US Commerce Secretary Investigates Nvidia's China AI Accelerators, Vows To Closely Scrutinize Developing Technology
  • 4 months ago
The US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo has indicated that the US is examining details regarding three new AI accelerators being developed by Nvidia Corp for China, following the tightening of export controls to curb China's AI capabilities. Nvidia is in the process of developing China-specific chips after the US export controls restricted chips designed for China. Raimondo cautioned that the US could impose stricter controls on emerging technologies that might provide China with a competitive advantage in AI, vowing immediate action against any redesigns of chips that cross established boundaries. The commerce department declined to comment on if it will restrict Nvidia's new chips but reiterated it will continually update rules to respond to evolving threats to US technology dominance.
