00:00 It's been three long years since millions of devotees last came together for the traslasyon.
00:05 But this January 9, 2024, the tradition of moving the image of the Black Nazarene from
00:11 the Quirino Grandstand to the Quiapo Church in time for the Feast of the Nazarene will
00:15 again come to life.
00:17 The tradition has not been observed in the past few years because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
00:23 This is why authorities and volunteers are already gearing up for the return of traslasyon.
00:27 "Our preparation is important so that we can achieve our goal of making the Nazareno
00:35 2024 traslasyon peaceful, holy and safe."
00:40 "We expect the same fervor to be felt in the future.
00:45 Maybe even more now because our devotees have been deprived for three years of being
00:52 here in the traslasyon and in the Quiapo Church."
00:57 Weeks ahead of the religious procession, Quiapo Church officials, together with representatives
01:02 from other relevant agencies, conducted a walk-through along the intended route of the
01:06 traslasyon.
01:07 This, to inspect the parts of the route and pin down areas which may be considered hazards
01:12 to those joining the traslasyon, like open manholes, construction sites and dangling
01:17 overhead cables.
01:18 "The only thing I saw there was that the other roads were a bit narrow, including the
01:25 wires and the fences along the street, which will be cleared."
01:36 They also stopped to inspect each prayer station in the route to assign those who will guard
01:40 the area during the procession.
01:42 According to the initial estimate of the Manila Police District, some 7,000 police personnel
01:47 will be deployed for the traslasyon.
01:49 Meanwhile, the Quiapo Church will prohibit devotees from climbing up the andas or carriage,
01:53 but throwing small towels will still be allowed so these may be wiped on the black nazarene.
01:59 Devotees will also be allowed to touch and hold on to the rope that pulls the andas,
02:03 like before.
