00:00 2024 is set to see a host of upgrades on the London Underground network, the network rail
00:07 and buses. Transport for London has revealed plans for modernisation on the city's transport
00:13 system and lots of work will commence in the upcoming year.
00:16 TfL says it is modernising the Piccadilly line in a £2.9 billion investment programme
00:23 to help the line run more reliably, safely, inclusively and sustainably. This includes
00:29 introducing a new fleet of trains that will arrive in 2025.
00:36 As well as the Piccadilly line, the Central line is also undergoing a massive £500 million
00:41 transformation. All 85 of the trains on the line will undergo a comprehensive 10-week
00:48 makeover that will include long-awaited introduction of a CCTV system and new maquette seating.
00:56 One of the top priorities for Transport for London in 2024 is mobile connectivity. It
01:02 confirmed that Tube customers will be able to connect to the internet and get a mobile
01:06 phone signal within most London Underground stations and tunnels by the end of 2024 and
01:13 added to remove as many "not spots" as possible.
01:18 When it comes to the London Overground, TfL are focusing on a Surrey Quays station upgrade.
01:24 Plans are in place to create a new station entrance on the north side of Lower Road that
01:29 will offer more direct access to a nearby new housing development.
01:34 London's DLR service is set to welcome brand new trains as well. TfL confirmed they will
01:39 start introducing the upgraded transportation in 2024 and should have a complete new fleet
01:46 in place by 2026.
01:49 Among other plans in place for next year, environmental issues are high on the agenda
01:53 for TfL. It says its aim is to move forward safely, sustainably and inclusively. The work
01:59 on this includes efforts to reduce noise pollution, improve air quality and encourage wildflower
02:05 growth where possible.
