00:00 Most times it's considered like the freshmen are going to redshirt.
00:05 Is there a plan with this group, even if it's special teams,
00:09 that maybe some fast tracking to get them ready quicker than normal?
00:14 I think we'll be surprised because I always am.
00:18 You know, when you bring in a class like this,
00:20 there's certain guys in this class I think maybe this guy needs
00:22 to develop a little bit, but then when he gets here you're like,
00:24 "Oh, no, he's going to play."
00:25 You know, so that's one of the fun things I think for coaches
00:28 is to be able to bring these guys in, particularly now we'll have 10 of them
00:31 that will be here in spring so we get to see that.
00:34 And then in the summertime we'll get to see the rest of those guys.
00:37 But I feel like the days of, "Hey, man, you're all going to redshirt,"
00:41 we're done for that.
00:43 I feel like there's going to be a bunch of these guys that will be playing
00:45 for us next year.
00:47 Who they are, it's hard to say as we sit here today,
00:49 but there will be some guys out of this bunch right here that will play,
00:53 that will certainly be on special teams,
00:55 that will also be in their positions that we recruited them to play
00:58 and get some great valuable time.
01:00 So, a lot of it depends on how quickly they learn our stuff
01:05 and get here and go through that.
01:07 That's why I think the 10 guys will have an upper edge on that
01:11 because they'll get to go through spring and make some mistakes
01:13 and then grow from that as opposed to the guys just having a summer.
01:16 [Inaudible]
01:24 Yeah, I mean, I think, yeah, the physical, they bring it.
01:27 You know, Simeon, I mean, there's some hits on there.
01:29 He's taking heads off, man.
01:31 I mean, some of it looks illegal.
01:33 I mean, he's hitting them so hard.
01:34 I mean, I saw helmets flying and stuff.
01:36 But I'm going to tell you about him.
01:37 You would never know that if you walked in the room.
01:40 He's got one of the greatest smiles you'll see.
01:42 He's like a teddy bear, you know, just hanging out.
01:44 But then something switches when he puts the pads on and goes on the field
01:48 and just starts hitting people.
01:49 So, I love how physical he is.
01:52 You know, but both of these linebackers, you know, can move.
01:55 They're physical.
01:56 You know, at this day and age, you've got to be able to have backers that,
02:00 you know, obviously you want to be able to fill the A gaps,
02:02 but you've got to have backers that can also run,
02:04 and especially in this conference.
02:06 You know, we think about the quarterbacks that can run in this league.
02:08 These running backs, running games are really good.
02:11 And then obviously throw games.
02:12 You've got to be able to have versatile linebackers that can run side to side
02:15 as well as have a good physical presence to be able to plug A gaps.
02:19 I feel like both of these guys are able to do that.
02:22 The team leaders that were returning to the football team.
02:26 Yep.
02:28 What have you seen them react to this?
02:31 How kind of motivated?
02:34 Yeah, I mean, they're excited about adding guys to this.
02:38 You know, as you think about the transfers that are coming in,
02:41 we had, you know, several of our guys,
02:43 some of the guys we had in the press conference the last time we were in here
02:47 were either ate dinner, hung out, they were with them.
02:50 And, you know, they sign off.
02:52 I mean, we're not taking any of these guys unless they say yes,
02:55 they're going to be one of us.
02:56 And, you know, so it just tells you how much, you know,
03:00 they're involved in this football team and how much they care.
03:03 You know, it's not like one of these deals, hey, we're coming back to play
03:05 another year, well, no, we're coming back to play another year,
03:08 but we're going to add to this and help us be very competitive when we go out
03:10 on the football field with the kind of guys that are like us.
03:13 And so, I mean, I think they're excited, they're pumped.
03:16 I mean, you know, they're ready to get back and go to work.
03:19 I mean, our guys, I mean, Corleone and Connor were just in my office just then
03:22 and just finished working out.
03:23 I mean, you know, we're basically on a break right now,
03:25 and they're just over here working out.
03:27 So, they're eager and they're hungry to get back here in January
03:30 and start going back to work.
03:32 Chad, final question.
03:34 The recruiting calendar has changed so much.
03:37 Most of high school recruiting,
03:39 it feels like your commits are done by June and July.
03:42 In the old days, four years ago, which is an eternity,
03:48 high school tape was really important because decisions,
03:51 a lot of decisions weren't made at least until halfway through the high school.
03:56 How important is still watching that high school tape
03:59 and making sure that your evaluation is on track
04:03 as opposed to just getting them in the fold and not worrying about it?
04:07 That's a great point.
04:09 Because the way it is now, everything is sped up so much in recruiting.
04:14 You're basically recruiting all sophomore and junior film.
04:17 Now, guys that peak as a sophomore, that's not what you want.
04:21 You want these guys to continue to get better and better each and every year,
04:24 and to continue to develop.
04:26 You don't want guys that are tapped out by the time they get to college.
04:29 So, we did.
04:30 I mean, we watched all these guys' senior tape as we went through,
04:33 and most of them were committed early.
04:35 But we still go back and we watch their tape.
04:37 We'll even talk to them all the time.
04:39 So, we'll critique and tell them, "Hey, listen, you need to do this better.
04:41 You need to look at working on this right here," or whatever.
04:44 And so, you're coaching them already, really, and they're not even here yet.
04:48 But I do think high school senior film is a very, very valuable film
04:53 because you can tell exactly where they are and where they're trending.
04:56 But we don't have the luxury to wait for that anymore.
04:59 I mean, because if you think about it, if we wait until senior film
05:02 and we started trying to get some guys, they're all going to be committed,
05:05 and it's going to be hard to get them.
05:06 And so, you have to go early.
05:07 You have to do a great job.
05:08 And I think that's where our recruiting department was starting with Zach
05:12 and the rest of his guys.
05:13 You have to have outstanding people to be able to do that because they have to
05:16 identify and see and learn and grow, all the things that it takes to be a really
05:20 good college player at an early level.
05:23 You know, we think about sophomore, junior film.
05:25 And so, our guys have done a great job, and I really appreciate all their hard
05:28 work to be able to put this great class together.
05:30 I can't wait to get started.
05:31 All right, thanks, guys.
