  • last year
The shadow financial secretary to the treasury says there is nothing the government can do to "repair the damage they've done to our economy", after Chancellor Jeremy Hunt announced his spring Budget will be held on March 6 2024. 00:00 I think whatever day they go ahead with for this budget, the truth is there is
00:04 nothing that Rishi Sunak or Jeremy Hunt can do to repair the damage that
00:07 they've done to our economy. You know this budget will come after 14 years of
00:11 conservative failure on the economy which has left people right across Britain worse off.
00:15 Look, I'm sure there'll be endless speculation about the date of the
00:18 election. We're ready for it whenever it comes because I think what people across
00:21 Britain know is that the tax burden is set to be the highest in 70 years.
00:25 People have already seen 25 tax rises under this government since the last
00:29 election. Growth is on the floor in this country. People are worse off. People want
00:34 change and so whenever the election comes we'll be ready for it. I would put
00:37 money on it being in 2024 but I think I wouldn't go any further than that.
