00:00 Known as one of the toughest prisons in Russia,
00:03 the IK3 penal colony is nicknamed "Polar Wolf."
00:07 It is located above the Arctic Circle, about 2,000 kilometers from Moscow.
00:13 It's also the new home of Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny,
00:17 who had been missing since December 6.
00:20 On Tuesday, Navalny posted on social media that he was well and in high spirits.
00:26 Navalny's spokesperson said she was not surprised he had been transferred secretly without notice.
00:33 She said that even in prison, Navalny is the largest political threat to Vladimir Putin
00:38 in the upcoming presidential elections.
00:41 The thing is that there is no law in Russia that is applied to Alexei.
00:46 They always create for him special conditions, and they don't have anything to do with law.
00:52 Also, they are just trying to make his life as unbearable as it possibly can be
00:58 because this prison will be much worse than the one that was before.
01:04 Navalny has been behind bars since January 2021 when he returned to Moscow.
01:10 He had been recuperating in Germany from nerve agent poisoning that he blamed on the Kremlin.
01:16 Before his arrest, Navalny campaigned against corruption and organized major anti-Kremlin protests.
01:23 He has since spent months in isolation and is serving a 28-year sentence for extremism convictions.
01:30 Navalny has rejected all charges against him as politically motivated.
