00:00:40 Welcome in to a brand new edition of the Believe in Carolina Panthers Podcast.
00:00:46 I'm your host, Desmond Johnson, joined by the Panthers' all-time lead in rusher, Jonathan
00:00:49 Stewart.
00:00:50 I don't know if y'all know, but today is National Signing Day.
00:00:53 And Skylar Callahan, besides what he does for us here at Believe in Panthers, he also
00:00:57 is a Sports Illustrated beat writer for West Virginia, as well as the Charlotte Hornets
00:01:02 and the Carolina Panthers.
00:01:03 So huge day for him.
00:01:04 So he couldn't be here.
00:01:05 He's in the middle of dude signing and moving the portal and all that kind of stuff for
00:01:08 West Virginia.
00:01:09 So he couldn't be with us today.
00:01:10 Glad you guys can be with us.
00:01:12 I saw when I logged in, there was some people already waiting in the room for us.
00:01:16 I got to apologize.
00:01:17 We, all three of us have holiday stuff going on, other things happening, where it was a
00:01:21 little bit harder to coordinate it this week to get you a new episode.
00:01:24 But of course, you knew it was going to come through in the clutch.
00:01:26 And we're glad you're here with us today.
00:01:29 Loaded show today.
00:01:30 As a matter of fact, Stu's bright spots from Sunday, Carolina Panthers, nine, seven winners
00:01:33 over the Atlanta Falcons to move to two and 12 in the season.
00:01:36 More importantly, possibly ruining Atlanta's chances to get into the playoffs.
00:01:40 So we'll get into Stu's bright spots for that.
00:01:43 Bryce Young's drive to win the game as Bryce Young finally arrived.
00:01:46 I've been on record the past couple of weeks saying that I needed to see some kind of number
00:01:50 one pick type moment from Bryce.
00:01:52 Did we see that Sunday in that final drive?
00:01:54 17 play masterpiece going 90 yards on the field to set up the winning score.
00:01:59 So we'll talk about that.
00:02:01 We need to, we finally need to sit down and talk about a zero Evaro's defense.
00:02:05 I don't understand how this is possible, but we're two and 12 and we have the third ranked
00:02:09 defense and yards allowed in the whole NFL and we're third and past defense.
00:02:15 I'm just like, how's this even possible?
00:02:17 So we'll talk about that and what does that maybe mean for Evaro possibly in the future
00:02:21 with the Panthers and then our boy Cam Newton.
00:02:25 Cam Newton was all news last week.
00:02:26 It was after we taped, so we didn't get a chance to really discuss any of it, but I
00:02:30 want to get into his game manager, game changer comments and a little bit about what he was
00:02:35 talking on fourth and one on his part about wanting to be team president of the Carolina
00:02:40 Panthers.
00:02:41 And I want to go more into why that wouldn't make sense because I've had fears of us losing
00:02:46 our identity over the next couple of years with the way the personnel, everything's been
00:02:50 going on, but we're getting all of that and more.
00:02:52 It's open mailbag.
00:02:53 Uh, all the guys that are already in here again, we appreciate you guys stopping by.
00:02:58 Um, you can drop your stuff in here.
00:03:00 Uh, like Dallin, uh, I know you all have thought about this, but I know you all have already
00:03:04 thought about this, but I can't stop thinking about what a Bryce had Christian and DJ.
00:03:07 Uh, see Mac is on an MVP campaign right now.
00:03:10 Uh, and services going to do is killing it.
00:03:12 Um, and we all kind of knew that was his thing.
00:03:16 And I mean, I mean, we can't change the past now.
00:03:18 He ain't here now.
00:03:19 Um, so hopefully lesson learned, uh, with him not being here and San Francisco, probably
00:03:24 the best team in the NFL before I turn it over to Stu and his bright spots from Sunday.
00:03:28 Quick word from our friends over at bet online.

00:03:45 Remember to use the promo code, believe BLEAV to receive your 50% welcome bonus on your
00:03:49 first deposit online where the game starts and where we start typically is the box score,
00:03:55 but it's Wednesday, so we won't spend a whole lot of time on the Falcons game, but nine,
00:04:00 seven winners, no, no touchdowns.
00:04:01 So it's three field goals.
00:04:03 The defense played lights out.
00:04:04 Uh, Stu, uh, we started a new segment last week.
00:04:07 Stu's bright spots.
00:04:08 Stu, would you, uh, would you take away from the Panthers non seven win versus Atlanta?
00:04:12 Well, I mean, you hit it on right on the nail with the defense out the gate, right?
00:04:18 I mean, we want to talk about bright spots or any type of, you know, uh, positive indicators
00:04:27 that Carolina Pampas are headed in a good direction.
00:04:33 Um, the defense, I mean, they've been solid all year.
00:04:36 Uh, not really have got, they haven't gotten any help from the offense, um, majority of
00:04:43 the year.
00:04:44 Um, you know, but, you know, I think, you know, you can hang your hat on the fact that
00:04:49 you Rose got that defense, you know, locked in, um, their depth, you know, they've been
00:04:55 injured throughout the year, just like the offensive, offensive school guys and offensive
00:05:01 line has had their issues, um, throughout the year.
00:05:05 But for whatever reason, you know, that defense, man, um, you know, they, they figured out
00:05:10 how to play together within a new scheme, um, which is really tough to do.
00:05:15 Um, going from four, three to three, four, you guys, you got guys on that team, um, that
00:05:20 might not, you know, on paper fit, you know, uh, three, four scheme.
00:05:27 Um, but they were really well coached.
00:05:31 So, um, there's a lot to say to that.
00:05:34 There's a lot to say to that.
00:05:37 So I would take that as a bright spot, but Eddie Pinero, man, thank you.
00:05:45 Well done.
00:05:46 Yeah.
00:05:47 You don't understand.
00:05:48 I was a downpour.
00:05:49 Like they were playing in a nor'easter, like, yes, this is not, this is not kicking indoor.
00:05:54 This is not kicking in September.
00:05:57 This is cold weather, December football.
00:06:03 And to be able to, you know, lock in, you know, and make those, uh, those kicks, I mean,
00:06:10 that's a clutch player right there.
00:06:12 And that's exactly what you want.
00:06:14 You know, he's at his, cause he's right now performing at the top of his position right
00:06:19 now, you know, making clutch kicks like that.
00:06:23 You don't have teams that have kickers that will do that.
00:06:28 And he did it for us in a time and need.
00:06:33 But then the obvious, my favorite, Chuba Hubbard, he's a dog.
00:06:38 He's doing his thing.
00:06:39 He's been a dog.
00:06:40 Yeah.
00:06:41 And, and, you know, shout out to him, you know, making the most of his opportunities
00:06:45 and making a statement, uh, really, you know, making a case, you know, for, you know, setting
00:06:51 himself up for next year, as far as being the talk of, you know, one of the top tier
00:06:56 running backs, um, you know, finishing, you know, in December is what a running back dreams
00:07:02 of doing, you know, November, late November, December, forgetting to the playoffs, like
00:07:09 playoffs, like that's when your team is going to depend on that position.
00:07:15 And that's what he's going to do most, um, the weather, the elements, if you can move
00:07:19 the chains, um, and keep the momentum going on the offensive side of the ball and keeping
00:07:24 the defense on the sideline, getting them rested up because it's been a lot of banging,
00:07:29 throwing their bodies around throughout the whole year, give them an opportunity to get
00:07:33 some rest and create some longevity, um, you know, for their, you know, their end of the
00:07:41 season, I mean, especially you got one more game added to the regular season.
00:07:45 Um, it's huge.
00:07:47 So Chuba, man, shout out to you.
00:07:51 You're the bright spot you have been all year.
00:07:55 So thank you.
00:07:56 Before we go into, uh, first 80 Pinero, cause I was just thinking about this, how it's funny
00:08:01 how things kind of come full circle.
00:08:03 Cause remember last year, that Atlanta game, he missed that.
00:08:06 He missed the, uh, the extra point first.
00:08:08 And then he missed the field, the extra point cause he got pushed out because of the penalty.
00:08:11 He missed that member.
00:08:12 And then he missed an overtime, I believe, uh, and Atlanta ended up winning the game
00:08:16 for it to come back full circle of almost a calendar year later for him to kick a field
00:08:20 goal to win it against Atlanta and possibly push them out of playoff contention.
00:08:25 That's gotta, that's gotta feel some sort of good.
00:08:27 Yeah, definitely, man.
00:08:28 You always want to, you always want to hear those stories where a guy, you know, rises
00:08:33 above, um, you know, the circumstances like that.
00:08:37 And, you know, it says a lot about the, you know, the special teams coach right now that
00:08:41 has taken over the head coaching role, you know, his understanding and his belief in
00:08:46 special teams, um, and putting, you know, you know, the, the game in the hand of, you
00:08:54 know, Eddie to come through in the clutch like that is huge.
00:08:57 I, you know, I'm glad you mentioned that too, cause there was a, uh, I think it was first
00:09:02 quarter into the first quarter.
00:09:04 He called a timeout cause they were getting ready to punt and they were about to switch
00:09:08 side, switch field or whatever.
00:09:10 And the wind was blowing a certain way.
00:09:12 So he called timeout right before the quarter ended so that they could punt with the wind
00:09:16 as opposed to going into the commercial break, switching it and then punting into the wind.
00:09:20 And I was sitting and watching on TV.
00:09:22 And at first I'm like, why is he calling a timeout?
00:09:24 And it literally took me like 30 seconds.
00:09:26 Like, Oh, Oh, okay.
00:09:29 That that's a, that's a game management, right?
00:09:31 That's game management.
00:09:32 That's good stuff.
00:09:33 I saw that.
00:09:34 I was like, okay.
00:09:35 As a, as a, as a coach, you know, as a head coach, those are the things that you can control,
00:09:39 right?
00:09:40 Right.
00:09:41 You can control, you can control, you know, putting your team in the best position to
00:09:45 win, which was field position the whole game.
00:09:49 Right.
00:09:50 How do we begin in position to score?
00:09:54 And for our scores, yeah.
00:09:55 You know, fans would love to see touchdowns.
00:09:58 I mean, the Carolina Panthers locker room would love to see touchdowns, but in a game
00:10:04 like that, where the elements are so strong and you're, you know, you're struggling, you
00:10:10 had a year of struggle and it's a division opponent.
00:10:14 Not just an opponent, but I mean, a rival, I mean, at the end of the day, Buccaneers,
00:10:19 Falcon saints, they're all rivals if you ask me, but yeah, I don't know if we have one
00:10:25 or two, but you gotta, you gotta get, you gotta get what you can, you know, can take.
00:10:30 And that's exactly kind of how we played that game.
00:10:32 And so kudos to him for, for being thorough with his his game management.
00:10:41 Shout out to the fans too, that came to the stadium to watch that game.
00:10:45 Cause we, we kind of got drug last week on social media, the whole tickets, 45 cent and
00:10:50 all that kind of, I don't even know if that's even accurate or not, but I know they were
00:10:53 as low as the resales were as low as five, $10 for some of the spot.
00:10:56 I did see that, but again, there was a Nor'easter on top of us.
00:11:00 The team's one in 12, like there's an interim head coach in place.
00:11:03 I get it.
00:11:04 But for people to just be like, ah, the Panthers can't even sell tickets and blah, blah, blah
00:11:08 for the fans that did come and did watch that game and got rewarded with a win.
00:11:12 I have a buddy who I went to high school with and graduated with.
00:11:16 And he was posting on Facebook that he, because of the prices were so low, he took his two
00:11:19 little boys to the game for their first ever Carolina Panthers game live.
00:11:23 And he was, he posted at the end of it.
00:11:25 They're sitting there and their first picture, they're kind of like, ah, what are we doing?
00:11:28 Cause we sitting in the rain last picture.
00:11:30 They're all excited.
00:11:31 Cause that team won.
00:11:32 And it's just an experience that they'll remember forever.
00:11:34 And a lot of people, because of the weather, they're going to remember that game more than
00:11:37 they would have it was sunny and 65 degrees outside.
00:11:40 So shout out to the fans, man.
00:11:42 Y'all, we, we still got a lot of heartbeat.
00:11:45 You guys are creating core memories.
00:11:46 Yeah, let's go into the locker room right after the game.
00:11:51 Here's special team interim head coach, Chris Tabor rallying the troops.
00:11:57 You won the game.
00:11:58 Defense unbelievable.
00:11:59 Two turnovers.
00:12:00 Hey, Hey, here's the deal.
00:12:01 The other thing is this guys offensively kept chopping wood, kept chopping wood boys.
00:12:12 Great job.
00:12:13 Proud of you right there.
00:12:14 Special teams moving the ball, pinning them down there, making our kicks.
00:12:18 That's a team win.
00:12:19 There we go.
00:12:20 Let's call it up.
00:12:21 Hey guys, keep sticking together.
00:12:22 All right.
00:12:23 I love all of you.
00:12:24 I'm proud of you.
00:12:25 Family on three, one, two, three.
00:12:31 He did miss an opportunity to say keep pounding.
00:12:33 I don't know why he said keep chopping or whatever he said, but he could have.
00:12:37 It's from the book.
00:12:40 You ever read the book?
00:12:41 Chop, chopper, wood, carry water.
00:12:44 Yeah.
00:12:45 Yeah.
00:12:46 Yeah.
00:12:47 Yeah.
00:12:48 Give me some.
00:12:49 That's what he's referring to.
00:12:50 You know, I mean, you got to continue to do the, you know, the, the little things, the
00:12:58 little things and eventually, you know, you'll reap your reward.
00:13:03 And it felt good to, as you look around that locker room, it felt like everyone's still
00:13:08 pretty much engaged.
00:13:09 Like it feels like everybody wanted this win and they worked for it.
00:13:13 Like there's still something to say about, yeah, okay.
00:13:15 They're out of playoff contention.
00:13:16 They can't win the division, yada, yada, yada.
00:13:19 But there's still some, some moments they can have here this year to build.
00:13:24 This is what people, you know, it kind of like, I let kind of the talk of should they
00:13:29 sit Bryce young and all this talk, you know, you know, the last several weeks.
00:13:36 But these are the reasons why you, you have your rookie quarterback finish out the season.
00:13:42 So he can live through these opportunities to get better and to grow with your team.
00:13:49 Because at the end of the day, like not a lot of those guys are going to be back next
00:13:52 year, but majority of the guys are going to be there next year.
00:13:55 And so this is an opportunity for them to build chemistry, to fight for a win and to
00:14:03 feel what it feels like to scrap and do all you can in a messy situation and come out
00:14:13 victorious because at the end of the day, yeah, they won two games this year so far,
00:14:17 but a win is a win.
00:14:18 And it feels good.
00:14:19 I saw somebody posted on Instagram.
00:14:23 I'm not going to call them out completely, but they were like, I wish they would have
00:14:26 let Bryce run it in for a touchdown or throw a touchdown at the end.
00:14:29 That whole thing was calculated that entire drive.
00:14:31 Like literally by the time they got down there, they knew what they were going to do.
00:14:34 They downed it.
00:14:35 They knew their kick field goal walk off in the game.
00:14:38 Like you said, a win is a win.
00:14:39 I don't care if Bryce was a touchdown at the end or the kick field goal or whatever.
00:14:44 He sounded like a fantasy football or something.
00:14:46 Yeah.
00:14:47 It was like, come on, man.
00:14:48 Like, what does it matter?
00:14:49 Like we're one in 12.
00:14:50 You're sort of complaining about us not going to score a touchdown to win.
00:14:54 Like it's going to help Bryce.
00:14:55 If anything, Bryce sounded happy that, uh, that, that they got the win and the method
00:15:00 they did it and he sounded relieved to be honest at the podium.
00:15:03 And I do, I have switched back to let them play out the season.
00:15:06 I was on the whole, maybe we should sit them a bit.
00:15:08 It was you that was saying that?
00:15:10 Yeah, I was one of them.
00:15:12 Yeah.
00:15:13 I was one of them.
00:15:14 I almost did the same with Skyler too.
00:15:15 I was like, come on, come over here with me.
00:15:16 But what you just said, especially kind of convinced me that you're right.
00:15:19 You know, if he's sitting, he, he needs to know what it feels like to win in the NFL.
00:15:26 He needs to know what it feels like to ruin other teams' chances in the NFL.
00:15:29 Yeah, it feels good to just, and it's your division opponent, like next year, they're
00:15:35 going to remember this game.
00:15:37 You're creating core memories.
00:15:39 Yeah.
00:15:40 You need that.
00:15:41 You know, you need that.
00:15:42 It's like iron sharpens iron.
00:15:43 And I do feel like that, uh, that, that kind of came into play.
00:15:47 Here's a Bryce at the podium, uh, Sunday, right after the win, where you can kind of
00:15:52 tell that, you know, my guy's super excited about, uh, notching a first win, uh, or his
00:15:58 second win of his, uh, rookie season.
00:16:00 Seven and a half minutes ago, ball on your five.
00:16:02 What are you guys saying to each other in that moment?
00:16:05 Oh, I mean, where else would you rather be?
00:16:07 You know, um, opportunity to go down and, and win the game.
00:16:11 Um, you know, for me, there's, there's no other group I'd rather do it with.
00:16:14 Um, you know, we all have faith in each other.
00:16:16 We all believe in each other and, you know, it, it, it was just a great opportunity.
00:16:20 So I'm just in the huddle of being able to look at each other.
00:16:23 We all, that all had the same look in each other's eyes.
00:16:25 We all had confidence and, you know, we were able to put together.
00:16:28 So, uh, you know, credit goes to, to, to my teammates, to everyone and to, to TB and coach
00:16:33 Tabor for managing everything.
00:16:35 I love the fact that, um, right there, just sit.
00:16:38 Yeah.
00:16:39 That, that right there, if people would actually dial in and listen to the words that he just
00:16:44 said, like you're watching, you're watching a team come together.
00:16:50 You're watching a team.
00:16:51 You're watching culture, like come together as well.
00:16:55 Like a winning culture.
00:16:58 Like if you look at some of these like teams that, you know, look at some of the greatest
00:17:03 teams like that has ever been, you know, like in the national football league, you look
00:17:09 at their schedules and you look at their wins.
00:17:12 A lot of their wins aren't blowouts.
00:17:14 A lot of them, you know what I'm saying?
00:17:18 Some of those wins are like, man, why they only, why they only went by two against the
00:17:23 Cleveland Browns or whatever.
00:17:24 You know what I'm saying?
00:17:25 Like it's because it was a scrappy game.
00:17:27 It was one of those games where the other team showed up to, it's just so happens that
00:17:35 you have a little bit more grit.
00:17:37 You know, the guy that's in that huddle, you are looking at that guy in, in his eyes while
00:17:43 he's sweating, while he's exhausted.
00:17:45 And you're saying to yourself, man, I'm going to pull through for that guy.
00:17:49 I'm pulling through for all of these guys.
00:17:51 And so his, that, that moment of him explaining what it's like in the huddle, I know that,
00:17:56 that feeling all too well, you know, where it's, you know, man, we're, we're, we got
00:18:02 a chance, like where else would we want to be right now?
00:18:05 It's on us.
00:18:06 It's on us.
00:18:07 It's on us.
00:18:08 We need to determine the end of this game.
00:18:09 Yeah.
00:18:10 And that was the buildup to something special, I believe in the Carolina Panthers and, you
00:18:16 know, a rainy game like that, you know, the, the controversy of fans showing up, the controversy
00:18:23 of the year as a whole coaching controversy, all of it.
00:18:28 But they are in the huddle in that moment.
00:18:31 Where else would you want to be?
00:18:34 This is where I want to be.
00:18:36 That's good stuff.
00:18:37 And that's good perspective.
00:18:38 And that's good growth.
00:18:39 And what I really expect for the rest of the season is we might win the rest of our games.
00:18:45 It's funny how it switches so quick too.
00:18:47 We were near the same spot last week.
00:18:49 Like, I don't know if there's a game we can win on the schedule.
00:18:51 All it took, we didn't even score a touchdown.
00:18:54 All it took was just to have that victory feeling to be like, you know what?
00:18:58 Our division really ain't all that.
00:19:00 And like, they're all struggling.
00:19:01 Like nobody wants to win the division.
00:19:03 I guess the Saints kind of do, but the rest of them.
00:19:07 It's New Year's Eve.
00:19:08 It's a home game.
00:19:09 Green Bay's got to travel.
00:19:11 They're not going to really want to be here.
00:19:12 They're up and down.
00:19:13 They're with their family at the house.
00:19:14 And they're coming to play the Carolina Panthers.
00:19:19 I mean, shoot, it's going to be sunny.
00:19:21 It's going to be cold.
00:19:23 We can disrupt the NFC playoff picture.
00:19:25 Like literally, we can disrupt the NFL.
00:19:28 Be disruptors.
00:19:29 Be that little brother in the division right now.
00:19:33 He's ruining your night.
00:19:35 Yeah.
00:19:36 Go home.
00:19:37 I'm looking for you.
00:19:38 Why are you here?
00:19:39 My girlfriend's over here.
00:19:40 Why are you in here?
00:19:41 She likes me too.
00:19:42 Watch this.
00:19:43 Watch my cartwheel.
00:19:44 Woo!
00:19:45 We got to talk.
00:19:46 So that actually is a good segue into Bryce Young because we've all been questioning Bryce
00:19:56 Young and was it the right pick?
00:19:59 Did we give up too much?
00:20:00 And all these things.
00:20:01 We've been kind of waiting for a moment from Bryce to kind of happen.
00:20:04 And I think it finally happened Sunday on that last drive.
00:20:07 And I'm seeing lots of folks kind of mentioning that in here.
00:20:10 That last drive was a great experience for Bryce.
00:20:13 Playing Bryce is going to pay tremendous dividends.
00:20:15 Learn how to win at the end of the game.
00:20:17 And just game situations and the emotion.
00:20:21 I saw emotion from Chuba Hubbard, Tommy Tribble, Bryce.
00:20:25 That scrambling that he had to keep the play alive.
00:20:28 DJ Chalk with that toe tap catch on the sideline that kept the drive going.
00:20:34 I mean, they just...
00:20:35 Let's talk about that catch right there.
00:20:37 Yeah.
00:20:38 Because I was like, "Yo."
00:20:39 I read something about the probability of that throw and catch.
00:20:44 Like...
00:20:45 In the ring.
00:20:46 It was like 4% or something like that.
00:20:50 So at the end of the day, Bryce is a 4%.
00:20:54 He is one of the 4% that will ever be able to do that throw.
00:20:57 That's what we need to see.
00:20:58 We need to see that.
00:20:59 Yeah.
00:21:00 That's why you got to grab the number one.
00:21:01 And we need to see that.
00:21:03 And clearly Chalk needs to see that too.
00:21:05 And we think about this.
00:21:06 One of the things I kind of felt bad about last week coming off their loss last week.
00:21:13 The receivers dropping balls and whatnot.
00:21:17 But we got to remember, they didn't really have that many opportunities either.
00:21:22 If you think about it.
00:21:23 That's true.
00:21:24 Sometimes the ball don't get there.
00:21:25 Yeah.
00:21:26 Clean, clear opportunities.
00:21:27 Yeah.
00:21:28 We've had passing downs.
00:21:31 But a lot of those have been thrown away.
00:21:34 At the ground.
00:21:35 Guys not open.
00:21:37 So actual catchable balls.
00:21:40 We haven't had those many opportunities.
00:21:42 No fault to Bryce on the catchable balls or anything like that.
00:21:46 It's just defense is being prepared for what we've been doing all along the season.
00:21:55 Becoming a little bit one dimensional in our scheme.
00:22:02 But I believe the running game has opened up a lot for that offense.
00:22:07 And I think if we could just continue to run Chuba until the wheels fall off.
00:22:14 Then they'll have some success.
00:22:18 It was good seeing Shark.
00:22:19 It was good seeing D'Andre involved.
00:22:21 I love how they've got Bryce under center more.
00:22:24 As each week has gone by, he's been more and more under center.
00:22:26 Because I thought he's got to learn how to do that better and more effectively.
00:22:29 Which it feels like he has.
00:22:31 That's helped the run game.
00:22:32 Which has helped his passing game.
00:22:33 That was probably the cleanest pocket he's had all year.
00:22:36 In terms of control and having some time.
00:22:40 And he started slicing and dicing a little bit.
00:22:41 He started cooking that drive in particular.
00:22:44 And people noticed it.
00:22:45 Here's a quick question from Mark Burks.
00:22:47 Y'all think Frank might have had Bryce's demeanor too passive?
00:22:50 I feel like since Frank left, B-Y is starting to wake up a little bit now.
00:22:54 Or is that just Rose colored lenses?
00:22:56 I don't know if so much Frank leaning into Bryce being passive.
00:23:05 It started to feel more like Frank didn't really want to tinker with Bryce's mechanics
00:23:08 or what he did.
00:23:09 He just wanted to get through the season.
00:23:11 And then in the offseason, I think he felt like he'd be able to sit down and work on
00:23:15 some things like the climb in the pocket stuff that we were on last week and all that kind
00:23:18 of stuff.
00:23:19 Because they didn't really try to correct anything Bryce was doing from preseason until
00:23:24 Frank got let go.
00:23:25 Really in hindsight, he was pretty much playing the same type of offense.
00:23:29 There was no growth.
00:23:30 They didn't really add things to it.
00:23:32 They were just trying to run the same stuff.
00:23:33 So he kind of looked stagnant and nothing was working.
00:23:36 Now with the run game finally getting introduced.
00:23:39 This man right here has been hopping on for like six, seven weeks that they needed to
00:23:43 start running this football behind Chuba.
00:23:45 They finally started doing it.
00:23:47 They're actually running some zone gap.
00:23:49 It looks like a little bit for the run, which is what the line was good at.
00:23:55 It's all these things we all knew coming in that they're good at these things and they
00:23:58 just decided not to do them until the last month of the season.
00:24:01 It's crazy to me.
00:24:03 But that might have been the moment when we look back on this year, that last drive for
00:24:08 Bryce to get the office down the field in the weather conditions they were in.
00:24:12 He's a four percenter.
00:24:13 He's a four percenter.
00:24:14 And that's actually good because you're halfway in the league.
00:24:21 He, on that day, was the only person to make those throws in the rain and the elements.
00:24:28 How many people do you think in the NFL could make a throw like that?
00:24:31 Six, seven maybe?
00:24:34 Like that?
00:24:35 I mean, it's got to be in one spot, in a downpour.
00:24:37 I don't know.
00:24:38 35 yards down the field?
00:24:42 Like the probability of someone making a four percent, I would say Mahomes.
00:24:48 I would say Joe Burrow.
00:24:52 Maybe Josh Allen?
00:24:53 Yeah, I've seen Josh Allen make some crazy throws.
00:24:56 I think he probably could.
00:24:59 Especially up there because they deal with a lot of weather.
00:25:00 Yeah, snow and wind and stuff.
00:25:02 Yeah, he probably could throw that.
00:25:04 Aaron Rodgers.
00:25:05 Aaron Rodgers.
00:25:06 Aaron Rodgers is off the…
00:25:08 Yo, we almost got an Aaron Rodgers site.
00:25:11 Yeah, right?
00:25:12 You said you had this injury.
00:25:13 What are you feeling when you're watching these updates with Aaron Rodgers and you're
00:25:16 looking at your watch and you're like, "It's December.
00:25:19 How is this dude doing this in four months?"
00:25:21 How is he back already?
00:25:22 How is he taking reps?
00:25:24 I mean, the surgeries now, man.
00:25:27 The advancements that have taken place in the medical field.
00:25:30 I mean, it's no surprise at this point.
00:25:34 I mean, God bless him, but it seems like the New York Jets are out of the playoffs, so
00:25:39 I'm not really sure.
00:25:40 Yeah, they're 5-10.
00:25:41 Not 5-10.
00:25:42 They're 5-9 or whatever it is.
00:25:43 I don't know if they're going to really put him out there for GM pleasure.
00:25:50 Look, I think Aaron Rodgers is joking.
00:25:55 I think he's just trying to be nice.
00:25:56 He saw that line.
00:25:57 He saw that offensive line, yo.
00:25:58 I ain't trying to do that again.
00:25:59 Let's go into offseason.
00:26:00 Let's get this thing built up a little bit.
00:26:03 With the breath chug, I think most of the time.
00:26:07 He had three sacks this past week.
00:26:09 I was just like, "Oh my gosh."
00:26:10 Aaron Rodgers, I think he got hurt in the second play.
00:26:11 How about the Seattle Seahawks, bro?
00:26:12 Dude.
00:26:13 You remember who was that?
00:26:14 Yeah.
00:26:15 You remember the artificial super bowl?
00:26:16 We had a super bowl.
00:26:17 I had a bet running the super bowl.
00:26:18 We looked at that bracket like we were like, "How did we do this?
00:26:19 How did this even happen?"
00:26:20 And now, we're like, "Oh, man.
00:26:21 I'm going to have to do this."
00:26:22 I'm like, "Oh, man.
00:26:23 I'm going to have to do this."
00:26:24 I'm like, "Oh, man.
00:26:25 I'm going to have to do this."
00:26:26 I'm like, "Oh, man.
00:26:27 I'm going to have to do this."
00:26:28 I'm like, "Oh, man.
00:26:29 I'm going to have to do this."
00:26:30 I'm like, "Oh, man.
00:26:31 I'm going to have to do this."
00:26:32 I'm like, "Oh, man.
00:26:33 I'm going to have to do this."
00:26:34 I'm like, "Oh, man.
00:26:35 I'm going to have to do this."
00:26:36 I'm like, "Oh, man.
00:26:37 I'm going to have to do this."
00:26:38 I'm like, "Oh, man.
00:26:39 I'm going to have to do this."
00:26:40 I'm like, "Oh, man.
00:26:41 I'm going to have to do this."
00:26:42 I'm like, "Oh, man.
00:26:43 I'm going to have to do this."
00:26:44 I'm like, "Oh, man.
00:26:45 I'm going to have to do this."
00:26:47 Unfortunately, they have the San Francisco 49ers in their division, and the 49ers look
00:26:51 like the class of ... What are you supposed to do?
00:26:55 What are you supposed to do?
00:26:56 Listen, Chris McCaffrey is running on all cylinders right now.
00:27:00 I mean, he just surpassed Jerry Rice, Hall of Famer, in touchdowns.
00:27:06 Come on, bro.
00:27:09 It's crazy to watch.
00:27:15 He's the best in the business.
00:27:17 No question about it.
00:27:19 The best in the business.
00:27:20 Everybody talking about Purdy.
00:27:22 Look, Purdy is really good, but Christian McCaffrey is him.
00:27:28 He really is.
00:27:29 He's the best.
00:27:30 I think he might be the best player in the NFL today.
00:27:33 The very best player in the NFL.
00:27:34 Number one on the NFL 100 thing they do at the beginning of the year.
00:27:37 I think it's him.
00:27:38 Numero uno.
00:27:39 If he keeps on doing this, he a first ballot.
00:27:42 Oh, gosh, yeah.
00:27:43 I mean, if he gets another thousand thousand season, I don't know if he'll be able to get
00:27:47 there this year.
00:27:48 I was looking at his stats.
00:27:49 I think he's still ... I don't know.
00:27:51 He's got three games left.
00:27:52 We'll see what they do with him.
00:27:53 If he gets another thousand thousand season in the next year or two to go with the one
00:27:57 he had here, he'd be the only person in history to do it twice.
00:28:00 Only one in history.
00:28:01 I think he can.
00:28:02 I think he easily- He might already be in that conversation.
00:28:07 He might be.
00:28:08 I already looked at him like a Marshall Falk type.
00:28:10 He just hasn't had the hardware yet.
00:28:14 Once you put a ring on his finger, the perception of the talk about him is going to completely
00:28:18 change.
00:28:19 They're going to start talking all the time with him.
00:28:22 That's a perfect segue over to the part of the show that we're going to have with Cam
00:28:26 Newton and his comments from last week.
00:28:28 I didn't even pull this clip.
00:28:29 He was talking about C-Mac on the same show.
00:28:34 We talked about this actually about two weeks prior on the show about going back in the
00:28:37 timeline.
00:28:38 What would you change?
00:28:39 I asked him the question and he was like, "I'll even go back further than where they
00:28:43 did.
00:28:44 I would have never traded C-Mac."
00:28:45 He was like, "Bro, they didn't know how to use him."
00:28:49 He was practicing every day and then getting 40 touches or whatever in a game.
00:28:54 Which is insane.
00:28:55 They wouldn't sit him.
00:28:56 Yeah, they would never.
00:28:57 Granted, he wanted to practice.
00:28:58 They should have sat him on Wednesdays in bed or whatever.
00:29:00 Listen, when you got a beast back there, you're supposed to control him.
00:29:04 You're supposed to say, "Hey, look.
00:29:06 I know you want to be out there, but we want to make sure we tranquilize you for a second
00:29:11 so that we can protect you."
00:29:16 It's hard because you have a player that's that great and he's wanting to do certain
00:29:24 things a certain way.
00:29:25 His preparation is so on point and so fascinating at the end of the day.
00:29:31 At the running back position, the way he prepares, you don't want to touch it and you're afraid
00:29:37 to touch it.
00:29:39 But as a coach, your job is to manage your players and delegate your roster.
00:29:50 Cam was on that team with him where he was going off and he witnessed it firsthand.
00:29:58 2018, I think it was.
00:30:00 The 2018 season.
00:30:01 Yeah.
00:30:02 It felt like when we had him.
00:30:03 If it's something that Cam's seeing, like, "Wait a minute," because I remember when I
00:30:09 played, if I had my ankles sore, I was not practicing.
00:30:14 Yeah.
00:30:15 I was like, "Hey, coach.
00:30:17 Coach, listen.
00:30:19 My feet ain't got it.
00:30:22 If you want me to eat on Sunday, these feet have to rest."
00:30:27 McCaffrey, bless his heart, never really did that from all accounts and started having
00:30:31 some lower leg injuries.
00:30:33 And too, I think it's a little bit of like, yeah, Christian might have wanted to be out
00:30:38 there at practice.
00:30:40 But at the end of the day, as a player, I'm pretty sure he would have taken a bone.
00:30:45 He would have taken bones.
00:30:47 And so I fault the decision to not give him a bone or force him a bone.
00:30:56 Like here, take it.
00:30:58 Every day this week.
00:31:00 So, oh, Mark Burks is saying, "Hey, y'all do a really good job keeping the fan base
00:31:06 informed.
00:31:07 I feel like every time I disagree with any of y'all, I get proven wrong and I'm here
00:31:10 for it.
00:31:11 Thank y'all."
00:31:12 Hey, man, we appreciate you stopping by Believe in Panthers podcast.
00:31:14 It's been a hard year, but we've tried to keep the content light.
00:31:17 We've tried to keep it interesting for everybody that comes through and we try to make it interactive
00:31:21 so you guys can blow off some steam or give your opinions or whatever it may be.
00:31:25 So we do appreciate everybody stopping by to watch and everything.
00:31:29 Again, Stu with the segues today, because you just kind of lead me along into these
00:31:33 different segments, because that goes straight to Cam Newton.
00:31:37 And I really wanted to have a conversation about his comments from last week about game
00:31:42 manager versus game changer, because on one hand, we all know Cam Newton was a game changer.
00:31:48 Like that.
00:31:49 If there's anybody out there that could actually speak on this, it would be him.
00:31:53 You know, he knows what it's like to be a game changer.
00:31:56 And number two, game manager is not a bad thing to be.
00:32:02 It's not a bad thing to be.
00:32:03 It's a great thing to be.
00:32:04 Tom Brady was the game manager.
00:32:05 Yeah, Tom Brady was the greatest game manager of all time.
00:32:07 He just happens to be the greatest quarterback of all time too.
00:32:09 I think in some ways Peyton Manning was kind of a game manager.
00:32:12 He needed things around him, you know?
00:32:15 Who else?
00:32:16 Drew Brees.
00:32:17 Like these dudes we consider top five, top six all-time quarterbacks.
00:32:20 A lot of them are game managers.
00:32:24 You're just now starting to see quarterbacks coming into the league that have the ability
00:32:32 to take over a game because they can run out of the pocket.
00:32:37 And now what's happening, they're running with the intention of throwing.
00:32:40 You know what I'm saying?
00:32:44 Back in the day, like Mike Vick, if he's taking off, he's about to run.
00:32:49 You ain't catching him.
00:32:51 And so now you get guys like Cam, who came into the league.
00:32:56 He's in the pocket.
00:33:00 Protection might be breaking down a little bit.
00:33:02 He stays in the pocket.
00:33:03 He can act like a big Ben.
00:33:05 Shrug a guy off his shoulders.
00:33:06 And I say shrug a guy off his shoulders.
00:33:09 I'm talking about shrug a 325-pound D lineman off his shoulder and still keep his eyes down
00:33:17 the field and connect with a deep crossing route or whatnot.
00:33:23 Or you have a guy like him that can roll out of the pocket, but he's got his eyes down
00:33:28 the field.
00:33:31 He's looking for, "I'm going to run, but if I see a touchdown down the field, I'm about
00:33:37 to launch this thing."
00:33:38 Or if I see a wave that I can deliver a ball and pick up 15 rather than me taking off and
00:33:45 getting my head blasted.
00:33:47 You want to talk about a blueprint?
00:33:51 I think that's what you're about to say.
00:33:53 I think he's a trailblazer in that department.
00:33:56 Because he's kind of a mix of...
00:33:59 You just eloquently put Michael Vick and those guys, they were different in terms of if they
00:34:04 took off running, they would run first.
00:34:06 Cam had a little mix of that.
00:34:08 Plus he's still...
00:34:09 I've always said to me, Cam Newton, the player in my lifetime that reminded me the most of
00:34:13 Cam Newton was Randall Cunningham.
00:34:15 The way he played, the way he looted tacklers in the backfield, his arm, and his ability
00:34:21 to throw.
00:34:22 But Randall was ahead of his time.
00:34:23 Well, he was ahead of his time.
00:34:25 Cam took that on a bigger frame and played the same way.
00:34:31 I've always said the same thing for both of them.
00:34:33 If you look at when Cam came into the league in 2011 to now, the top quarterbacks in the
00:34:40 league today, Pat Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, they've all taken things from
00:34:48 Cam.
00:34:49 When people ask him, "Do you think you're a first ballot Hall of Famer?"
00:34:52 He's like, "Yeah."
00:34:53 I'm like, "Yeah, he is.
00:34:54 He is a first ballot."
00:34:55 Absolutely.
00:34:56 If he's not, who is?
00:34:57 He literally checks all the boxes.
00:34:59 He's a trailblazer as a player, but he's also a trailblazer in the department of what is
00:35:06 the NFL today.
00:35:09 You talk about fanmanship.
00:35:10 Is it fanmanship?
00:35:11 Fanship?
00:35:12 I was going to say.
00:35:13 Sportsmanship, the containment value of it.
00:35:14 He understands that.
00:35:15 He understands the brand.
00:35:16 He understands what it is to carry yourself authentically and to do it in a way that's,
00:35:31 "Hey, I'm going to get judgments cast my way," which has given a lot of the players
00:35:38 now the leeway to just be themselves in a league where once upon a time, it wasn't be
00:35:48 yourself.
00:35:49 It was be the script.
00:35:51 Right.
00:35:52 Be this way.
00:35:53 Don't walk off the beat path.
00:35:55 Especially at the quarterback position.
00:35:56 You know what I'm saying?
00:35:59 He's trying to be bigger than the shield.
00:36:02 His personality is just so big that it's hard to contain it.
00:36:05 He doesn't try.
00:36:07 He's a game changer.
00:36:08 Yeah, he's a game changer.
00:36:09 That's what a game changer does.
00:36:11 "Hey, look.
00:36:12 I'm here to rock the ship.
00:36:14 We're going to do it."
00:36:17 Every time he got in that huddle, bro, we could have been down 15 with three minutes
00:36:23 to go.
00:36:24 He got in that huddle, "Oh, we about to win."
00:36:28 You feel the confidence off of him.
00:36:32 Yeah, the energy.
00:36:33 You're just like, "Okay, I'm going to ride with you."
00:36:36 Does a game manager do that?
00:36:38 Some of them can.
00:36:39 Tom Brady can do that too.
00:36:42 I think the difference is physical.
00:36:44 Game changers can do things that game managers can't do.
00:36:47 They literally just can't do it.
00:36:49 Pat Mahomes can do things with a football that Brock Purdy can't do.
00:36:52 Now, Brock Purdy is an interesting conversation right now because people are trying to figure
00:36:57 out where to put him.
00:36:58 Is he a game changer or a game manager?
00:36:59 I think he's a game manager because he's managing a lot of talent.
00:37:03 He's got to make sure he don't turn the ball over.
00:37:06 They're going to do the rest.
00:37:07 But it takes a little bit of ... I feel like there is a little bit of in-between.
00:37:16 Just because you have a lot of players around you don't mean that you're going to be able
00:37:20 to put up.
00:37:22 They did go through a couple of quarterbacks before they got to Purdy, to your point.
00:37:25 Exactly.
00:37:26 It's like, "Hey, look, throw it to this guy.
00:37:27 Okay.
00:37:28 Why didn't you throw it to that guy?"
00:37:30 "Oh, well, because I was late on my timing or because I didn't see him on time or because
00:37:35 I was looking the other way."
00:37:39 It still takes a special player to be able to decide where the ball goes when you have
00:37:46 four guys that are going to be all pro this year on that roster in the skilled position.
00:37:51 Yeah.
00:37:52 Yeah, exactly.
00:37:53 Everybody in the skilled position is going to the Pro Bowl or will get voted to go there.
00:37:58 I wasn't even going to do one this week.
00:37:59 I'm going to tell you why we mad, son.
00:38:00 I'm going to tell you why we mad, son.
00:38:01 I did want to address it because it's from actually last week from this and actually
00:38:05 Richard Fearing reminded me in the comments.
00:38:07 Well, no, that's not it.
00:38:08 Desmond and Jonathan, I appreciate you guys and Skylar.
00:38:10 Keep up the great work you do.
00:38:11 Merry Christmas and keep pounding.
00:38:12 I keep pounding to you too, sir.
00:38:13 I was the one before that.
00:38:15 The way people came at Cam wasn't right.
00:38:17 They didn't make it about his opinion.
00:38:18 They made it about him personally and that's not right.
00:38:20 I totally agree because if somebody else-
00:38:22 That's what they've always done.
00:38:23 Yeah, that's what they've always done.
00:38:25 They've treated him a certain way because of the hats he wears.
00:38:28 He's the only person, I swear, he's the only football player ever where I would be getting
00:38:33 into arguments with people on Facebook on Wednesday about what this dude wore on Sunday
00:38:38 at the podium.
00:38:39 Right.
00:38:40 You know what I mean?
00:38:41 I'm like, "Why are we even having this argument about the dude's dress?
00:38:44 Why do we care what he's wearing?
00:38:46 What did he do on Sunday?
00:38:48 Let's talk about that."
00:38:49 "No, no, he looks crazy.
00:38:51 He's got this hat on.
00:38:52 He's got overalls with a bib and blah, blah, blah."
00:38:54 I'm like, "Nobody cares.
00:38:55 Nobody cares.
00:38:56 Let that man dress the way he wants."
00:38:57 People are afraid of change, especially when they know it's good because that means they
00:39:01 have to change.
00:39:02 Exactly.
00:39:03 Exactly.
00:39:04 Let me go ahead and hit the clip first because I got people asking questions about certain
00:39:10 quarterbacks in the league.
00:39:12 Here's the original clip that's set.
00:39:13 Well, actually, this is his response after the first clip went out to when other talking
00:39:18 heads in the media started coming back at him like, "Dude, you're sitting at home.
00:39:21 You have no reason to talk about who's a game changer, game manager."
00:39:25 That's not the tip he was on and he tried to address it this way.
00:39:27 What did I want to make here is this.
00:39:30 Understanding the difference between a game manager and a game changer.
00:39:34 Game manager is not a negative connotation.
00:39:37 "Kem, what do you mean by game manager?"
00:39:39 My definition of that managing player is a player who has the ability to make the right
00:39:45 play at the right time, protecting the football at all costs.
00:39:50 There's times in my career where I figured this out.
00:39:53 Sometimes, Kem, you don't have to take over a game.
00:39:56 Allow other players to do that.
00:39:58 Look, we're getting personal here.
00:39:59 There's times in my career where I did it and there's times in my career where I didn't.
00:40:07 And second of all, shout out to, I don't know what he did over the past six months, but
00:40:11 Kem Newton's social media and entertainment game has exploded in terms of his podcasting
00:40:16 and that kind of stuff.
00:40:17 His content is really, really getting going.
00:40:21 I'm excited to see where it goes.
00:40:24 Me too.
00:40:25 I saw him and Marshall teaming up together, traveling and doing some things.
00:40:29 I saw that they went on tour or something.
00:40:32 That's actually pretty awesome.
00:40:33 So stuff like that.
00:40:34 I don't know how often you talk to Kem these days or whatnot, but if you could drop a little
00:40:39 note in his ear, "Hey man, why don't you come and check out the Believe in Panthers podcast?
00:40:42 We can do the whole show with you."
00:40:44 Because it feels like you can sit down with Kem and just talk for an hour and 15 minutes
00:40:47 about his life.
00:40:48 Just go through all these things.
00:40:49 Literally.
00:40:50 I was thinking about this the other day too.
00:40:55 He might be my favorite NFL player of all time.
00:40:58 Yeah.
00:40:59 I mean, if you think about it-
00:41:00 And Bo Jackson's the longest.
00:41:03 What you think about, right?
00:41:06 Kem, I talked about this one time.
00:41:12 He played on an offense in college that's had no players on his offense.
00:41:20 The team that he won the national championship with.
00:41:23 None of those players started an NFL game.
00:41:27 Right.
00:41:28 Yeah.
00:41:29 And they weren't that good the year before he was there, if I'm not mistaken.
00:41:30 Right.
00:41:31 Yeah.
00:41:32 They were like five and seven or something.
00:41:33 Game changer.
00:41:34 He's a game changer.
00:41:35 Game changer.
00:41:36 And the crazy thing is he did it the way everybody dreams of doing it.
00:41:45 Think about that.
00:41:46 When you dream of a touchdown and celebrations, you're smiling, you're slapping hands.
00:41:53 Oh, man.
00:41:54 You're giving balls away.
00:41:56 Your dreams are actually exaggerated.
00:42:02 Kem played football and performed and gave people the entertainment that they all wanted
00:42:09 and dreamed of.
00:42:10 We took it for granted too.
00:42:12 Because now, you know how many Panther fans would love to have that back in Bank of America
00:42:16 Stadium?
00:42:17 I remember how I went to, in 2015, I actually went and watched y'all play Houston.
00:42:22 I think it was like week three or something.
00:42:24 It was hot.
00:42:25 Like we were, you know how it is Bank of America.
00:42:27 Like you sit on a certain part of the stadium, there's no shade.
00:42:29 So like if you're playing an afternoon game, you're just baking out there.
00:42:34 And that was the game where Kem flipped into the end zone at the end.
00:42:40 I hadn't been to Bank of America Stadium where it had been that loud.
00:42:42 And then the playoffs.
00:42:44 Oh my God.
00:42:45 The Seattle game and the playoffs.
00:42:48 I've never heard Bank of America Stadium so loud.
00:42:50 It felt like it was shaking through the TV.
00:42:52 It was just the personalities on that team with you and Olsen and everybody.
00:42:57 But Kem being like the leader of that.
00:42:59 The reason you see these coordinated end zone celebrations now with teams or whatever.
00:43:06 It started with Kem.
00:43:07 It started with Kem and y'all's team, 2015.
00:43:10 Like y'all doing the pictures on the sidelines.
00:43:13 Yeah.
00:43:14 Oh, let's take it to the sideline then.
00:43:15 Okay.
00:43:16 It had to be so worth it.
00:43:17 Because at that point, there's still the picture that's out there where it's like literally,
00:43:22 I think the game is still going on.
00:43:24 Like it's towards the end of the regular season.
00:43:25 Yeah.
00:43:26 It's like, oh, it's like 30 minutes.
00:43:27 We're beating somebody behind.
00:43:28 We're beating somebody behind.
00:43:29 It's like, oh, it's like.
00:43:30 That was when we were like, you know, going with the whole seven and oh, eight and oh,
00:43:35 nine and oh, ten and oh, eleven and oh.
00:43:36 Hey, yo, y'all were the worst 14 and oh team of all time, according to the talk committee.
00:43:40 Yeah, whatever.
00:43:41 Yeah, whatever.
00:43:42 And I still in that picture, the thing that stands out.
00:43:45 I'm going to find it when we're done.
00:43:46 So the thing that stands out to me, Greg Olsen is standing there like off to the side, just
00:43:50 like everybody's like everybody's teasing it and like dabbing and stuff.
00:43:56 And Olsen's just kind of like he's almost like he didn't know where he was, like he
00:43:59 didn't know what was going on.
00:44:00 He's just kind of standing there looking with his look on his face.
00:44:03 And I just remember thinking, man, that wasn't at the end of a game.
00:44:06 Like I think the defense is still out there.
00:44:08 I think they're still playing.
00:44:10 Like, well, it's going on.
00:44:11 There's some of the defensive players.
00:44:12 Yeah, yeah.
00:44:13 It was pulling somebody out.
00:44:14 So the fans kind of took that for granted.
00:44:17 And now I think now in hindsight, when they're hearing Kim talk about certain things, they
00:44:21 just kind of reminisce about that, because that honestly was the peak of Carolina Panther
00:44:24 football that 2013 to 2018 stretch, I guess you can say, you know, in the history of it,
00:44:32 three division titles and all that good stuff.
00:44:34 So the final thing I wanted to hit before we got out here, though, in the QB room, who
00:44:41 actually Chris Lee from WRAL told me to go watch it was an interview he had with this
00:44:49 cop was this it's not Kyle Allen.
00:44:51 It's a yeah, it is.
00:44:54 It's Kyle Allen and Jordan Palmer.
00:44:55 They're they're gone.
00:44:57 And they had cam on.
00:44:58 And they were talking about, you know, on the timeline for the Panthers.
00:45:03 What would you do to change it to avoid this?
00:45:05 Because Kim, throughout the episode, he's he's like, you know, I want to show that I'm
00:45:09 still a part of Charlotte.
00:45:10 I'm still part of North Carolina.
00:45:11 I'm still part of this community.
00:45:12 I just have that much love for it.
00:45:14 And he was describing some of the stuff you would do like after games or whatever.
00:45:17 And they asked him the question.
00:45:19 And he was like, I don't want to be well, they basically asked him, would you be would
00:45:22 you be considered to be a coach if you want to come in and be a coach?
00:45:25 And he was like, No, I don't want to be the coach.
00:45:26 I want to be the president, which is something I never really thought of before.
00:45:30 But then he kind of went into it, and it made sense.
00:45:33 And I don't want to go into whether it's possible or that kind of stuff.
00:45:36 I want to go into more of what the fan base accepted and are the reasons he's giving as
00:45:42 to why he would be a good team president actually accurate.
00:45:45 Here's the actually haven't pulled it yet.
00:45:47 The the video from the QB room from last week, if you haven't seen this yet, you can definitely
00:45:55 go check this out.
00:45:57 But here's the clip that I pulled from it here.
00:45:59 Here's Cam talking about what he would do.
00:46:01 I want people in Charlotte to understand.
00:46:04 I'm one of y'all.
00:46:05 Like, when I lose, when we lose, we all lose what we wear.
00:46:10 Man, Krispy Kreme donuts on air.
00:46:12 But I'm a vibe.
00:46:13 You know, I mean, I just want that culture to be there.
00:46:17 Because when I first got to Carolina, it wasn't there.
00:46:19 We would see more Washington jerseys, Pittsburgh jerseys and cowboy jerseys in the fans.
00:46:25 And I was like, no, I think I'm going to make this mine.
00:46:30 And still to this day.
00:46:32 So when I'm saying I don't want to be a coach, I want to be the president.
00:46:36 If you allow me to do that, I can guarantee you I can hold people accountable to sell
00:46:41 tickets.
00:46:42 No more.
00:46:43 And that's the business side.
00:46:44 But also we're going to win football.
00:46:45 All right, Cam, last question.
00:46:46 We're going to.
00:46:47 So I mean, the business is all about selling tickets.
00:46:55 That's right.
00:46:56 Especially premium seats.
00:46:57 You know, you talk about PSLs and you talk about a lot of things.
00:47:02 And, you know, I think, Cam, you know, he has the qualities to sell tickets.
00:47:11 Think about that.
00:47:12 I think he's proven that.
00:47:15 So I mean, yeah, he's proven that with his play.
00:47:19 But like you think about the things that he did as far as his own personal brand.
00:47:25 Think about that.
00:47:26 His own personal brand.
00:47:28 You know, and that's what this is all about.
00:47:30 You know, and I think, you know, we talk about culture, we're really talking about what's
00:47:35 what's our what's our DNA.
00:47:38 You know what I'm saying?
00:47:39 Like and how and how do we share that?
00:47:42 How do we make this not just, you know, the Carolina Panthers thing?
00:47:46 How do we make this the Charlotte thing?
00:47:48 How do we make this the Raleigh thing?
00:47:49 How do we make this the Greenville thing?
00:47:51 How do we make this the Spartanburg thing, you know, touch every city of the Carolinas?
00:47:57 You know what I'm saying?
00:47:58 And how do you relay that message?
00:47:59 And I feel like, you know, a guy like him, he's got all the unique qualities to be able
00:48:04 to, you know, do anything.
00:48:07 You know what I'm saying?
00:48:08 And I mean, obviously, being a team president, you know, there's clearly qualifications that
00:48:13 you need to to have to really have that title.
00:48:18 And I'm pretty sure when he said that, he's not sitting here saying like, hey, hire me.
00:48:22 But I really actually had that question when he said it.
00:48:25 So I was like, is he qualified for it?
00:48:27 But then I was like, well, people, I mean, nowadays, I don't like it.
00:48:32 But I won't even touch that.
00:48:33 Because I mean, right now we have the Carolina Panthers have a team president.
00:48:37 And so but as far as far as far as goes, like what he can do for the organization, shoot,
00:48:45 you can give him a whole different title, ambassador, ambassador or whatever it is,
00:48:51 but I hear a person, but but someone that giving him a title that has free reign to,
00:48:59 you know, to be able to, you know, voice certain things and be heard on certain things and
00:49:04 point things in a certain direction.
00:49:07 That's saying that, again, this is something that he was actually saying he wants to do.
00:49:12 But I'm saying his qualities, the things that can that can can do and the things that, you
00:49:17 know, he represents and and and how he has delivered his personal brand throughout his
00:49:24 playing time in college and in the pros and post football.
00:49:32 Like he he gets it.
00:49:33 He understands what it means to to sell.
00:49:36 He understands what it means to entertain.
00:49:38 He understands what what the fans are expecting.
00:49:41 He understands, you know, what it what it means to give back.
00:49:47 He knows he knows what it's like to be in the community.
00:49:50 He knows what it is to be, you know, in the spotlight.
00:49:55 And and, you know, you know, to to share that, you know, heart on his sleeve, you know, saying
00:50:02 so.
00:50:03 So, yeah, man, I think there's a lot of great qualities about Cam that, you know, when he
00:50:08 says that and, you know, you know, fans hear it, they get excited because they see that
00:50:15 they see, you know, man, if Cam was our team president, that would be amazing because you
00:50:21 want to know why Cam was a part of a lot of people's core memories.
00:50:26 Exactly.
00:50:27 And yes, and that that's what hit me the most when listening to him.
00:50:31 So I'm like, he just detailed out all of my fears that I've put out on this podcast the
00:50:36 past three or four weeks about what was going to happen with the culture of the Carolina
00:50:39 Panthers when they bring in another coach like Frank Wright got sold to us basically
00:50:43 because he was a Carolina Panther like that.
00:50:45 That's what sold him to us was that he was the first quarterback that started.
00:50:49 He lived in Charlotte for 20 years.
00:50:50 He knew what keep pounding meant like he all these things that we loved about Steve Wilkes.
00:50:55 It was kind of easier for us to come off of Wilkes because it was Frank Wright and because
00:50:59 of what he meant to the community.
00:51:00 So you know, 11 games in, I'm more worried about, I don't want you to chase the culture.
00:51:08 Like I don't want you to put somebody here just because they're from North Carolina and
00:51:11 just because, you know, they have association with it, but it's gotta make sense.
00:51:15 Like it's gotta make sense in terms of David from Pittsburgh need a game changer.
00:51:21 They need a game changer.
00:51:22 Now Bryce might be that person, you know, but they need somebody in the front office
00:51:26 too that that league officials and owners are going to listen to and respect when it
00:51:32 comes to talking Carolina Panther business, like someone that knows the history of the
00:51:36 Panthers and the community and what it means to the people here.
00:51:39 Like you said, a lot, half of my, it's like half of my, or a third of my life was watching
00:51:44 Cam Newton play Carolina Panther football.
00:51:46 Like, and again, right now the Carolina Panthers have a team president and you know,
00:51:53 we're not saying declare the fact that we're not saying like, go talking about the quality,
00:52:01 the qualities that cam has.
00:52:03 Yes.
00:52:04 As far as make a position for him, talking about the point, but like, you know, every
00:52:10 team has a team president.
00:52:13 They did for Jim and Dom.
00:52:15 We still don't know what Dom Capers is doing.
00:52:16 Like, well, maybe we do because the defense is off the chain.
00:52:19 So maybe that's what he's been doing all year.
00:52:21 So who don't, and actually that's probably, and everybody has a team president for a reason.
00:52:26 And you know, that position is, is a, is an important position.
00:52:30 Who is our team president?
00:52:32 And so, and so at the end of the day, like, you know, cam, you know, making that comment,
00:52:41 again, he's not saying hire me as the team president because that's what's wrong.
00:52:46 But like, right.
00:52:47 He's saying I have the qualities to be able to like, enhance like the situation, the way
00:52:53 I know how to do it.
00:52:55 You know what I'm saying?
00:52:56 Like, um, and at the end of the day too, it's like, yeah, like that could happen, but we
00:53:01 will never know.
00:53:02 No.
00:53:03 Okay.
00:53:04 So what you're doing and like, eventually who knows down to 10 years from now, who knows
00:53:11 what's going to happen?
00:53:12 So, I mean, if he is a team president, that'd be great.
00:53:15 You know, one day good for his resume, good for Panthers, Panthers culture, real quick,
00:53:22 before we get out of here, Derek, Matthew, Polly asking Dak a changer or a manager.
00:53:26 I'll tell you what he was a game manager the other night.
00:53:28 I don't even know he was either one.
00:53:30 The Cowboys got curb stomped by the bills.
00:53:33 Uh, what?
00:53:34 Sunday night when he played, they couldn't do anything.
00:53:37 Um, no, it was Sunday afternoon.
00:53:40 Um, Dallas can't play on the road for some reason.
00:53:43 I don't know what it, when he got on the road, cause they lost Arizona on the road too.
00:53:46 It's like, I think the San Francisco game was on the road.
00:53:49 So I don't know, but Dak is not, I can't say Dak is a game changer.
00:53:54 He don't, he don't change the game the way like a cam Newton would, where like, you don't
00:53:58 really scheme for Dak.
00:54:00 I don't think you had a scheme for cam like when they came into town or whatever.
00:54:04 So I think that's probably the difference down on ass.
00:54:07 This would probably never happen.
00:54:08 Uh, but it would be amazing.
00:54:10 Sorry.
00:54:11 I see a UPS man coming to my door.
00:54:12 There she is.
00:54:13 That's yeah.
00:54:14 Sorry.
00:54:15 I saw him in the window.
00:54:16 I was like, Oh no, it's about to go down.
00:54:20 And she, she's too.
00:54:22 Um, Dallin says this would probably never happen, but it would be amazing if Tepper
00:54:26 gave each row the head coaching job or at least say it was new coach.
00:54:29 We're keeping the entire defensive coaching staff in the beginning.
00:54:32 I actually felt like, Oh man, all of them are gone.
00:54:34 Then I started thinking about it.
00:54:36 They held Chris Tabor over from the last regime.
00:54:39 They held, uh, James Campion, the offensive line coach over from the last regime.
00:54:43 So those were David Tepper calls.
00:54:45 Who's to say David Tepper didn't go to, to each row.
00:54:47 I'm like, look, I'm gonna make you the highest paid defensive coordinator entirely.
00:54:50 You stay here.
00:54:52 Let me go get a coach and offensive minded coach.
00:54:55 Let's put this thing together.
00:54:56 Cause I don't want Chris Tabor leave either.
00:54:57 Like Chris Tabor, especially.
00:54:58 Yeah.
00:54:59 Is that possible?
00:55:00 Do you think now, is that possible that maybe easier?
00:55:05 Oh, stays as defensive coordinator and or assistant.
00:55:09 I think, I think at this point it's up to him.
00:55:11 Right.
00:55:12 Cause I mean, you know, given his one year, like 10 year here, like he's done tremendously.
00:55:19 He's done a tremendous job.
00:55:22 You know, there's no reason why we should be ranked number three defense where we can't
00:55:27 at all mathematically figure out how it's even possible.
00:55:31 But now, now, I mean, it could, you know, register the fact that, Hey, look, you're,
00:55:36 you have a team that can't score and hasn't haven't scored.
00:55:40 So you know, what you've been doing is, you know, managing a team that's running the ball
00:55:46 to try to run the clock out.
00:55:48 So you're not really having to defend as many passes in the fourth quarter, third quarter,
00:55:53 what have you.
00:55:54 Short turns and turnovers, maybe.
00:55:55 Short fields, turnovers, and just like, you know, turnover and downs.
00:55:59 So I mean, there's a lot that can go into that, but at the end of the day, it could
00:56:03 be way worse.
00:56:04 Yeah.
00:56:05 I mean, we are giving up like 21 points a game or whatever.
00:56:07 So it's not like it's like the doomsday defense or baby fought bears or anything like that,
00:56:11 but they are, but they've kept us, they've kept us in games.
00:56:16 Yes.
00:56:17 And they've been able to keep us watching the game until somewhere in the fourth quarter.
00:56:23 You know what I'm saying?
00:56:24 Yeah.
00:56:25 Dow makes great point without Shaq and all the injuries.
00:56:27 This defense is really, really good.
00:56:28 Can you imagine if Shaq had been out there all year or if JC Warren had been out there
00:56:32 all year or.
00:56:33 We would have, we would have had more touchdowns.
00:56:35 Yeah.
00:56:36 Yeah.
00:56:37 I think so.
00:56:38 I mean, I'm curious because I started thinking about this after that game.
00:56:41 I'm like, man, we just won nine to seven on three field goals because this defense just
00:56:45 kind of pitched almost a shutout.
00:56:46 Is it possible to retain?
00:56:48 Because I don't think he'll become head coach because it does seem like they're stuck on.
00:56:52 I am starting to lean towards his Ben Johnson talk like they're talking, but I'd like it
00:56:55 in coordination with keeping Idra like keep him as DC bring and bring in Ben Johnson as
00:57:01 your head coach and offensive coordinator or whatever you want to do.
00:57:05 I think if he was given a head coaching job for the Carolina Panthers, I would not argue
00:57:10 against it.
00:57:13 But given what we have, if it's not broke, I wouldn't, I wouldn't try to change that
00:57:19 situation.
00:57:21 I would do whatever it takes to keep him here.
00:57:25 And I think, I think what I think with offensive minded head coaches, like I've kind of like,
00:57:32 like I've been biased, right?
00:57:34 Because coach Rivera, you know, was a defensive minded head coach and I've played for nothing
00:57:40 but defensive minded head coaches.
00:57:42 And I love them because they love running the ball.
00:57:45 Yep.
00:57:46 And, but when it comes to like this day and age in football, like, you know, we're clearly
00:57:52 we learned that we have to be able to score.
00:57:56 We have to be good in the red zone.
00:57:57 We have to be able to create different looks on offense and have guys, you know, in different
00:58:03 positions to win.
00:58:05 And the hardest part about that is the identity of an offense.
00:58:11 When you're having offensive coordinators come in and out of situations, shoot, we can
00:58:16 have the best offensive coordinator with a head coach.
00:58:21 You know what I'm saying?
00:58:22 With a defensive minded head coach, the defensive coach is going to stay here, right?
00:58:25 Because he's got a head coaching because he's got a head coaching job.
00:58:28 But the moment you hire an offensive coordinator, that's really good.
00:58:33 He's going to leave because he's going to try to go get another, he's going to try to
00:58:36 get a head coaching job.
00:58:37 18 months.
00:58:38 Yeah, you're right.
00:58:39 So now, so now you're stuck with a defensive head coach.
00:58:45 That's like, okay, now I've got to figure out this offensive identity for what we need
00:58:49 moving forward.
00:58:51 But if you have an offensive minded head coach, you're running with what he's got planned,
00:58:58 right?
00:58:59 And you bring it in offensive coordinator that is on the same wavelength.
00:59:05 So much so to where you're not having to hold his hand.
00:59:08 You know what I'm saying?
00:59:11 I'll end it with this because the thought crept in my head after watching that Bill's
00:59:14 Cowboys game.
00:59:18 What if the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers next year is Joe Brady?
00:59:27 Currently the offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills who got promoted because they
00:59:32 fired.
00:59:33 Or what if the offensive coordinator stays Thomas Brown and you have an offensive minded
00:59:41 head coach come in?
00:59:42 Well, his wife already told us they're fired.
00:59:43 So I don't know.
00:59:44 I don't know all of this.
00:59:53 Richard says if we get Ben Johnson, a good candidate to pair with them with as GM would
00:59:56 be right.
00:59:57 I think it means Ray Agnew, the assistant GM for the Lions.
01:00:00 Agnew has connections with each row as well.
01:00:03 Agnew has connections to well, not to me, but to my community.
01:00:06 He played at Winston-Salem State and he's big here in the area.
01:00:12 There's like streets named after him and stuff up here.
01:00:14 So yeah, if he came in from Detroit to be the GM, which means we're kind of shoving
01:00:20 Scott Fitter out the door and we didn't stop with the trials.
01:00:22 We just put it on pause because we want to gain.
01:00:24 So next week will be Scott Fitter on trial.
01:00:27 Well, the night deserves to stay.
01:00:28 He's been given no assurances according to Joe person that his job is secure for next
01:00:32 year.
01:00:33 So we'll see about that.
01:00:34 I think we get out of here because Instagram is telling me they only do this for an hour
01:00:38 on lob thing.
01:00:39 So they just ended this anyway.
01:00:40 So we'll go ahead.
01:00:41 Stop it right there.
01:00:42 I just realized it was on time.
01:00:45 I just put it on Instagram.
01:00:46 They just opened it up on stream yard like two days ago where you could put it on Instagram
01:00:49 live.
01:00:50 So it's on the believe in Panthers Instagram thing there.
01:00:54 And it's on Twitter as well in the believe in Panthers Twitter account.
01:00:56 So you can share the full shows from there.
01:00:58 We'll be back next week.
01:00:59 Hopefully the whole game will be together again.
01:01:01 Schuyler today's national signing day in college football.
01:01:04 So Schuyler is probably neck deep in like transfers and incoming freshmen who left like
01:01:11 college football is off the chain right now in terms of trying to track roster movement.
01:01:14 So he he is busy.
01:01:17 He's super busy right now.
01:01:18 But he should be back next week.
01:01:20 My prediction this week.
01:01:21 Yeah.
01:01:22 Yeah.
01:01:23 Carolina Panthers going to beat the Green Bay Packers.
01:01:27 It's a home game, right?
01:01:28 Yeah.
01:01:29 24 to 13.
01:01:31 I've seen good Jordan love this year and I've seen bad Jordan love this year.
01:01:34 I don't know which one's going to show up.
01:01:38 I think the Jordan love that's going to show up is the one that he knows he's got to get
01:01:42 back home for Christmas.
01:01:43 Yeah.
01:01:44 So we'll.
01:01:45 That's good.
01:01:46 It's Christmas Day and that's on that Christmas.
01:01:50 Not Christmas Eve.
01:01:51 No, it's Christmas Eve.
01:01:52 OK, so I believe it's a one o'clock kickoff.
01:01:56 It's here.
01:01:57 I need to adjust my Christmas Eve party stuff because we're having Christmas Eve party.
01:02:03 So I think it's the early game.
01:02:04 So we'll kind of snatch.
01:02:05 I'm going to have to do I think I'll do some meatballs like crock pot meatballs that I
01:02:10 do some chicken wings and some finger foods or something.
01:02:14 Hey, if you up here in the area, come through.
01:02:16 Bring bring you how you make your chicken wings.
01:02:19 I lately have an air fryer just because it's healthier, you know, instead of putting grease.
01:02:24 So I'll a little bacon powder, some seasoning, get it to see you got a little crispy.
01:02:30 Put them in there, spray them for a little bit.
01:02:32 About 18 minutes, put them out, toss them in, whatever.
01:02:36 Good to go.
01:02:37 And I need to get out because I had a fried daddy.
01:02:39 My parents are always complaining about me eating greasy foods and they bought me a fried
01:02:42 daddy for for Christmas one year.
01:02:44 I'm just frying everything and they're complaining about it.
01:02:47 You bought it for me.
01:02:48 Like, what am I supposed to buy it for me?
01:02:49 What do I need to be?
01:02:51 So I don't know, but we're doing Christmas dinner, too.
01:02:53 So what's right here as we get out?
01:02:57 What's the thing you want for Christmas this year?
01:03:00 Man, I really don't want anything, you know, I would say, you know, just continue, you
01:03:09 know, health for my family, my friends.
01:03:12 You know, I think that's that's the greatest gift right there.
01:03:17 And just for all of y'all that don't know Jesus, you better get to know his birthday.
01:03:23 I know that's really the greatest gift of all is just, you know, for me, just knowing
01:03:37 that I have a Lord and Savior.
01:03:38 I am.
01:03:39 I knew I was getting old when the top of my list was like T-shirts and socks.
01:03:44 Like, I want them.
01:03:45 Please give me some socks and T-shirts because I'm burning through them.
01:03:49 So I definitely getting old man stuff.
01:03:52 I love it.
01:03:53 The stuff I mean, so we'll be back after Christmas because Christmas is on Monday.
01:03:57 I think we'll be back on Tuesday next week.
01:03:59 We'll check and see because things should be down a little bit with the holidays coming
01:04:03 to a close over the weekend.
