Rudolph and Frosty's Christmas in July (1979)

  • last year
Rudolph and Frosty's Christmas in July (titled on-screen as Rudolph and Frosty: Christmas in July) is an American-Japanese Christmas/Independence Day film produced by Rankin/Bass Productions, featuring characters from the company's holiday specials Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964) and Frosty the Snowman (1969), among others. It was filmed in Japan using the company's trademark "Animagic" stop-motion animation style. The film was originally a theatrical film released through Avco Embassy Pictures where it ran for only 2-3 weeks and was considered a box office flop. Later that year, the film premiered on television in the US on November 25, 1979, on ABC where it received better status.

00:03:54 Yes, sir! Believe it or not, Rudolph's nose went out!
00:03:59 And all because of something that started years and years ago!
00:04:03 And I mean years!
00:04:06 Long before I came to the North Pole, all this territory was ruled over by...
00:04:12 a powerful magic king of the North Pole named...
00:04:17 Winterbolt!
00:04:20 [music]

00:04:54 But one day...
00:04:56 [gasp]
00:04:57 There came a being who was more than his match!
00:05:03 Lady Boreal, the queen of the Northern Lights,
00:05:08 who took on human form in order to defy Winterbolt and defend the oppressed and innocent.
00:05:16 King Winterbolt!
00:05:19 For years I have seen your malevolent cruelty,
00:05:22 and now I take human form to command thee,
00:05:26 stop this tyranny at once!

00:06:15 And he fell into a profound sleep of many, many winters.
00:06:23 [snoring]
00:06:28 And eventually, Winterbolt and all his evil were forgotten.
00:06:34 The good and gentle creatures returned to the North.
00:06:39 First, the animals, and then the little ones, the Kringle elves.
00:06:48 And I suppose it was Lady Boreal's good grace
00:06:52 which led me and my young bride to these Northlands,
00:06:58 the perfect place for me to build my toy factory
00:07:02 and carry out my life's mission,
00:07:05 far away from all who would stop me.
00:07:19 And the passing years were good to all of us,
00:07:22 but Lady Boreal's monumental efforts had drained her
00:07:26 of most of her magic and all of her strength.
00:07:30 She knew her days as a human were numbered.
00:07:36 Alas, nothing is forever,
00:07:40 but in Santa the Northlands have a kind and true leader,
00:07:46 and I may rest with ease.

00:14:26 And if you ever saw it, you would even say it glows.
00:14:33 All of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names.
00:14:40 They never let poor Rudolph join in any reindeer games.
00:14:46 Then one foggy Christmas Eve Santa came to say, Rudolph, with your nose so bright, won't you guide my sleigh tonight?
00:15:00 Then all the reindeer loved him as they shouted out with glee, Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, you'll go down in history.
