Sergiy Korobeinikov's Fatal Crash @ Bukovyna 2017 (Aftermath)

Veteran Ukrainian rally driver Sergiy Korobeinikov, 61, was killed on Saturday, 09 September 2017 during the Rally Bukovyna, third round of the Ukrainian Rally Championship - some sources reported the rally to be the fourth round instead of third.

Sergiy Korobeinikov's GAZ 2410 #18 left the road, crashed into a concrete wall and rolled into a ditch. His co-driver Andrey Panenko sustained a left arm displacement and a fracture of two bones in the pelvis.

The accident happened during the sixth special stage "Orlyne Gnizdo", near the village of Striletsky Kut, in Chernigov Region, Ukraine. After the fatal accident, the special stage was stopped and the remainder of the day's rally events were canceled.

Widely regarded as one of the most experienced rally drivers in Ukraine, Sergiy Mikhailovich Korobeinkov was born on 16 July 1956. He was reported to be from Odessa. On Post-Soviet Union rally scene he was known as "Korabl'" ("The Ship").
