Everton January window look ahead

Are they in a position to be spending in January?
Transcript
00:00 Well, moving on to Everton, obviously the January window approaching, what do you think they need from this window and how important could it be for them going on to the rest of the season?
00:12 Yeah, it's an interesting month for Everton, obviously, with the financial situation, how much money is to spend, a couple of takeover.
00:20 Sean's ice said a few weeks ago that he doesn't think the situation is going to change an awful lot, so that means there might not be massive amounts to spend.
00:31 And he'll have to be clever and savvy in the transfer market, as Kevin Felder will again, like he were in the summer.
00:37 I think Everton's squad is a little bit thin, especially when a couple of injuries do crop up.
00:42 You only have to look at the bare in the game when he has a few injuries and three young lads on the bench plus two goalkeepers.
00:52 Luckily enough, Everton were fine with that and then obviously have to light the core of the Olympics off as well.
00:57 With Patrice Sagana going to AFCON in January, it wouldn't surprise me if he did look at bringing a midfielder in.
01:04 I already think there's a midfielder light at the moment because he's played deeper in two of the past three games, absolutely.
01:16 But I don't really underdice countering as a centre midfielder, countering as more of a number 10, a second striker, because that's the role that he's played in and thrived in.
01:26 He's been absolutely excellent against Newcastle and against Burnley. He had to play deeper and that goal threat wasn't quite there, obviously through no fault of his own because he was playing a deeper role.
01:38 But when he's been so potent for Sean Dyche, you'll want to play him as an advanced midfielder, stroke forward, which makes a lot of sense to me.
01:47 Obviously, Dele Alli has not played this season and the overhang of him being that he might have to play top, even if he does come back a bit once he hits 20 games, that's ÂŁ10 million of Everton in a position to play top on ÂŁ10 million.
02:01 Juan Dere Gomez hasn't played all season, he's nearing a comeback. Is he a Sean Dyche midfielder?
02:06 Is he someone who really wants to play in the front of the ball and just keep on going, show energy?
02:11 He's more of someone who likes to get on the ball, isn't he, and pick a pass, take his time and dictate, which isn't quite the way Sean Dyche plays.
02:19 So I think midfielder and then I think a left back if he could get a cover in for Vitaly Mikhailenko, who's been excellent.
02:29 But he's obviously missed the Burnley game. You know what, I think they're fairly well stocked because they've got Nathan Paterson, they've got James Coleman, who's come back from his injury now.
02:39 He's got a goal as well, he can cover his base as well. But they might want another specialist left-footer, maybe someone who can play a little bit higher up the pitch as well, if he'll get someone in.
02:49 It'll be interesting to see what happens to Dan Dume in January. I asked Sean Dyche about his left back loan because it ends in January and he pretty much batted it off.
02:59 He didn't really want to entertain the question. But Dan Dume, he's played about 20 minutes in the past seven games for Everton.
03:09 A player who helped Villareal get to the Champions League semi-final a couple of years ago and he's not getting a sniff.
03:15 So I can't imagine he'll be on a low wage. I think he'd be on a decent salary to Everton. Look at that maybe and think, 'Oh, for what we're paying Dan Dume, we maybe could go and get two other players in potentially.'
03:28 Someone who maybe fits Dyche's system a little bit more as well. But he has got a little bit of quality that maybe our lachlan, if he needs to bring someone on, could make a difference.
03:43 So there's maybe a little bit of a quandary there. But again, it'll be down to finances and what Everton can do.
