A serious accident occured during the 46th edition of the Żubry Rally, a traditional season-closing non-championship event in Cracow area, southern Poland. Amongst participants were many veteran drivers competing at the wheel of modern and classic cars. Possibly safety standards were not as high as in regular Polish Rally Championship events.

The accident occurred on Saturday, 10 November 2012, during the fourth special stage - Kobylec, second running - of the rally. An Austin Mini MkII driven by Maciej Kamieński, with his father Paweł Kamieński as co-driver, left road and hit a bank. As a result of the crash, Paweł Kamieński was in a serious condition, he had to be resuscitaded by the emergency crews and later was trasferred by helicopter to hospital. Reportedly, Kamieński's injury was so severe because mounting of the Mini seat-belts broke in consequence of the accident.

Paweł Kamieński never regained consciousness and succumbed to his injuries almost ten weeks later, on Friday, 18 January 2013. A famous and experienced vintage car restorer, he was buried at Bródno cemetery in Warsaw, Poland.
