Tyler Boyd on Bengals Win Over Vikings
Transcript
00:00 Take us through the play.
00:02 How did it happen for you?
00:04 Well, initially I was a throw anyway.
00:08 I was hoping if you go back and watch the play,
00:09 but he got pressure.
00:11 And I just tried to stay with him and just stay in that open
00:13 void where I know he could find me and I can at least make
00:15 the catch and get the first down.
00:17 And all the rest, I was just, you know,
00:18 try to be a guy and go make a play.
00:20 I mean, he's close to going out of bounds and throwing it,
00:23 but were you even expecting him to try to rip one
00:25 to you at that point?
00:26 No, because once I looked and bent in there
00:29 and he didn't hit it right then and there,
00:30 because I knew it wasn't coming to and I was a throw.
00:33 And I knew I didn't know if I was going to come.
00:34 But every time he scrambles or anybody scrambles,
00:37 you have an opportunity to get the ball.
00:38 So you just got to get open and make yourself available.
00:41 And from there, he got to find me.
00:43 You ever move there to get open?
00:46 Nah, you know, I just had to find out the open void,
00:49 find some separation from the defense.
00:52 And it was kind of crazy because as I was going,
00:54 I seen T reacting the same, I'm calling it that way,
00:57 he was reacting the other way because the middle of the field
00:59 was open.
01:00 So he was thinking the ball was going to him.
01:02 And I kind of tensed up thinking we was going to collide.
01:05 So I'm like, look, I just got to go in here
01:06 and make this catch.
01:07 Which one of us going to catch it?
01:08 We got to catch it.
01:08 Was that the biggest thing, T, that you thought
01:12 maybe you might be on a collision course with me?
01:15 Yes, that was the only thing that we just collided
01:18 and neither one of us make the play.
01:19 You know, it was third down, third and 12, 11,
01:21 something like that.
01:22 And so that was the turning point
01:24 with the most crucial play in the game, you know?
01:26 And thankfully I ended up being able to catch the ball
01:29 and making a play and getting us in position to win.
01:31 What did you think about T's ability to contort his body
01:36 and to get that touch on the second ball?
01:38 T, man, everybody knows that he's a freakish athlete.
01:41 And anytime the ball go his way,
01:44 he going to make something special happen out of it.
01:45 And it's great awareness for him to know
01:46 where he was on the field, you know?
01:48 But also he might get a little something for ball security,
01:51 you know, reaching, you know, we take it to one.
01:53 But at the end of the day, man,
01:54 I'm just thankful that he held onto the ball
01:56 and was aware of himself and knowing where he was,
01:58 and who was around him.
02:00 So yeah, man, T, he never fails to surprise any of us.
02:04 - Why do you think this offense is so good?
02:06 Like, what, going after strong defense?
02:09 - 'Cause I think that's when we come alive as a team.
02:11 You know, we know once the time start clicking down,
02:15 start counting down and it's time for us to do something
02:17 to win this game, it's time for guys to step up.
02:19 And I feel like every guy on both sides,
02:22 22 guys is willing to step up
02:24 and try to do something to win that game.
02:26 Pratt, you know, he got that walk-off pick.
02:27 Should have been the game right there,
02:29 but we had a penalty.
02:30 So we just got to continue to keep fighting,
02:32 fighting against adversity.
02:33 And they came up short on the third and one,
02:35 fourth and one, and we was able to take advantage of that.
02:38 So I mean, every player,
02:39 every player gonna come around
02:42 and try to help this team any way they can.
02:44 - Why do you think this team is so resilient, Tyler,
02:47 that when it feels like the season's on the line,
02:49 this team steps up and makes the kind of plays
02:51 to keep the season alive?
02:52 - Because we're great under pressure.
02:54 You know, nobody folds when the pressure's on.
02:56 When the pressure rise,
02:58 that's when guys don't hire alert, especially myself.
03:00 You know, when the pressure's on,
03:01 I want to be that guy to help this team win any way I can,
03:04 whether it's in a blocking or I catch some, you know,
03:07 that's the mentality we got to have, you know,
03:09 and that's contagious in this locker room.
03:11 And from that point,
03:12 that's how guys want to go about business.
03:15 - What does NCAA say about this team
03:16 to watch multiple starters at key positions go down?
03:20 You guys have to essentially fight
03:21 for everything you get this season,
03:23 but you guys are doing that.
03:24 Now you're eight and six,
03:25 you're still in playoff contention.
03:26 How does it feel to be in that position?
03:28 - I mean, it feels great.
03:29 It feels unbelievable, you know,
03:31 but at the same time, we control our destiny.
03:33 You know, we know what we're capable of,
03:35 despite Joe having a season-ending injury.
03:38 We still believe, you know,
03:39 'cause Jake's been here,
03:41 my whole career, four years or whatever,
03:44 and he knows the offense in and out, you know,
03:46 and obviously it's different tools
03:49 that they're better at, you know,
03:50 but at the end of the day,
03:51 he got so much playmakers and so much good talent,
03:53 so many guys that does their job at a high level,
03:57 so I mean, it's allowed him to go out there and play boys.
04:00 - You guys have pulled a lot of wins out
04:01 that maybe looked like losses before,
04:03 but like, was today one where you were looking back
04:05 and saying, "How the hell did we win that game?"
04:07 (laughs)
04:09 - Not really, because I mean,
04:12 me personally and I know a lot of guys,
04:14 we always look at the game.
04:16 Until it hits zero, we feel like we're gonna win the game,
04:17 whether we're down 14, 21, we always have opportunity.
04:21 We got this real, real, real special group here,
04:23 and at any given second, minute,
04:25 something special can happen, you know,
04:27 just like I keep talking about the practice,
04:28 that was so unexpected, it was so on point,
04:31 so perfect timing, it was great, you know,
04:33 so just guys just keep working
04:35 and just taking advantage of the opportunities.
