Analyzing how the San Francisco 49ers defensive line is deeper than ever.
Transcript
00:00 get the defensive lines, Avon Hargrave down, Eric Armstead down.
00:02 What are the niners got left?
00:04 Well, I mean, it's funny.
00:07 I talked to chase young after the game and he said, he's never played on a line
00:11 on the same side of the line with Bosa, but yesterday, Grant, the Niners went
00:16 Gregory and Bosa outside and they went chase young and Hargrave inside.
00:21 So kind of like almost like a, you know, kind of a version of their NASCAR look.
00:28 So that, that got that group, that foursome either got home or nearly
00:33 got home on almost every single time they were on the field.
00:37 Um, but to me, Givens is playing well, Kali has got some talent
00:42 and Kinlaw has stepped it up.
00:45 I mean, I thought Siobhan Kinlaw in the last two games has been active against the run.
00:51 He's playing with a bended knee.
00:53 He's getting penetration, the motor, the strength.
00:57 Uh, he's not coming up out of his stance and losing leverage.
01:00 He's staying low and he's playing the best ball of his career right now.
01:05 I don't think it should be surprising about Javon Kinlaw.
01:09 Like he's too talented.
01:11 And so is Chris Kisaric.
01:13 It was going to happen eventually, as long as Javon Kinlaw could go to practice
01:18 every day and practice fully, which his knee wouldn't let him do for three years.
01:23 Finally, he could do it and he's been doing it since, since minicamp.
01:27 He's had no setbacks practice fully every day.
01:31 It's been like six months or more.
01:34 And it was, he's too good, too good of an athlete.
01:37 Chris Kisaric is too good of a coach.
01:39 The improvement was going to come.
01:40 He never had the opportunity to actually improve.
01:43 Now he has it.
01:44 It's a great story.
01:45 It is a great story.
01:47 Um, and, uh, I don't, I don't, you know, it, it's amazing to me, Grant, that
01:52 this year for the first time, he's been able to stay injury free and play with
01:58 leverage.
01:59 Um, here's my question.
02:01 Is it assumed that he's moving on at the end of the year or can the 49ers, even
02:07 though they didn't pick up the fifth year option, still bring him back?
02:10 Because when you talk to Javon, the one thing that's really clear is
02:14 that he loves Eric Armstead.
02:16 And I don't mean loves like, Hey, their teammates or their line mates.
02:20 He looks up to him almost like he even told me the other day in the locker room.
02:23 He's like, he's like almost like a second dad.
02:25 He's like a fatherly figure to, to me.
02:27 So, um, I think that if, if the Niners want to bring him back now, he might get
02:33 paid because he's how he's playing well.
02:35 But I, I think, you know, uh, he would love to stay on the line with Armstead.
02:39 Those guys are going to be lifelong friends.
02:41 I could see him signing a one or two year deal with the diners because I don't think
02:45 he's maybe, Hey, look, there's another what?
02:47 Five games left, four games left.
02:49 Plus the playoffs.
02:50 He could go crazy and he could get himself a big multi-year contract.
02:54 In which case Eric Armstead will send them postcards and they'll be friends.
02:57 They'll be pen pals.
02:59 It'll be okay.
02:59 But if that doesn't happen and he plays well, but not so well that
03:04 another team is going to poach him.
03:05 I can see the Niners bringing him back and say, look, we know you, you know us.
03:09 We can't give you exactly what you want, but we've given you a lot of money and
03:13 you're starting to make progress here.
03:15 Do you really need a change of scenery or do you need another year with us?
03:18 And Chris Kossaric, because if you have another healthy year and you go crazy
03:22 next year, you might just get a whole lot of money, a lot of money
03:26 from us or somewhere else.
03:27 I could see them doing it one more having, you know, the last dance.
03:30 Aaron Banks told me that, um, yesterday after the game, he's like, man, I go up
03:36 against this guy in practice and the strength is unbelievable.
03:39 So, uh, I mean, banks, a big boy in his own right.
03:43 He's about three 25 and naturally strong.
03:46 Um, and, and he just says that, you know, Ken law's strength is just like, he
03:50 doesn't go up against guys in the league that are that strong.
03:52 So it's all, you know, this is a big, this is a big, this is a huge moment in
03:57 his career because Eric's out, not going to play next week, probably now Hargrave's
04:02 out and they're going to lean on Javon and Givens and Kaliya.
04:07 And if these guys perform down the stretch, you know, the way it is in free agency.
04:12 If you're three, if you're a big defensive tackle who can play, you're going to get
04:16 paid.
04:16 So you're probably, your guess is probably right.
04:18 If he plays well, somebody is going to throw money in front of him.
04:22 That's going to probably mean that he's going to bolt.
04:24 Also, he could be a super bowl champion in two months.
04:28 That's another thing that could put a lot of money in these players' pockets.
04:31 I don't know what it is, but in sports, a lot of times when someone wins a
04:34 championship, they looked at it as like they have championship pedigree, you know,
04:38 let's bring him in here.
04:39 It'll change the culture.
04:39 Like, I don't know, maybe you will.
04:41 Remember when the warrior signed Derek Fisher?
04:43 Like, I don't think that's going to do anything for you, but I'm not comparing
04:46 a lot of Derek Fisher.
04:48 I'm saying he's going to have a big, he could have a really big thing on his
04:52 resume in a few months and he could see himself whether or not it contributes to
04:56 his bank account.
04:57 He could see himself as a contributor on a super bowl winning team.
04:59 That's huge.
04:59 And like, what a good end potentially to his tenure with the 49ers.
05:03 Like it wasn't all for nothing.
05:05 It was extremely painful and difficult, but it ends with him hoisting
05:11 a Lombardi trophy and feeling like he helped bring it here, bring it home.
05:16 That would be huge.
05:16 He's in the right frame of mind.
05:19 That's for sure.
05:19 And, and cause Eric has been a great coach.
05:22 I mean, come on, cause Eric's one of the best coaches in the game.
05:25 Um, and they've been, and he's been able to stay healthy and play with that
05:29 bended knee and play with leverage.
05:31 The guy plays with leverage.
05:33 It's pretty hard to uproot out of there.
05:35 But what I love about him is that he's playing, he's playing really smart
05:39 football, like you can't, um, you know, it's not like he he's anchoring inside,
05:44 but then he's coming off of blocks against the run the last couple of weeks.
05:48 He did it in Philly.
05:49 He did it again yesterday where he came off a block and made some
05:52 plays against the run and that's, that's great to see.
05:55 Yeah.
05:56 It's not like he's Solomon Thomas, who was just a bust.
05:58 Like Solomon Thomas was healthy and didn't have a position.
06:00 He's too small to play defensive tackle was not an edge rusher.
06:04 Kinlaw is a prototypical, typical defensive tackle.
06:08 He just was a bit of a project and has some injuries.
06:11 So he's in year four and it's coming together for him.
06:14 I mean, it took Eric Armstead a while too.
06:16 If you remember, he was not looked at as a big success early in his career.
06:19 I injured a lot and all of a sudden, right when it was time to get paid,
06:23 Eric Armstead took off and got paid by the 49ers.
06:27 So Javon now's the time.
06:30 Do it.
06:31 That's a great point about the Armstead thing.
06:33 I don't think people necessarily, everybody's got revisionist history.
06:36 He came out of Oregon.
06:38 He was six, seven, two 95 talented, but he didn't anchor against the run.
06:43 Now he's a functionally strong, technically sound, uh, monster
06:49 against the run and pass me.
06:51 I mean, Eric Armstead is
06:52 Solomon to the end.
06:53 Solomon to the end.
06:55 We're like, I don't know about you.
06:56 And then D'Amico was like, Hey, that's, that's over with right at Buckner spot.
07:01 Thank you very much.
07:02 Right.
07:04 Jack says Brock is second in passing yards.
07:06 Second and TDs Dak passed the ball a hundred more times.
07:09 That's a good point.
07:11 It's true.
07:12 That is a good point.
07:13 Beat man.
07:14 Pete Petey boy donates $9 Vinnie boy member for 27 months.
07:18 Wow.
07:19 Conehead member for 20 from the start.
07:22 That's what's up.
07:24 Dustin.
07:24 The Gail says one thing people aren't talking about Metcalf body slam Warner
07:27 and was getting flagged for before Warner shoved him down.
07:29 Metcalf shot first.
07:30 Okay.
07:32 Okay.
07:33 What did you see the Mike silver?
07:34 Did you see the Mike silver piece?
07:36 He says that Shanahan reportedly promised a Christmas present to any 49er who
07:40 could get under DK Metcalf skin.
07:42 Well, Fred Warner presser QC here.
07:48 Well, what the hell was that?
07:49 Three minute presser B beta.
07:51 Well, what three minute presser we talking about?
07:53 What are we talking about?
07:55 Larry who's got it better than us says Gregorius.
08:01 Greg member for 24 months.
08:02 Look at that beat man.
08:04 Pete Petey boy says shout out to you Kruger and a big up to my boy Iggy.
08:08 We still hitting that Fernando and SC let's go.
08:10 Ken Lon Debo.
08:11 Let's go.
08:12 Frank Tom Osh's grant.
08:14 Were you joking with BP about the hat?
08:16 Yeah, obviously you didn't realize that was, that was a joke.
08:20 Did I thought I was sitting right next to you when you asked the question
08:24 and to me, your tone was so, it was so obvious you were joking.
08:29 And the number of people that thought you weren't joking.
08:32 It's like, hello people.
08:34 I wanted Brock to think I was serious when I, do you think representing
08:40 the organization, where is this idiot going with this?
08:44 Matthew Sanders is a fast forward.
08:46 A few weeks can D line play Baltimore the same way as Philly sent for
08:49 enforcing to, uh, to play quarterback at a spy.
08:51 I'm not a believer in Lamar's ability to throw.
08:53 It's a lot quicker than hurts though.
08:56 The Niners made it clear.
08:57 Like if he has to back out and go out of the pocket, the back way,
09:00 he's not fast enough to do it.
09:01 I think Lamar is Kyler is.
09:03 So they may have to have a different game plan for those
09:05 quarterbacks for those quarterbacks.
09:07 Well, let's skip over my last super chat.
09:08 It was very important.
09:09 Oh, my bad.
09:10 Zaid, let me go back right now.
09:11 By the way, Lamar went for 70 yesterday on the ground and he ran for 6.4
09:17 carry and he ran 11 times.
09:19 So yeah, Lamar Lamar Lamar is he, he's not a runner like hurts.
09:25 He's a, he's not a runner.
09:26 Like many mobile quarterbacks.
09:28 He's a major runner.
09:30 He threw for three 16 and can run for a hundred at almost any point.
09:33 He's the most explosive ball carrier in the league.
09:36 I don't care if there's one person with the ball in their hands.
09:40 I want to watch run.
09:41 It's him.
09:41 I think that kid that he hands it to that kid that he hands it to, by the way, that
09:46 rookie out of East Carolina, Keaton Mitchell, he's real too.
09:50 He averaged over six yards of carry yesterday.
09:53 Zaid points out that Mitch Wachnowski is averaging 30 yards of carry.
09:56 They got to get him the ball.
09:57 Grant, please ask Laird to do his bulky impression.
10:00 You know, grant, I've always said, and I said it about you.
10:06 I've I've said it about your pot, your pops.
10:09 Neither of you guys have an ACL worth of damn.
10:12 And if you had torn it, I would've, I would've said your channel
10:16 would reach 80, 80,000 subs.
10:19 But right now without the, without a torn ACL, you're going to
10:22 hover around 73,000.
10:24 Oh, that's the way I see it.
