00:00 Tara, don't you think that being fit and fab shouldn't just mean looking good and feeling great,
00:04 both inside and out while we're young?
00:06 Absolutely, Maggie. Everyone should be fit and fab at any age.
00:09 They say that age is not a number but a state of mind.
00:11 And since life doesn't end when you're in your 20s, 30s or 40s,
00:15 then the quest for self-improvement shouldn't either.
00:17 I'm Tara Lecaros.
00:18 And I'm Maggie Wilson and this is Fit and Fab, your ultimate guide to being a better you.

00:59 We've got capoeira, save versus splurge shopping tips,
01:02 ways to speed up your metabolism, a feature on hair repair,
01:06 and workouts that will tone those flabby arms.
01:09 And guess who tried out capoeira for her second time?
01:11 So, did you meet any hot Brazilians?
01:13 Yes, I did. I met one hot Brazilian ghost.
01:16 Just one? And he's a ghost? Why?
01:18 No, because the name of the instructor is phantasma.
01:20 It means ghost in Portuguese.
01:22 They have these Brazilian nicknames for all the people who take capoeira.
01:26 And then, so how was your second time?
01:27 It was okay. It was much better than the first time because I was more prepared now.
01:30 I knew what I was getting into.
01:32 What does capoeira mean exactly?
01:34 Capoeira is actually a Brazilian martial arts dance form.
01:37 It's a really big craze here in the Philippines now.
01:39 A lot of people are using it for exercise.
01:41 Okay, so did you have fun doing it?
01:43 Yes, I had so much fun but it was so challenging.
01:46 I was really challenged.
01:47 It may look easy. You might think it's just a dance.
01:50 But really, it's so much more difficult than it looks like.
01:52 Watch this.
01:54 Capoeira is a 400-year-old African and Brazilian martial art
02:04 that blends music, dance, singing and acrobatics
02:07 to create a holistic approach to teaching self-defense.
02:11 And perhaps the best ambassador capoeira has had in the Philippines
02:15 is Alessandro Guadalupe Suarez Coquero,
02:17 aka Fantasma.
02:19 Fantasma is Brazilian to the core
02:23 and has been teaching capoeira in the Philippines
02:25 for almost four years now.
02:27 Everything you learn during the session,
02:30 you should try to apply to the game of capoeira.
02:32 That's the whole purpose of training capoeira.
02:35 Like, learning and try to put on the game.
02:38 What's the most interesting thing about this martial art?
02:43 Each capoeira class, or roda,
02:44 is accompanied by playing songs and instruments.
02:48 In the sport, music is very important
02:50 as it sets the vibe and rhythm of each game.
02:53 Roda in Portuguese means a wheel.
02:55 It's a circle where you have the instruments.
02:59 Demanding that circle with music and the instruments,
03:03 once again, you'll be showing what kind of capoeira,
03:07 what kind of game the students should play.
03:09 The songs are often accompanied by percussion instruments
03:14 like the tambourine, bells, and most importantly,
03:17 the one-stringed instrument called the berimbau,
03:19 brought all the way from Africa.
03:21 The instruments in capoeira, it's very important.
03:25 Like, the instruments will mean what kind of game
03:28 you should play in capoeira.
03:30 So, the instruments will be the soul of capoeira.
03:33 Capoeira doesn't just focus on injuring the opponent,
03:42 but rather emphasizes skill.
03:44 Capoeiristas often prefer to show the movement
03:47 without completing it.
03:48 If an opponent cannot dodge a slow attack,
03:51 then to them, it is pointless to launch a faster one.
03:53 Each attack that comes in gives players a chance
03:57 to practice evasive techniques
03:58 and gives everyone else a chance to appreciate
04:01 this dance-like fighting art.
04:03 Well, before, I tried a lot of sports,
04:05 like tennis, swimming.
04:07 I doubled in a little bit of this, a little bit of that.
04:11 But I wanted to do something different.
04:14 So, when I entered the gym,
04:16 this percussion music was playing.
04:19 It was just that, it was different, right?
04:21 So, I tried it, and from then on, I fell in love with it.
04:24 Physically, capoeira is one of the most different sports
04:29 because it challenges you in so many aspects.
04:33 This requires you to use everything,
04:35 your shoulders, from your legs,
04:37 to even, like, to learn how to sing.
04:40 A lot of things attracted me to capoeira.
04:42 The music, the martial arts, the culture, the history.
04:46 There's so much that you can learn,
04:48 and it's just so overwhelming sometimes.
04:51 And that's one of the main reasons why I love it so much.
04:53 In terms of mindset, what kind of mindset should there be?
04:56 You have to put your 100% into it.
04:58 You should have no fear.
05:02 Like, you have to try everything.
05:05 I know it looks, in the beginning, it's very intimidating.
05:08 It's very intimidating.
05:09 I was the one who started, and I was really intimidated.
05:11 But then again, you're already here,
05:14 so might as well try it and then give it a shot,
05:16 and you'll be really surprised that it's not that difficult.
05:19 The students' passion for the sport
05:28 was enough to get me revved up to try it out for myself.
05:31 You don't have to possess any background in martial arts,
05:34 gymnastics, or sports to be able to start playing capoeira
05:37 because everything you need will be taught in class.
05:39 The "jinga," translated as swing or rocking back and forth,
05:43 is the fundamental movement of capoeira.
05:45 - From the parallel position. - Okay, parallel position.
05:48 Then you put one of your legs at the back.
05:51 - The same side, you put the leg back. - Okay.
05:53 I'll be holding myself here.
05:55 In doing the "jinga,"
05:57 two people often appear to be dancing together
05:59 rather than fighting.
06:00 It's easy because it's step-back.
06:06 But once you're doing it, it can get confusing.
06:08 Like me, my hands are always facing the opposite direction
06:11 when I'm doing the "jinga."
06:14 It builds self-confidence.
06:15 Because once you feel like you can do it,
06:17 you can continue doing it.
06:19 Once I got it right,
06:21 I moved on to learning other skills like the "esquiva."
06:24 Okay, so from here, we go down to this side.
06:27 I will try to make my body go to my side here.
06:30 - Touch the floor? - Yeah, touch the floor.
06:34 So, from here, the arm will go back,
06:37 - always looking forward. - Okay.
06:39 - Does it have to be too high? - No, no, no.
06:52 - Of course, it doesn't have to be too high. - Okay.
06:54 Even if it's low.
06:55 I was also taught attack moves like the kick
06:58 and the half-moon kick,
06:59 which were harder than I thought.
07:00 The most challenging for me was the half-moon kick
07:04 where your leg has to be straight.
07:06 And you have to have your feet flat out when you kick
07:11 because you have to follow a particular form.
07:14 All these moves are meant to go in a sequence in capoeira,
07:17 which my Phantasma professor gamely demoed.
07:20 [music]
07:22 There. He's going to feed me.
07:39 He's a really good capoeirist.
07:43 He said, "There's no beginner."
07:45 Basic.
07:46 So that you don't feel bad inside.
07:49 Beginner. Basic is basic.
07:51 There. Start this.
07:52 It's good that he's non-contact.
07:54 He told me many times when I was kicking
07:57 how good I was at flying.
07:59 I'm already getting wet.
08:02 I'm just relaxing my cardio.
08:04 It's just three moves, but it's so hard.
08:07 Even though your body is a capoeira dancer,
08:11 it's really hard.
08:12 And I think your legs are good today.
08:14 Leg workouts are good.
08:16 [exhales]
08:17 [music]
08:19 I definitely recommend it.
08:29 I was encouraged to take up capoeira again,
08:32 especially when I saw that these people are working,
08:34 these people are in school, but they take the time.
08:37 And it's very attractive to me
08:38 because it really looks holistic.
08:41 It's not just a workout,
08:42 but you learn a new language, you learn music,
08:44 and I can see from them that they're really family.
08:47 Being fit need not be obtained from a gym class,
08:51 on a treadmill, or within the four corners of an arena.
08:54 You can be fit and learn the perfect blend
08:56 of martial arts, game, and dance all in one class, capoeira.
08:59 So I hope you guys try it out
09:01 and see the benefits for yourself.
09:02 Wow, Tere, that looked like so much fun.
09:05 It really was fun, Maggie.
09:06 You should try it sometime.
09:07 I know, I should.
09:08 So what was the best part about it, though?
09:09 The music.
09:10 It was so fun.
09:11 They teach you how to play live music.
09:12 The instruments, they teach you how to chant,
09:14 it's like you're in a carnival.
09:15 It's like Rio de Janeiro.
09:16 Wow, so what part of your body hurts after trying it?
09:19 This, and this.
09:19 It hurts.
09:20 There's a burn after, but the pain,
09:22 like two days later,
09:23 you know that your body really worked out.
09:24 Well, hey, no pain, no gain, right?
09:26 So if you guys try out a new sport like capoeira,
09:28 the way Tere did,
09:29 it will surely do wonders for your body.

09:52 Tere, I already know what you splurge on,
09:54 but for the sake of our viewers,
09:55 what do you splurge on?
09:57 I splurge on bags.
09:58 Bags, bags, bags.
09:59 Too many Louis Vuitton bags.
10:00 No, really.
10:01 There! You have a lot of things!
10:03 I save on other things, too.
10:04 Like what?
10:05 Like everything else.
10:06 No, just kidding.
10:07 My accessories, really.
10:08 I try to find good accessories that are cheap.
10:10 Watch out for that.
10:11 And you, I'm sure you spend on something also.
10:13 Okay, I'm guilty.
10:14 I spend too much money on shoes
10:16 because I have huge feet
10:17 and it's really hard for me to find shoes.
10:19 So I think it's worth it, of course.
10:20 And I save on tank tops, you know, basic tees
10:23 because we can get them anywhere.
10:24 Exactly.
10:24 They're really easy to find.
10:25 Since everyone is penny-pinching nowadays,
10:27 we need to be more conscientious
10:28 on what to spend on and what to save on.
10:30 That's right.
10:30 So we asked our experts to give us a load on
10:33 on which wardrobe staples are and aren't
10:35 worth our hard-earned money.
10:37 Clothes, clothes, and more clothes.
10:39 We all want them.
10:41 But is your buying power affected
10:42 by the unending price increase of prime commodities?
10:45 Worry not, because here at Fit and Fab,
10:48 we'll show you how to spend your money wisely.
10:51 Admin it, ladies.
10:53 We oftentimes spend on things we want
10:55 rather than what we really need.
10:57 Sometimes, I really do buy clothes
11:00 that are not really expensive.
11:02 I buy them because I want to spend
11:04 on things that I really need.
11:06 I buy clothes that I don't really need.
11:08 But there are clothes that look like this.
11:12 Like this.
11:14 Or this.
11:15 I buy them sometimes.
11:17 Who said fashion was cheap, right?
11:20 But did you know that if you save on some items,
11:22 you'll actually have more money to spend
11:24 on some more important ones?
11:25 Let's say your wardrobe must-haves.
11:27 The basic must-haves are a good pair of jeans,
11:31 work shoes, work bag,
11:35 undergarments are important,
11:36 and basic white shirts.
11:40 Basic pieces are a spend-must
11:45 because they are meant to be your wardrobe staple
11:47 for the rest of your fashionable life.
11:49 So splurging on them is like investing
11:51 on really good clothes.
11:52 Number one is a good pair of jeans.
11:55 It doesn't have to be trendy,
11:58 like, you know, skinny or flared or anything.
12:00 Just a classic straight cut
12:02 'cause that will really, you know,
12:05 stand the test of time.
12:07 Basic pieces in Topshop are a spend-must
12:10 because they're meant to be your wardrobe staple
12:12 for the rest of your fashionable life.
12:14 So splurging on them is like investing
12:16 on really good clothes.
12:17 Jeans spend, definitely.
12:20 Especially if you find a pair that's in a dark wash
12:23 and in a classic cut
12:25 and something that hugs your butt in the right way.
12:27 So this one is a casual look.
12:29 And then if you want to make it
12:32 you know, from casual to corporate
12:36 or, you know, more serious functions,
12:39 just layer on a blazer.
12:40 And make sure that the blazer, it's tapered.
12:46 It's not, it's not loose.
12:47 It's not too big for you.
12:50 And then there.
12:53 And change your purse or a clutch
12:56 and you get an instant upgrade.
13:00 Black pants will never go out of style.
13:02 Depending on how you wear them,
13:04 they can be dressed up or dressed down
13:06 to suit any occasion.
13:07 So we say spend.
13:09 Your undergarments are just as important as your clothes.
13:22 So don't skimp on your bras and panties.
13:28 Shoes are expensive,
13:30 especially if they are the branded kind.
13:32 But on days when you feel a bit emaldific,
13:35 zero in on shoes that are made of genuine leather,
13:37 well-crafted, and built to last.
13:39 Spending on shoes saves you from corns,
13:42 colossus, and ingrown toenails.
13:44 For work shoes, spend.
13:45 Because in the office environment,
13:48 you have to look polished all the time.
13:49 And I think the easiest way to ruin an outfit
13:52 is if you have bad shoes.
13:54 If you spend for shoes for the office,
13:55 it's something that you'll be using all the time,
13:57 definitely.
13:58 But if shoes aren't your thing,
14:00 you should have the same mentality
14:02 when it comes to buying bags.
14:04 Go for quality.
14:05 Work, bag, spend.
14:08 Because you'll be using it every day.
14:09 And you need something that's sturdy.
14:12 You need something that's made of quality material.
14:16 Well, if you were to spend on a work bag,
14:19 it should be something classic also.
14:21 I think another guideline for buying a bag
14:23 is that if you can pass it on to your daughter
14:26 or your sister.
14:28 And let's not forget that every woman
14:30 should have that little black dress in their closets.
14:32 Well, the last one would be
14:33 a really nice, sexy little black dress.
14:36 Because you can use it also for work,
14:39 for going out.
14:39 And it's just a classic piece
14:41 that you should always have in your closet
14:43 to pull out for any occasion that you have.
14:46 Okay, so this is your classic little black dress
14:50 that's good for--
14:51 Well, you can wear it for work or for parties,
14:53 to a date, night out with the girls.
14:56 So if you look at it, it's simple, it's classic,
14:59 it's worth spending on.
15:01 Just add the necklace like that
15:03 and you're all glammed up.
15:05 And if you want it more casual,
15:06 just layer on this cute cardigan.
15:09 And you're good to go for the day.
15:14 And if you want also,
15:16 the classic tote bag.
15:19 It carries anything.
15:21 Your notebook, your books, your pens,
15:24 toiletries, cosmetics.
15:26 But don't go overboard
15:27 and spend on everything you see.
15:29 When it comes to trendy items,
15:30 our experts say, save.
15:32 So as compared to the classic pieces
15:36 that you should really splurge on
15:37 because they're investment pieces,
15:39 the trendier ones,
15:40 you should try to save a little bit
15:42 because like this printed dress,
15:44 it's very big this season.
15:45 Prints and florals are big.
15:47 But then after next season,
15:50 you know, you don't really want another.
15:51 They're very outdated.
15:52 And if you just spend a lot of money on one,
15:55 you'll probably use it like once, twice.
15:57 And then after that,
15:58 you know, you probably put it
15:59 at the back of your closet.
16:00 So it's not very wise to spend a lot of money
16:03 on out there pieces such as this one.
16:05 For big prints such as this one,
16:07 animal print was big last year
16:10 and even up to this year.
16:11 But then once you wear it to an event
16:14 or to a party,
16:15 everyone's going to know that you already wore it.
16:16 So it's best to save.
16:18 Unless you often go out to formal dinners,
16:21 you would want to save on evening dresses
16:23 and evening shoes too.
16:25 But to be fit and fab,
16:26 the basics just aren't enough.
16:28 Whether you plan to save or splurge,
16:33 department stores offer a variety of clothes
16:35 to choose from.
16:35 It might be a waste if you go for the real leather kind.
16:40 So look, this is only 110 pesos.
16:43 So it's such a steal.
16:45 This is only 200 pesos
16:48 and you can buy other colors
16:49 and you can use it over and over again.
16:51 And when the trend is already out,
16:53 then you can just switch on to the next one.
16:55 For much cheaper.
16:57 You just have to make sure that you know
16:58 which trends will last.
17:00 Another smart strategy is to purchase clothes
17:02 that you can mix and match.
17:04 So when it comes to mixing and matching,
17:05 I think it's very important to keep in mind
17:08 that you have to coordinate.
17:10 Not just because your top is, let's say, pink,
17:12 your pants have to be pink,
17:14 your bag has to be pink.
17:15 No, you just have to mix and match the colors.
17:17 And it's, you know,
17:18 especially if you have cheap pieces to work with
17:21 that are trendy,
17:22 then I think it's a lot of fun.
17:25 If you need it, you want it,
17:26 and you'll definitely use it,
17:28 then go ahead and spend for it.
17:30 Go for brand names that you're sure
17:31 will give you the comfort and quality you need.
17:33 So next time you go to the mall,
17:36 be a wise shopper.
17:37 Think and make a simple choice
17:39 whether to spend or to save.
17:40 Metabolism plays a huge part in losing weight.
17:48 But as we age, it gets slower.
17:50 Find out how you can speed up your metabolism
17:52 up next on Fit and Fab.
17:54 And later, bring out your fab side
17:55 with our hair repair tips.
17:57 Stay tuned!
17:57 Okay, Tara, did you notice that
18:01 no matter how hard we work out
18:03 or no matter how much we diet,
18:05 we never seem to lose the weight we want to lose?
18:07 Ay, naku Maggie, I totally agree with you.
18:08 But I don't think it's because
18:09 we don't work out hard enough,
18:11 or we don't exercise enough, or diet enough.
18:12 It's probably because our weight loss plateau
18:14 is determined by how fast or slow our metabolism is.
18:16 I must agree with you on that.
18:18 But the question is, Maggie,
18:19 how do we speed up our metabolism
18:20 to lose weight more effectively?
18:22 Watch this.
18:23 (upbeat music)
18:28 You cut calories and you exercise.
18:30 Your calories out are greater than your calories in.
18:33 You should be losing fat.
18:34 If you aren't, perhaps you're not paying attention
18:36 to an often forgotten factor of fat loss,
18:39 your metabolism.
18:39 Metabolism is the amount of energy
18:45 or even the calories that your body burns
18:47 to maintain itself.
18:48 Now, your body is consistently burning calories
18:52 in order to keep you going.
18:54 Regardless whether you're seated,
18:55 you're standing, or even jogging,
18:57 or even while you sleep,
18:58 your metabolism is working.
19:00 And this actually helps in terms of
19:02 making your heart beat faster
19:03 or even your kidney functions.
19:05 Metabolic rate is the speed at which
19:09 our body burns calories.
19:11 Age, heredity, gender, and proportion of lean body mass
19:14 are the factors that determine
19:16 how high or low our metabolism is.
19:18 And it is important to know
19:20 that not everyone burns calories at the same rate.
19:23 They say that men generally burn
19:26 more calories at rest than women.
19:27 And the more muscle you have,
19:30 the higher your metabolic rate tends to be.
19:32 Some people boast of having a fast metabolic rate
19:35 while others complain of having a slow one.
19:37 My main goal of losing weight
19:45 is to get the best job right now
19:49 because I am really preparing
19:52 for the future of my son, of course.
19:55 And I know that physical appearance
19:59 makes a great impact upon applying for a job.
20:03 And seeing those extra pounds
20:06 in her body in the mirror each day
20:08 doesn't make her feel any good.
20:10 You lose your self-confidence.
20:13 That's number one.
20:14 Second, it really takes time for me
20:17 to choose what I wear, from basic clothes
20:20 to casual wear, from designs to colors.
20:23 And third, instead of getting compliments
20:28 from other people, you get to have criticism
20:33 from family members and friends.
20:36 Which is why Karen took matters
20:38 into her own hands and created a diet
20:40 and workout program of her own.
20:42 Banana and water for breakfast.
20:46 Fish or veggies and a cup of fries for lunch.
20:49 And just plain wheat bread for dinner.
20:53 I usually exercise four times a week.
20:58 What I do is I play with my son.
21:01 We go to the half court, play badminton.
21:06 But none of these seem to be helpful
21:09 in her weight loss dream.
21:10 So far, I see little results
21:14 than what I've expected.
21:16 I lose maybe two to five pounds only.
21:20 But what I target the most is 10 pounds.
21:22 And when it comes to, it really takes time
21:26 for my waist.
21:27 I only lost two inches on my waist.
21:31 After the age of 30, gradually
21:34 your metabolism, it slows down.
21:36 That's mainly because of what we call
21:38 as the human growth hormone.
21:40 Now this hormone, mainly it's less secreted
21:43 by your system already.
21:45 What happens is that mainly
21:47 since it's less secreted, it's supposed
21:49 to help in terms of maintaining
21:51 lean muscles in our system.
21:53 Though some factors affecting metabolic rate
21:55 can't be changed, the good news is
21:57 you can rev up the metabolism you were born with.
21:59 And self-prescribed low calorie diets
22:06 like Karen's will just make
22:07 one's metabolism slower.
22:09 The key to speeding up metabolism
22:11 is to eat a little but more frequently
22:13 during the day.
22:15 Aim for five to six small meals a day.
22:18 It will give you the energy you need
22:20 throughout the day and help you burn calories.
22:22 Whereas calories eaten in bulk meals
22:24 tend to get stored as fat.
22:26 Make sure you have a balanced diet.
22:28 That means not just focusing
22:29 on just one single food item,
22:31 not just the protein.
22:32 You should always include at least
22:34 five servings of fruits
22:35 and even have vegetables in your diet.
22:37 Drink eight to 10 glasses of water daily.
22:40 Water is important for your body
22:42 to carry out every function
22:43 and that includes running your metabolism.
22:46 Another essential in speeding up metabolism
22:49 is to increase physical activity.
22:51 Take up a sport to get a good cardio workout.
22:53 Or you could also do aerobics or weight training
22:55 to help burn away those excess fats.
22:57 A person's sleep can contribute
22:59 to increasing your metabolism
23:01 mainly because our body actually regenerates
23:03 or starts building muscles
23:05 even when we're resting.
23:07 So it's important for an individual
23:09 to have at least eight hours of sleep.
23:11 You can also try natural metabolic boosters
23:13 like green tea,
23:14 which contains antioxidants,
23:16 spices like chili or curries,
23:18 and high fiber foods like oats and whole grains.
23:21 There is indeed hope.
23:24 Just follow these simple lifestyle tips
23:26 and make minor adjustments to your diet
23:27 and it will surely help you increase your metabolism
23:30 in a manner that is safe, natural and easy.
23:32 Hair care has come a long way
23:38 and we're here to tell you all about it.
23:40 Coming up next.
23:41 And later, workouts to tone your arms
23:43 and make them thinner.
23:44 Stay tuned.
23:45 Stay tuned.
23:46 Oh, Max, I have a question.
23:49 I have to be honest.
23:50 How often do you torture your hair?
23:52 Um, every day?
23:53 Why every day?
23:55 It's too much.
23:55 Because I shoot almost every day
23:57 and I always blow dry it.
23:59 I always have my hair planted.
24:00 It's torture.
24:01 Yes.
24:01 How about you?
24:02 I only shoot once a week,
24:03 which isn't as often as you.
24:05 But I think it still gets pretty torture.
24:07 You know, curling iron, blow dry.
24:09 So how often do you go to the salon
24:11 to get your hair treated?
24:12 Not very often because I'm really busy.
24:14 I go once every two to three months.
24:16 Really?
24:16 Yes.
24:16 How about you?
24:17 I try to go at least once a month.
24:19 But nowadays, hot oil treatments
24:21 aren't good enough for our hair.
24:22 I know.
24:22 And we thought cutting and all that
24:25 would be enough.
24:26 But it's not.
24:26 But obviously, we're not experts
24:28 when it comes to hair care and repair.
24:30 That's why we turned to our FinFab experts
24:32 to school us on how to take care of our hair.
24:34 How many of us girls are wishing
24:42 for that perfect long and shiny hair?
24:44 You've probably spent hours
24:53 in front of a mirror,
24:54 combing and brushing your hair
24:55 until you get that radiant shine.
24:57 Sadly, not too many
24:59 get that perfect hair come true.
25:00 To most of us,
25:02 a bad hair day comes just too often for comfort.
25:04 Such in the dilemma of Ray and Nika,
25:08 both print ad models,
25:09 at first glance,
25:10 you may think their long, straight hair
25:12 is to die for.
25:13 But look closely.
25:14 Tangles and split ends
25:16 are just two of their many hair problems.
25:19 I notice that my hair
25:21 has a lot of falling hair every day.
25:24 It has a lot of tangles.
25:25 It has a lot of tangles.
25:28 I noticed that when my hair started to fall,
25:33 I started to color my hair.
25:35 My hair problem is
25:37 that it gets damaged.
25:39 It's full of split ends
25:40 and waves.
25:43 I'm used to going out
25:46 so I have a place to go.
25:47 I always have to go to the salon
25:50 so my hair gets tangled.
25:51 Too much sun,
25:53 heat from blow dryers,
25:54 curlers or irons,
25:56 hair coloring and heavy treatments
25:57 may cause your hair to break and fall,
25:59 like Ray and Nika's.
26:01 When a person colors their hair,
26:07 in a way,
26:08 their hair's pores open.
26:10 So it's more susceptible to damage.
26:12 When this happens,
26:15 we usually go to the salons
26:16 to trim our split ends.
26:17 Or opt for the usual hot oil or hair spa
26:20 to condition our hair.
26:21 But hair experts say
26:23 that our regular regimen
26:24 no longer alleviates the amount of stress
26:26 our hair goes through.
26:27 Before,
26:29 people's hair
26:30 didn't color
26:31 or get ribbons
26:33 or get digital perms.
26:35 There were things that made it messy.
26:37 So basically,
26:38 there were still a lot of virgin hair
26:39 at that time,
26:40 or normal hair.
26:41 Now, the treatments are specific.
26:43 So the hot oil that we know before,
26:45 which is the regular oil treatment,
26:47 has evolved into different types
26:49 depending on the need of the hair.
26:51 The treatments have to go inside,
26:55 internally,
26:55 into the hair shaft
26:56 in order to repair the hair
26:57 and make it strong once more.
26:59 And during the olden days,
27:03 when you say,
27:03 "Oh, I just have an ordinary hot oil treatment,"
27:06 those are not restructuring treatments.
27:08 Those are treatments just to provide
27:10 glossiness and shininess externally.
27:13 With all the stress and pressures
27:14 in our lifestyles today,
27:16 regular trimming and hot oil hair treatments
27:18 are not good enough
27:19 to bring our hairs back to life.
27:21 Good thing there are numerous salons
27:22 willing to help us out.
27:23 So we took Rhea and Nika
27:26 to Tony and Guy Essentials Salon
27:28 to find out what intensive treatments
27:29 are best for their damaged hair.
27:31 For Rhea,
27:34 since her main problem is falling hair,
27:37 for me, the cause of that is
27:40 she has very fine hair.
27:41 Her hair is thin.
27:42 So she's more vulnerable to damage.
27:45 So it's easy for her hair to fall off.
27:47 I suggest we have a mocarina scalp treatment
27:51 because her scalp needs to be cleaned
27:55 so there's no blockage to her hair.
27:57 There's a machine we use
27:59 that we spray it on the hair
28:01 to clean the scalp.
28:03 At the same time,
28:04 we put a cream.
28:06 It goes hand in hand
28:08 to intensify the process.
28:12 This mocarina cream
28:13 are made of deep sea ingredients.
28:15 And this special machine
28:17 acts like a steamer
28:18 to keep the treatment locked in.
28:20 What we're going to do to Nika
28:27 is we're going to treat her hair
28:29 since she has damaged hair
28:31 from constant ironing of the hair.
28:35 Then we section the hair.
28:37 We section it according to the hair.
28:40 We section it accordingly
28:42 when we apply the cream.
28:43 Our concentration in application of the cream,
28:48 which is S-Factor,
28:49 is on the mid-lengths to ends
28:51 because that's the driest part.
28:52 After their intensive treatments,
28:54 Rhea and Nika's hair no doubt look softer,
28:57 livelier, and healthier.
28:58 But if you want to treat your hair
29:05 to a real hair spa,
29:06 head on over to Karestas Institute by Essa,
29:09 which has a more scientific method
29:11 of repairing our damaged hair.
29:12 They believe that each one of us
29:15 has a different hair type.
29:16 The first thing we do
29:17 is give them a scalp and hair diagnosis.
29:20 We have a camera in the computer
29:24 which can scan the condition
29:27 of your scalp and hair.
29:29 So we have a list or a menu
29:32 of intensive treatments
29:34 specifically stating
29:36 what particular treatment
29:38 those treatments are for.
29:40 So if there's a problematic scalp,
29:43 then we suggest a treatment for the scalp.
29:46 If there is a problem with the hair,
29:48 then we suggest a particular treatment
29:50 for the hair.
29:51 Okay, so I'm about to go inside
29:53 to get my hair and scalp checked
29:55 to see how healthy
29:56 or how damaged my scalp is
29:57 and so that they can decide
29:58 which treatment to use to treat my hair.
30:00 Wait.
30:00 What's that, Es?
30:03 Where's your camera?
30:04 Oh my God, this looks so nice!
30:07 My scalp was put under a magnifying camera.
30:10 Your scalp is good.
30:13 It doesn't have any problem.
30:14 Oh, my scalp is good
30:16 but it doesn't look so pretty.
30:17 And after that, it was my hair's turn.
30:20 Oh, so unflattering.
30:24 It's kind of weird.
30:27 It's like a gel that...
30:29 My hair's sticking out.
30:31 I don't know.
30:32 I can't explain it.
30:33 It's scary to look at.
30:35 It's not bad.
30:36 Okay, so I just found out
30:39 that my hair is damaged
30:41 which I already knew
30:42 because I always blow dry my hair
30:43 and I always get it planted.
30:45 But my scalp is healthy.
30:47 So now, I'm gonna go into the locker room
30:49 and change into my robe and flip-flops
30:51 so that we can get started with the hair treatment
30:54 and there's a matching massage.
30:56 Okay, so I'll be right back.
30:59 Vita Cement contains ingredients
31:03 that rebuilds the internal structure
31:05 of damaged hair.
31:05 Another treatment for colored hair
31:07 was applied to my hair,
31:09 topped with a steamer.
31:10 This is guaranteed to condition
31:12 and moisturize my scalp,
31:13 making my hair softer and more vibrant.
31:15 Oh, wow.
31:17 I got mixed up with a steaming machine.
31:18 It's like...
31:19 It's like...
31:21 It's like it's blowing smoke
31:25 but from my head.
31:26 I got mixed up.
31:29 Kerastase Institute has many other
31:33 different hair products
31:34 and treatments to repair different hair problems
31:36 such as dry, falling, frizzy, or aging hair.
31:40 So it's really just a matter of knowing
31:41 what your hair's SOS is.
31:43 Going to the salon that knows your hair type
31:45 and condition is important to ensure
31:47 you get the appropriate treatment
31:49 needed for your hair and scalp.
31:51 Women should bear in mind
31:54 that it needs more than just
31:56 the ordinary shampoos and conditioners
31:58 that they use for their hair.
31:59 You really have to work at it
32:02 in order to have beautiful hair.
32:05 Yes, taking care of our hair
32:06 may be a serious business,
32:08 but a trip to the salon might be fun too.
32:10 The whole process of repairing my damaged hair
32:13 didn't take long.
32:14 45 minutes was all it took.
32:16 Then my hair looked more alive,
32:18 bouncier, and definitely healthier.
32:20 Taking care of your hair means knowing
32:26 and having the right hair treatments
32:27 for your hair type.
32:28 So go ahead, bring the luster and life
32:31 back to your crowning glory.
32:33 Work out to the tone of your arms
32:34 and make them look thinner.
32:35 Up next on Fit and Fab's Q&A.
32:37 Stay tuned.
32:38 Tonight's Q&A comes from our Fit and Fab viewer,
32:43 Hazel Yumo.
32:44 Dear Fit and Fab,
32:45 your show is very helpful to me.
32:47 Please feature exercises
32:48 to make my arms look slimmer
32:50 because that's my big problem.
32:52 Thanks and keep up the good work.
32:54 Well, Hazel, you ask and of course we answer.
32:56 Here's what the experts recommend
32:58 if you want to turn your flabby arms
33:00 into a flabby arm.
33:01 Flabby arms into something more absolutely fab.
33:04 Ever wonder how these stars
33:12 got their beautifully sculpted arms?
33:14 Well, you don't have to be a celebrity
33:21 to have trim and toned arms within your reach.
33:24 The upper arms compose of the biceps brachii
33:27 on the front part,
33:28 the triceps brachii on the backside,
33:32 and then the forearm,
33:33 which are the wrist flexors
33:37 and the wrist extensors.
33:38 Most people,
33:39 they start with the compound workouts first
33:42 before they really isolate the arms.
33:44 Women are concerned with having flabby arms
33:48 or saggy arms,
33:50 so they have to lower the overall body fat.
33:53 So they have to do an hour and a half of workout
33:57 comprising the cardio and then the weightlifting,
34:02 and then they will also have to take care of their diet
34:06 or the food they take in.
34:07 My typical schedule is,
34:09 normally I have school every day.
34:10 It's mostly really studying and preparing for school.
34:13 That's what keeps me busy.
34:16 And if Yas weren't so busy burning the midnight oil,
34:20 she would love to burn off some calories
34:22 and the unwanted flab on her arms.
34:24 I'd like to make it more firm.
34:27 Um, there.
34:29 Because, what is it,
34:30 it's not that, it's not that trim.
34:33 So gear up and get ready
34:34 because we've got the right moves
34:36 to get you looking armed and fabulous.
34:38 First is the dumbbell curl,
34:40 which targets the biceps.
34:41 Stand straight with your feet slightly apart.
34:44 With your elbows locked on the side,
34:46 lift the dumbbell up to your chest
34:48 and slowly let it back down.
34:50 Next is the hammer curl,
34:52 which is similar to the dumbbell curl,
34:53 but works out both your biceps and forearms.
34:57 Simply rotate your wrist
34:58 so that your palms face sideways
35:00 when you do your lifts.
35:01 Then let's get to work on your triceps.
35:05 For the triceps kickback,
35:07 stand with knees bent and slightly bow
35:09 while keeping your back straight
35:11 so that your upper body is almost parallel to the floor.
35:14 Keeping your elbows locked to your sides,
35:17 bend your arms back outward and pull them back in.
35:20 Another great toning workout is the triceps dip.
35:26 Set yourself on the edge of a bench
35:27 and grip it with both arms at your sides.
35:30 Extend your legs so your feet are flat on the floor.
35:33 Putting your weight on your arms,
35:35 lower yourself down,
35:36 then slowly push back up.
35:38 The triceps extension is similar to the triceps dip,
35:43 but you can do this one while seated.
35:45 While doing the extensions,
35:47 tighten your abs and straighten your back.
35:49 Hold your arm for elbow support.
35:51 Of course, nothing tones and defines the arms
35:55 like push-ups do.
35:56 If you find it hard to do floor push-ups right away,
36:00 start with something easier,
36:01 like doing your push-ups on the wall.
36:03 You can work your way to bench
36:05 or diamond push-ups later on.
36:07 You should work out at least three days
36:11 on non-consecutive days
36:12 because your muscles need to recover
36:15 from the previous workout
36:17 to enable it to grow.
36:20 And for visibly toned arms,
36:22 a little extra effort goes a long way.
36:25 The fat that's deposited in our muscles,
36:31 what we do is we do our exercises
36:35 to tone the arms.
36:37 At the same time,
36:38 we incorporate cardio into our workout
36:41 to lower our overall body fat
36:44 so that the muscles we train show up.
36:47 Because if you're working out your arms
36:51 and you're not doing cardio,
36:52 you're not lowering your body fat,
36:54 no amount of weight training
36:56 can really show it up.
36:58 It was hard at first carrying the weights.
37:05 I found it quite heavy
37:07 even if it's supposed to be the lightest already.
37:09 But you know, after some time,
37:11 I managed to do it
37:13 and it felt good to be able to do it.
37:15 I think the workouts that you can do at home
37:18 are very useful.
37:19 You can do it during your spare time
37:21 and it's very convenient.
37:23 An added bonus,
37:24 with these arm firming techniques,
37:26 you end up working out your entire body
37:28 and looking great overall.
37:30 With tonight's features,
37:37 we hope we've inspired and encouraged you
37:39 to make that healthy and holistic lifestyle change.
