Mostly cloudy skies for much of the UK with showers breaking out over central and southern regions of England with a risk of hail and thunder. Persistent rain affects northeast England and southeast Scotland.
Transcript
00:00 Good afternoon. Many of us will see heavy rain, some of us some thunder and potentially
00:05 some hail through this afternoon. So it's going to be a rather unsettled rest of the
00:09 day. You can see we've got a swirl of cloud wrapped around the UK. That's wrapped around
00:14 this area of low pressure. That area of low pressure will move eastwards through the morning
00:19 and into this afternoon and behind it we will see a lot of showers breaking out. We'll also
00:24 see a drier spell of weather moving in overnight but before then there is plenty of heavy rain.
00:29 The rain and showers will break out across more central areas into the afternoon. There's a risk of hail and thunder.
00:36 There could be some surface water on the roads as well as some pretty gusty winds.
00:40 There's also a risk of surface water across more north eastern areas of the UK, eastern Scotland, north eastern England
00:46 where the ground is well saturated already and as a result there is a rain warning enforced through the course of the night
00:51 and into the tomorrow morning as well. Under this cloud and rain across north eastern areas it will feel quite cool.
00:57 Further south though it's fairly mild for the time of year but if you do get caught in any of those showers it's not going to feel particularly pleasant.
01:04 The rain across the north east will slowly sink southwards throughout the course of the evening so it does turn somewhat drier
01:10 by the morning across much of Scotland but ahead of that area of rain we do see a lot of low clouds sink into more eastern areas
01:17 and south eastern areas of the UK so it will be quite a dull and damp start to the day across more eastern areas.
01:24 Quite a different picture though across the north west for parts of Northern Ireland and the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.
01:29 It could be a cold and frosty start to the day and that clear and drier weather will become a bit more widespread through the course of Wednesday
01:37 spreading into many central and southern areas of Scotland as well as much of Northern Ireland
01:41 and into western areas of England and Wales by the afternoon.
01:45 However in the east it will stay quite dull I think through much of the day tomorrow.
01:49 Some drizzly rain breaking out by the afternoon too and we've got more of a northerly breeze through the course of tomorrow
01:55 that's going to be feeding in more moisture to pep up that rain across the south east into the afternoon
02:00 but it will also bring a chillier feel.
02:02 So 7 or 8 degrees cooler in the north west but with more sunshine and quite light winds it won't feel too bad at all.
02:09 Another change though comes Thursday where the front pushes eastwards across the country
02:15 and the rain off that front will fizzle out as high pressure builds from the south
02:19 introducing some quite mild air for the time of year by the weekend.
02:23 So it's looking like a fairly dry weekend with temperatures rising by day and night.
