00:03 [Laughter]
00:07 Welcome to Ms Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the best
00:12 modern family outtakes where any cast members couldn't hold it together.
00:17 "Law, she was loco like polo, loco, loco."
00:19 [Laughter]
00:23 Number 10, The Haircut.
00:25 In the season 2 episode "Regrets Only", Gloria gives Phil a haircut while they're
00:31 trying to figure out what his fight with Claire from the night before was all about.
00:36 "Wait a minute, not even crazy woman go crazy for no reason. What happened before the broccoli?"
00:42 "That's just it, it came out of the blue. I walked in the door,
00:44 we were having a conversation about nothing."
00:46 The final scene has plenty of lol moments for the audience, but during the filming of the scene,
00:52 there was plenty to laugh about for both Ty Burrell and Sofia Vergara.
00:57 "You do everything wrong."
00:58 [Laughter]
01:00 "No, no, it's alright."
01:01 "We don't forget, we wait."
01:04 [Laughter]
01:07 "That is so good."
01:08 Take after take, either Sofia or Ty would break for one reason or another.
01:14 Although according to Sofia, one of the reasons she kept laughing was,
01:18 jokingly, because of Ty's stupid face.
01:22 "My stupid face."
01:23 Number 9, Mnemonic Device
01:25 For the record, what Phil is talking about in the season 2 premiere when discussing how he
01:32 remembers people's names is called a mnemonic device.
01:36 "The other day I met this guy named Carl. Now I might forget that name,
01:39 but he was wearing a Grateful Dead t-shirt. What's a man like the Grateful Dead? Fish.
01:43 Where do fish live? The ocean. What else lives in the ocean? Coral. Hello, coral."
01:49 It's not, as he refers to it, a mnemonic device.
01:54 And if you thought his mispronunciation was funny, you aren't alone.
01:59 Because it cracked up Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen for multiple takes,
02:03 as they kept trying to get through it without breaking.
02:06 "That's why I like to employ what they call a mnemonic device."
02:10 "Mnemonic? Mnemonic?"
02:12 "Hang on."
02:13 One time, it was even someone behind the camera who cracked up first.
02:19 Thus sending Burrell and Bowen to laugh town once again.
02:23 Number 8, Dun-Fee
02:27 Have you ever had to take someone syllable by syllable through the pronunciation of your last
02:33 name? "It's Dun-Fee."
02:35 "That's what I said, Dun-Fee." "Nope, not dum. Dun-Fee."
02:38 "Dum-Fee." "Say Dun."
02:40 "Dun." "Say Fee."
02:41 "Fee." "Dun-Fee."
02:43 "Dum-Fee."
02:43 Did it end in the two of you cracking up? Yeah, us neither.
02:48 But for Ty Burrell and Ed O'Neill, it sure did. And really, can you blame them?
02:53 "Say Dun." "Dun."
02:55 "Dun." "Say Fee."
02:56 Because the way Burrell exaggerates the pronunciation of the Dun and then the Fee,
03:04 we know we sure wouldn't have been able to hold it together.
03:08 In the first take, it's O'Neill that cracks up. And in the second, Burrell also joins in.
03:14 "Say Dun." "Dun."
03:15 "Say Fee." "Fee."
03:17 Number 7, Someone Tooted
03:23 Most of us don't want to admit it, but the truth is that
03:27 no matter how old we get, farts are almost always funny.
03:32 "Great."
03:39 They make us laugh in movies, and the humor in them is proven yet again in this
03:44 modern family outtake.
03:45 "Um, are you sure about that outfit?"
03:47 "Why does this keep happening?"
03:50 "Oh no, you tooted."
03:53 In this scene, the child actor playing Joe Pritchett lets out a little toot,
03:58 and none of the three older actors in the scene can hold it together.
04:03 Although we will point out that the kid himself doesn't break at all.
04:08 Even funnier is the fact that one of them thought it was Adam Devine who'd tooted,
04:13 and not the little kid.
04:14 Number 6, Topless with Matthew Broderick
04:19 The Season 4 episode with Matthew Broderick features some of the show's
04:24 classic character misunderstandings as Phil invites Broderick's Dave over to watch a football game.
04:30 "You know, we have a big game today. Do you want to watch it together?"
04:32 "Oh, uh, well…"
04:34 "Shoot, I'm late for a showing. No pressure at all, but if you feel like it,
04:36 we could watch it at my place. I could text you the address."
04:39 "Alright, well thanks. It was great meeting you, Phil."
04:41 Dave, however, thinks it's a romantic invitation,
04:45 and hysterically, misunderstandings and wordplay ensues.
04:50 As does the semi-undressing of both men, and multiple outtakes as Burrell
04:56 tries to get out his lines without breaking.
04:59 All Broderick has to do is stand there, but keeping a straight face gets harder and harder
05:05 with each broken take. You can even hear the crew behind the camera laughing it up.
05:12 "How about we… Oh, shit!"
05:14 "Alright."
05:19 "Alright!"
05:20 Number 5. Little Aubrey's first day on set.
05:24 Actress Aubrey Anderson-Emmons took over the role of Mitchell and Cameron's
05:29 adopted daughter Lily in season 3.
05:32 "Lily! Come here, honey!"
05:34 "Hi!"
05:35 "Do you know what this is?"
05:36 "A box!"
05:38 "Containing?"
05:39 "She doesn't know containing."
05:40 "Well, that's how she learns new words, by us using them."
05:43 She was only four years old at the time, but apparently,
05:46 she was already a fan of the series, and was aware of the show's characters before she even
05:52 showed up to work.
05:53 "Did you have fun?"
05:54 "Yes, she's the cutest dog in the whole world."
05:57 "Yeah, I heard you the first time."
05:59 "Let's go find your daddies."
06:00 Her first day on the set, Aubrey cracked up the cast and the crew when she came into scene,
06:07 looked at Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet, and told them that she'd seen them
06:13 on Modern Family. Come on, how adorable is that?
06:17 "We saw you guys on Modern Family."
06:20 "Yeah!"
06:20 Number 4 - After Mynt
06:23 Talk to most men, and we're pretty sure they'd agree that prostate exams aren't usually the
06:30 most humorous situations.
06:32 "Maybe we'll just run a couple of tests just to be safe."
06:34 "What kind of tests?"
06:35 "If there's anything wrong, I'll give you a call."
06:37 However, on sitcoms, every situation has the potential to lead to laughter,
06:43 and Phil Dunphy's bend-over moment with his doctor in season 3 was no exception.
06:48 "So how's the real estate market doing?"
06:50 "Well, interest rates are low, so it's a great time to be a buyer, but if you're a seller,
06:55 you really have to..."
06:56 "Bend over?"
06:57 "True, but equality property is still..."
06:58 "No, no, I need you to bend over."
07:00 But as funny as his line about dimming the lights and playing some Nora Jones is,
07:06 the doctor's line in the outtake about the mints was even funnier.
07:11 "What is that?"
07:11 "It's my finger."
07:13 "No, no, no, the stuff in the jar."
07:14 "Oh, mints. For after."
07:17 We don't know why the line didn't make it into the show.
07:24 Maybe they just couldn't get a take without everyone cracking up.
07:28 Number 3 - Three Different Hair Dryers
07:33 With this outtake, it isn't so much Jesse Tyler Ferguson's
07:37 inability to get the line out properly that breaks everyone.
07:40 It's Eric Stonestreet's witty retort when Ferguson just can't get it.
07:46 "Maybe we're pioneers."
07:47 "Oh, we're not pioneers. We have three hair dryers for three different types of...
07:50 I'm sorry, what is it?"
07:51 Granted, the line he is having trouble with is a bit of a tongue twister,
07:55 but Stonestreet's friendly jab at him is pretty great.
08:00 "Been there. I mean, with much harder lines, but I've been there."
08:03 "Shut up."
08:04 And it's evidence of just how close they all are that they can take
08:08 little verbal jabs at each other like that.
08:11 Ferguson even follows it up with a funny, self-deprecating line
08:16 about how this is why he wasn't nominated for an Emmy Award.
08:20 "It's why I didn't get nominated. It's really clear.
08:24 I mean, I can only blame myself at this point."
08:28 Number 2 - Booker Bell
08:30 Booker Bell might not be an inherently funny name,
08:33 but say it over and over again and some folks might just crack up.
08:38 "Oh, is this that meeting with the DJ with the funny name?"
08:41 "Booker Bell."
08:41 "Booker Bell."
08:42 "Booker Bell."
08:43 "Everybody now."
08:44 "Booker Bell was only the greatest DJ in the history of drive time radio."
08:48 At least that's what happened to Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
08:51 Ed O'Neill is working hard to get his line out properly,
08:54 but after he messes up the first try,
08:57 Ferguson can't hold it together long enough to let him get it right.
09:01 "Booker Bell was only the greatest DJ in the history of drive time radio."
09:09 "Booker Bell."
09:10 "Sorry."
09:11 "You jerk off."
09:13 So O'Neill just keeps going, throwing the line at him again and again.
09:19 But at this point, Ferguson is too far gone and has to beg O'Neill to stop saying the name
09:26 and cracking up the rest of the cast in this scene along with him.

09:51 Number 1. Knick Knacks
09:53 From Doggy Dog World to Baby Cheeses,
09:56 modern family fans have gotten plenty of laughs throughout the series
10:01 from various Gloria mispronunciations.
10:04 "What the hell is this?"
10:05 "I told you, Jay. I called your secretary and told her to order you a box of baby cheeses."
10:09 "Oh, so now that is my fault too."
10:15 And so have the cast and crew, including Sofia Vergara herself.
10:20 There are many mispronunciation outtake examples throughout the run of the show,
10:25 but the best one has got to be the one with the knickknacks.
10:29 Vergara walks into the scene asking where to put a box of knickknacks.
10:34 "Where should I put this box of knickknacks?"
10:36 "Oh, you're donating some knickknacks?"
10:40 And at first, it looks like they're going to get through the scene no problem.
10:44 But when Bowen turns around towards her, she loses it.
10:49 In the next take, Vergara goes even harder on the mispronunciation,
10:54 and Bowen is down for the counts.
10:56 "Where should I put this box of knick-knackers?"
10:59 Which modern family blooper has you breaking every single time you see it?
11:07 Let us know in the comments.
11:09 "Sorry, I forgot to say my line. I was waiting on you."
