Discussing Sheffield Wednesday's heavy defeat to Plymouth Argyle
Transcript
00:00 So, Cran and Alex Miller here for the Sheffield start at Home Park in Plymouth after a 3-0
00:05 defeat. This isn't a happy hunting ground for Sheffield Wednesday but the fact is there
00:09 aren't many of those at the minute. 15 competitive games this season, yet to see a win, two goals
00:15 in 11 matches now, it's all fairly miserable. The first half an hour was pretty encouraging.
00:21 Yeah, probably the best we've seen Wednesday play for a sustained period of the season.
00:26 We were aiding plenty, we looked dangerous down both sides, had players who were busy
00:31 getting stuck in, working hard, press was really good. And then they score a brilliant
00:37 free kick after a little bit of a break. Wittwick hit the post early on with a great effort.
00:45 But yeah, free kick goes in, two minutes later, Paul Valentin and Dominic Ofer have had a
00:51 mix-up at the back. Easy slot into the goal for a player like Morgan Wittwick and at that
00:56 point the game was done. For a team that hasn't scored since Middlesbrough, getting one goal
01:01 here was always going to be tough. To get more than that was difficult. But yeah, it
01:06 just really feels like this weather, to be honest. It's very miserable and this is quite
01:12 a good indicator of where Wednesday's situation is at the moment.
01:17 It's October, I'm very wary of saying it's October, but it's starting to look a very
01:24 tall order. It's 11 points now, the deficit to the safety places. You would say in October
01:29 that's not impossible by any stretch. But in a team that just can't seem to buy a goal,
01:37 it's starting to look a very long way away.
01:38 Yeah, and I think that's it, isn't it? If you're 11 at drift but you're constantly bidding
01:45 games all the way through. But up until the last two, Wednesday haven't really looked
01:51 in much. I think it is important to say, at the risk of going, I get people are angry
01:58 and I get people upset, but you can really see the change already in the work that's
02:03 been done. You can see it against Watford, you can see it more so tonight. There is progress
02:09 there in a very short space of time from Danny Real, which is incredibly impressive, but
02:14 the group of players he's never worked with before and whom none of them he signed. But
02:18 yeah, with the lack of goals, you just have to be concerned. There's no sugar coating
02:23 it. Wensley are in a torrid situation and 11 points at drift before Halloween is absolutely
02:28 nuts.
02:29 They're a team bereft of confidence, they're a team that, as we say, at the moment it doesn't
02:34 look like there's much of a clear way out. Sheffield Wednesday need to turn things, they
02:38 need to turn things quickly. It didn't happen here at Plymouth. There were moments, there
02:42 were glimpses of what Danny Real wants to implement and there were sort of things to
02:50 clutch at, but yeah, they're straws at the minute.
02:55 From Home Park, another fun night with Sheffield Wednesday, Joe Cran and Alex Miller.
