00:00 Alright, let's start with questions guys.
00:07 I've seen Tyree Hingba, Wilson, used all over the line, especially inside. What was the impetus behind that?
00:17 You've got to do these words man. You've got to pull them out once every 10 weeks.
00:23 Really I would say for Tyree, anytime you have flexibility up in the front, that's a positive.
00:31 So they can get a lead on where you're lining up, who they're studying in terms of going into the game.
00:37 And I think the thing for Tyree, because of his skill set, in terms of one, physical makeup, he has length,
00:43 he's a strong player, he's strong, can play with good leverage, it allows for us to move him around
00:49 and take advantage of his quickness, his length on certain guys. So that's always a positive.
00:55 And like I've said before, I think it's always good with those young edge rushers.
00:59 Again, not every case, but I think in a lot of cases that I've been involved with, it's always good to move them down there early
01:05 so they understand how to use their hands and then it's just going to transfer to them being better players on the outside.
01:11 Coach, a couple of days ago Antonio Cruz was talking about Malcolm Clemson said that you guys have kind of had to adapt
01:17 how you coach the player, more so kind of adapting the player, which you guys do.
01:21 What's been the overall structure of how to have that looked for developing Malcolm Clemson?
01:27 Well, I can't speak for AP, but I can take you through what I think happened with Malcolm.
01:33 Malcolm, skilled player in terms of speed, quickness, ability to bend, plays with his hands,
01:39 and just the consistency of it showing up and where it started, started practice.
01:45 You guys, everybody on defense, to the men, I mean, I probably pointed out, me, myself, Robbie, Matt, AP,
01:56 we pointed out how he's been practicing this whole year.
01:59 And I'll say, especially over the last six weeks, it's been impressive.
02:03 I stopped watching the tape one time, just like for dramatic effect, I guess.
02:07 And we had gone 20 plays and I said, you know, Malcolm's done everything exactly how we wanted him to do this whole practice.
02:14 And I made sure the next day when we got with the players, I made sure I told them that.
02:18 I said, that's why he's getting better.
02:20 So, again, how we adapt to it, again, it's our job to put him in the right spots
02:25 and make sure we're good at teaching him the right things.
02:29 But I think just what Malcolm's done, again, I never want to give us too much credit.
02:35 It's him making the decision, practice the right way, get better to improve, put in the necessary work.
02:42 And it's not, it's just, that's what it comes down to in professional football.
02:46 Guys making the decision to improve and then me trying to stay out of the way and not mess him up.
02:51 And I just couldn't be more proud of that guy in terms of I still remember the Zoom call I had with him
02:56 when he was coming out of college, when he was at Buffalo.
02:59 I like him then, I like him now.
03:02 Great player, I mean, he's just improving every day from the start of the practice.
03:08 So it's not just coach when you say that, you probably could ask him that, but I won't speak for him.
03:13 >> A little bit to Tyree, how much have you seen maybe in terms of just development of his confidence
03:17 and his belief in what's important?
03:20 >> Part of confidence starts with getting reps, I think, and just getting repetition.
03:25 We talk all the time, self-confidence over self-esteem.
03:28 Self-esteem a lot of times is the talk, self-confidence comes from the preparation you put in, the work you put in.
03:33 So he's constantly getting better in practice.
03:36 Yeah, I can't stress it enough, and I think it's so important, especially in this game,
03:41 that practice becomes game reality.
03:45 We all talk about that, you've heard that.
03:47 And in practice, between periods, the time before practice when he's out there,
03:53 he's putting in the work and then you're seeing the results.
03:55 And again, couldn't be more proud of him in terms of how he's improved.
03:59 >> Coach, limiting yards after catch is important every week, but is it emphasized a little bit more
04:04 when you're facing a team like Kansas City who leads the league in yards after catch?
04:07 >> Absolutely.
04:08 You've got to talk about their strengths.
04:11 So as we get the stats or the analytics, whatever you want to call it,
04:14 and you're looking at, okay, here, yards after catch, okay, whoa, they're good at this.
04:18 All right, tackling is important this week.
04:20 I mean, it's always important, but you've got to--
04:22 I think when their strengths jump out to you, you've got to point it out to the players.
04:28 Okay, so because we go into the game, yes, we're trying to minimize the points,
04:32 we're trying to win the situation with football, but we're trying to minimize their strengths.
04:36 So that's a strength.
04:37 You've got to point that out.
04:38 And then more importantly for us as coaches, we've got to tell them how we're going to do that.
04:42 All right, we need to make sure the pursuit is good and we're running to the ball
04:46 and we're game tackling and we're limiting the explosives after they catch the ball.
04:51 So you've got to always point out their strengths, I think.
04:54 Coach, I know you're just constantly watching films, watching different things.
04:58 How many times did you watch the Jack Jones play, and did you think he had it in him?
05:03 I probably watched it four to six times, and did I think he had it in him?
05:07 Yeah, I mean, good player, and studied the tape.
05:11 You know, again, we go back to that four-by-one, you know, that--
05:16 I let--you know, somebody else thought I was going to say that,
05:18 but four-by-one, that's something that, you know, we've seen from that coordinator
05:21 since time in Dallas, you know, when they put Zeke out at one.
05:25 It was just different things.
05:27 We've seen that play and we talk about that play.
05:30 And I think he did a good job of reading it and trusting his instincts,
05:34 but I think he could have it in him.
05:36 Yes, I mean, he's an instinctual football player,
05:39 and we try to encourage that as much as possible.
05:42 Another one-handed catch.
05:44 That looked like Kiss the Ring, Mike Drake.
05:46 That's what I saw.
05:47 When I kept rewinding it, it made me think of how he caught it.
05:50 It was like MJ on the Kiss the Ring dunk.
05:52 I mean, I'm probably talking, I'm old.
05:54 But, like, that's what it reminded me of, and I said,
05:56 "That would be a real cool post, just like the Kiss the Ring post."
05:59 It was pretty cool.
06:01 That's what I meant, just that kind of hand like that.
06:04 Yeah, no, I mean, yeah, I mean, yeah, I thought he could do it.
06:07 [laughter]
06:10 Anything else?
06:12 When you--you guys have a full team to perform for.
06:14 I know you're just--your folks have a defense,
06:16 but when you have a whole team to perform, is it--
06:20 to have all that extra time off, would you prefer to sit back on the field
06:25 and get back out there and try to keep that going?
06:27 This winter season, time off to see your fans during the holidays,
06:30 I mean, if he gives it to us, we'll take it.
06:34 My babies, they appreciate it, so, you know, got a few extra hugs,
06:38 a few extra kisses and stuff from the kiddos and the wife,
06:41 so, I mean, I'm not going to complain about that.
06:44 We'll get the work done.
06:46 What is your preferred Christmas?
06:48 My preferred Christmas?
06:50 I love--no, no, Christmas.
06:52 I told you, I'm not big into the holidays during football season.
06:55 Christmas, I get down for Christmas.
06:58 My favorite Christmas--the one I watch the most this Christmas,
07:02 it has, like, Regina King--no, Regina King, Chris Brown's in it,
07:09 Chris Alba, the one in London.
07:15 [laughter]
07:17 Sorry.
07:18 Whatever, that's the one I watch.
07:20 That's the one I watch.
07:22 I watch that about four or five times.
07:23 I watch the New England Mercury one.
07:25 That was good.
07:26 All right?
07:27 That's good.
07:28 All right, cool.
07:29 That's kind of it.
