00:00 My name is Gerhard Liebmann. I play the leading role in this movie called
00:06 Sergeant Major Eismeier and I'm Eismeier.
00:11 I'm Luca Dimic. I don't speak French very well, but I play the role of Mario Falak.
00:22 Mario is a very bold, intelligent young guy who is openly gay.
00:28 He doesn't struggle with his sexuality. He has no problem with it.
00:32 And he likes to test the boundaries of Eismeier and to break them.
00:37 The most important thing for me was to get to know the real Eismeier.
00:43 We met each other two years before we shot.
00:46 And slowly but constantly there was a relationship built between us.
00:52 And this was to feel his energy, to speak with him about his career,
00:58 to see how they work with each other, how they handle their relationship.
01:05 And this was the most important thing for me.
01:21 So when David, the director, gave us the opportunity to meet the original ones,
01:25 at first I was unsure because I thought maybe the meeting is going to limit
01:30 my fantasy of the character out of the script.
01:34 But then in the end it was actually the most helpful thing because then I understood
01:39 the dynamic between those two guys, how they work together,
01:42 and also Mario's motivation to be in the army and to make a career as a soldier.
01:51 For me, I think everybody could find his own message in the movie,
01:55 but for me it's like to find your own identity and to live your life you feel inside.
02:03 You only have this one.
02:05 Also in an environment which seems to be very against your identity, maybe.
02:13 So you should defend your identity also in such circumstances.
02:19 It's important to fight for it because if you don't, it will fall back at some point in your life.
02:27 And I think this is very important.
02:30 We had already a French premiere in Les Arcs, so we showed the movie there
02:37 and we won the Audience Award.
02:40 And this is actually what surprised me more because if you come to Paris and Chéri Chéri,
02:46 it's a queer community and maybe they like the movie.
02:50 But I was really surprised that we got the Audience Award in Les Arcs
02:54 where the people are not living in a big city but this story seems to move them and they liked it.
03:01 So we love the French audience. I do.
