00:00 Beyond the weekend storm along the East Coast,
00:01 what can we expect moving forward?
00:03 We're gonna head to Bernie Rayno and AccuWeather
00:04 long range expert Joe Lumberg to find out.
00:07 - As we take a look ahead to next week, Joe,
00:14 there are some similarities in the pattern
00:17 that we've been going through this week.
00:19 - There are, Bernie.
00:20 You look at the three things to know about next week.
00:22 There's gonna be some cold in the Northeast.
00:24 We saw it this past week, but then it retreats,
00:26 and it's really nothing out of the ordinary.
00:28 It'll be dry and mild again from the plains
00:30 to the Southeast for much of the week.
00:33 It will turn wet in the West,
00:34 and that could mean some changes as we go into the week
00:37 after Christmas across the country.
00:39 Let's look at the pattern for next week,
00:40 and as you mentioned, pretty similar.
00:42 Bulge in the jet stream in the nation's midsection,
00:44 which means dry and mild for the most part
00:46 through the heart of next week.
00:48 There is some wetness that'll finally get into California
00:50 from that dip in the jet stream.
00:51 That's one of the differences from this week to next week.
00:53 Cold in the Northeast after that storm departs,
00:56 but even that starts to retreat
00:58 by the time we get to Thursday and Friday.
00:59 - All right, Joe, everybody wants to know,
01:01 why Christmas, just by that map alone,
01:03 it doesn't look good for much of the country.
01:05 - Yeah, I say thumbs down at that point in time.
01:08 Kid me says, "Yeah, I'd like to see some snow,"
01:09 but for much of the plains on East,
01:11 you're just not gonna see any snow at all.
01:13 And even on Christmas Day,
01:15 maybe there's a little chance of it up in here,
01:16 but that's about the best chance right now.
01:18 Mountains of the Northeast will probably see some snow
01:20 on the ground as well and in the Rockies, but that's it.
01:22 - All right, Joe, you and the Long Range team
01:24 already looking at the last week of 2023,
01:26 and something has caught your eye.
01:28 - Yeah, keep an eye on a system coming into California
01:31 maybe next weekend.
01:32 As it comes out into the Plains states,
01:34 it may cause an area of low pressure to form,
01:36 and as it does, it will track eastward.
01:38 Beneficial rain seem likely during the week
01:40 between Christmas and New Year's
01:41 across the Southern tier states.
01:43 If some cold air can get injected as the storm comes east,
01:46 on the Northern side of it,
01:47 there may be some wintry precipitation,
01:49 something to keep an eye on as we get past Christmas.
01:52 - All right, good stuff out there.
