00:00 >> Trying to balance all the different possible, I guess,
00:03 things you can get out of the game, whether it's celebrating a successful season,
00:08 or helping to build for the future with some of the young guys, or
00:11 just rewarding those players who are finishing up their career here.
00:16 How do you balance all of those different objectives?
00:18 >> Well, again, first of all, we owe it to eight of these, our seniors.
00:25 We owe it to really the culture of what we do as a football program to put our
00:30 best efforts out to win this football.
00:34 We have a chance to do something that hasn't been done very often in Kansas, and
00:37 that's win nine or more football games.
00:39 So we wanna make sure we stay true to that and
00:41 the routines that we can do to achieve that goal.
00:45 But we also, through our practice formulas and things, formats, and
00:49 what we've done, we also wanna make sure we continue the player development,
00:53 the program development.
00:54 Those are some of the experiences we wanna be on the practice field, or
00:57 a chance to do things on a trip that our young men will grow and
01:01 mature from by just learning, A, staying in a hotel, and
01:05 preparing for a practice or a game, and that routine.
01:08 Because some of our guys, probably a third in this football team or more,
01:12 have never traveled before to the games at this level, and
01:16 all the things that make it hard for them.
01:18 So that's part of the growth process.
01:21 We still talk about taking care of our bodies, and maintaining, and
01:24 getting ready to go to play.
01:25 You have to stop playing for a while.
01:27 So there's so many different things that we can do.
01:30 I mean, being out here, I mentioned recruiting,
01:32 getting a chance to move your own football team on Tuesday night.
01:35 There's just a number of opportunities to showcase this program and build it,
01:39 whether it be through recruiting, bands, engagement, alumni reconnection.
01:45 There's so many things that can be a positive, but
01:48 the best way to do that is to go out and play.
