly the club game on Tuesday.
04:08 The response when asked why he's not there today was, "You're going to have to ask him."
04:16 I can't see him being put under pressure by the club on Thursday.
04:20 I don't think he'll be doing that.
04:22 You can't read too much into this point because that might be a case of fitness levels.
04:31 It might be a case of trying to figure out how players fit in.
04:36 Today, I think I looked and four players played 30-plus games for Wednesday last season from the start of the season.
04:43 It does feel like a bit of a change in the guard moment.
04:46 We'll have to see what happens in the next few weeks on that.
04:49 It would be a shame to lose a momentum like we picked up last season.
04:53 That grit and everything that we saw over the second leg of Peterborough.
04:59 The fact that I've seen that sort of play into the evening would be a real shame.
05:04 Lots to comment on the star.co.uk as we picked this one apart.
05:07 Preston, obviously on Saturday, no midweek games.
05:09 Some more time for Sisco and the coaching staff to further instil their plans and everything they've got on Wednesday.
05:17 A chasing start to the season.
05:21 Patience, patience, patience has been drilled into us, but afternoons like this certainly don't help on that front.
