01:25 Not only is it great to do with your friends because it's so much fun,

01:41 Summer is the time to head out of town for a little fun in the sun.

01:49 A sport that's becoming a trend nowadays is wakeboarding.
01:53 A lot of people are getting into it because it's such a fun sport.
01:56 You can do it with your friends.
01:57 And it's a great workout for the summer since it's by the beach.
02:01 We're on our way to Calatagan.
02:02 It's about a three-hour drive so it's a little far.
02:05 But trust me, it's so worth it.

02:16 Water enthusiasts from all over the metro head over to Lago de Oro in Calatagan, Batangas
02:21 to get wet with a board sport that's becoming more and more popular, wakeboarding.
02:26 [MUSIC]
02:33 >> [FOREIGN] As you can see right behind me, there are some wakeboarders and
02:39 some kneeboarders.
02:40 [FOREIGN] I'm gonna try to wakeboard and try to kneeboard.
02:44 And I'm so excited.
02:46 So just wait and see.

02:50 >> Wakeboarding is a sport wherein, as you can see behind us,
02:54 the guy's riding what looks like a snowboard with boots on it.
02:59 And you get pulled by either a cable like what we have here or a boat.
03:02 >> Traditionally, wakeboarding is all about riding the waves or
03:07 the wake caused by the boat pulling you.
03:09 But thanks to cable-operated water ski havens like Lago,
03:13 nowadays you don't need a boat to be able to enjoy the sport.
03:16 All you need is a board and a whole lot of perseverance.
03:19 >> It provides you with a personal talent.
03:21 The fact that you have to master tricks makes it very difficult,
03:24 cuz you won't normally get it just in one try.
03:26 You have to keep on trying and
03:28 it comes with a lot of pain when you hit the water.
03:30 >> And you get a good workout, right?
03:31 >> Definitely.
03:32 The fact that almost every part of your body,
03:35 even if you go to the gym regularly, you'll still feel soreness the day after.
03:40 That's a guarantee.
03:41 >> Wakeboarding is a great total body workout because you rely on your lower
03:46 body to help you get up and stay up, and upper body to hang on.
03:50 For balance, wakeboarders heavily depend on their core strength.
03:54 No wonder boarders look like beach babes.

04:00 Standing on a board on water may look and sound easy, but don't be fooled.
04:04 Wakeboarding is definitely harder than it looks.
04:07 Was it hard the first time?
04:09 >> Very, it took me half a day just to get up.
04:11 >> Really?
04:12 >> Yeah, in the same place.
04:12 >> And how far did you get?
04:14 Did you get to go like really far?
04:14 >> Just like every other beginner.
04:16 I mean, everybody starts out the same.
04:17 >> See, it's hard.

04:25 For beginners like me, it's best to learn the basics of wakeboarding by kneeboarding.
04:30 Just so you can get the hang of things.
04:34 >> You'll try kneeboarding first before wakeboarding.

04:38 >> Okay.
04:38 >> All right.

04:41 >> So, we'll start here.
04:43 You'll need a plank.
04:45 >> Okay.

04:53 The first time you'll pull the cable, it's really strong.
04:56 So, you need to be ready for a strong pull.

05:06 Then, when you feel the tension, then you'll pull your arm.

05:38 it's important to know which foot you're more inclined to use for weight and balance.
05:43 >> So, first step here is, unlike kneeboarding, where the force of the pull is forward,
05:47 this one is sideways.
05:49 So, it depends.
05:51 It's either your left foot first, left foot first, or right foot first.
05:54 >> Okay.
05:55 >> So, if you're right-footed, put all your weight on your right foot.
05:59 If you're left or goofy-footed, then put everything on your left.

06:05 >> The pull of the cable is very strong.

06:07 So, if you want to start on the dog first, you sit down.

09:27 We're here to give you summer beauty tips to look hot when the weather's hot.
09:32 First things first, sun damage.
09:35 As we all know, excessive exposure to the sun's rays is harmful to the skin.
09:40 Ultraviolet radiation, which is the harmful rays of the sun,
09:43 is highest between the time of 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock in the afternoon.
09:49 And basically, we dermatologists always advise the patient's use of other materials or objects
09:56 which would add sun protection like umbrellas, hats, as well as clothing or clothes that has ultraviolet ray shield.

10:07 Check the label too when buying sunblock.
10:09 It should also offer a broad spectrum of protection from both UVA and UVB rays.
10:15 The UVB is the shorter form of ultraviolet radiation.
10:20 It is found during midday sun and it does not go inside or penetrate the windows.
10:28 The ultraviolet A is basically longer wavelengths.
10:33 This is what is commonly found to reach inside of a room or a car.
10:39 Sun protection factor 15 is the basic requirement of sun protection.
10:43 But the best, of course, is sun protection factor 30.
10:47 And after slathering on the sunblock for sun protection, remember to reapply sunblock every three hours, less if you get wet.
10:56 Yes, summer's the time to work on our tans.
10:59 We spend so much time under the sun to achieve naturally bronze perfection.
11:03 But really, girls, do we need to remind you about the dreaded death by suntan?
11:09 The more you expose yourself under the sun, the more you expose yourself to the risk of developing skin cancers.
11:17 A safer alternative? Sunless self-tanners.
11:22 There are different types of self-tanners.
11:24 There's foam, there's liquid.
11:27 Scrub your body first to remove the dead skin cells and then that's where you apply the self-tanners.

11:36 But if you want an Insta-Mora-like color, there are a number of products in the market that can give you that fresh-from-the-beach bronze.
11:44 Now, we'll be using the body protector.
11:46 It gives protection for your skin because it has SPF 20 and at the same time, it gives you the tanned effect.

11:55 We all know what the sun can do to the skin, but did you know that UV rays have the same effect on our hair?
12:03 The UVA rays can burn the hair cuticle, which is the outer layer of our hair.
12:08 Without proper summer hair care, our hair becomes brittle, faded, and becomes prone to split ends.
12:15 Talk about a summer bummer.
12:17 What to do to keep those locks beach sexy?
12:20 It would always be good if you could wear like a cap to leave the sun, you know,
12:26 or don't be under the sun too long, have an umbrella and wear a bandana or something to cover the hair.

12:38 Before basking under the sun, protect your hair by using hair products with SPF.
12:44 Before you leave the house during the summer days, you protect your hair by using the protective hair cream or the protective hair milk.
12:54 The protective hair cream is for the finer hair and the milk is for the thicker hair.
13:01 You apply the cream on your palm and then you just rub it slowly and put it all over, all over the hair.

13:15 And spread it evenly. It acts like a leave-on and you can comb through.
13:20 But for an easier, mess-free application, you can try the spray version.

13:30 You just spray it on the hair and apply and comb through.
13:34 And to give your hair some extra TLC...
13:37 After you come in from the sun, from your summer activities, you shampoo your hair with the After Swim Shampoo.
13:46 It's to remove the salts, the chlorine, the sweat, and all this harmful stuff from the summer.
13:53 Summer is all about natural beauty.
13:55 For makeup, what's in are light formulations, waterproof formulations, gel formulations, so that you don't get a makeup meltdown.
14:03 What's out are really thick pancake formulas that make it obvious that you are wearing makeup.
14:10 You should avoid putting too much foundation.
14:13 You just want to have that healthy-looking skin, very sheer.
14:18 But if there's sun, there's definitely sweat.
14:21 So to indulge your inner kakikayan without having the risk of yucky, runny makeup, we say hello to light, waterproof makeup.
14:28 Here, there are cheek blush formulations that are in the form of gel.
14:33 They stay longer even if you sweat.
14:35 Even if you get oily on the beach, then they will stick.
14:39 More and more waterproof formulations for mascara are out there, so that if you must wear mascara on the beach, then you have options.
14:50 This is how to apply summer day makeup.
14:53 Now, before you start with the makeup, you need to make sure that the face is properly cleansed.
14:59 So what I'm using right now is our light cleansing cream.
15:03 After that, apply toner all over your face.
15:06 This will replenish dead skin cells caused by too much sun exposure.
15:10 Now, the first step of our makeup is we need to put foundation primer.
15:14 Now, what it does, it makes your foundation last longer.
15:18 For flawless, glowing all-over cover for your face, go for a liquid foundation or a tinted moisturizer with SPF.
15:26 When the liquid foundation is absorbed into your skin, dust on loose powder with a powder brush.
15:35 Now, to emphasize the shape of our eyes, we will be using a black eyeliner.
15:40 Then, apply one coat of waterproof, smudge-free mascara on your lashes to really prettify your lashes.
15:49 Now, for a playful summer look, we'll be using an orange blusher and highlighter for our cheeks.
15:56 Another great tip, use a bronzer instead of your usual blush for a really tan, beach babe glow.
16:04 Well, bronzer is applied mainly to the cheeks, but you could put a little bit on your nose, on your forehead, and also on your chin.
16:11 Bronzers are more popularly used on the face to warm up the skin instantly.
16:16 And now, for the last step of our summer makeup, we'll be using a moisturizing peach-colored lipstick.

17:07 There are a lot of sports that we can play on the beach, the most popular of which is perhaps beach volleyball.
17:20 We met up with the women's beach volleyball team to find out what gets them so hot about their favorite on-sand sport.

17:51 Volleyball. Who doesn't know it?
17:53 It's been the default PE class sport for everyone who's gone to an all-girls school.
17:58 But how about beach volleyball?
18:01 Beach volleyball is a popular recreational activity played on many beaches around the world, including the Philippines.
18:14 And to show us the ropes of this popular beach sport, meet the Far Eastern University Volleyballs,
18:20 a top collegiate women's volleyball team who are fast and furious on sand.
18:25 Considered as an ultra-competitive sport that requires extreme endurance,
18:30 it's also a fantastic total body workout because you utilize every bit of muscle on your body.
18:36 I mean, have you ever seen a beach volleyball player whose body is not toned to the bone?
18:41 I rest my case.
18:44 For starters, beach volleyball requires a tremendous amount of legwork because sand is the toughest surface to play a sport on.
18:51 On sand, it's like there are weights that are heavy. The weight of the sand on the legs is carried.
18:58 That's where the legs get stronger.
19:00 Sand makes you sink, which is why it's doubly hard to do simple things like walking, lunging and jumping.
19:07 So when you play beach volley, it's like putting in some extra time on those leg weight machines in the gym.
19:13 When you play on sand, it's like you're carrying weights. Your lip is lifted.
19:18 Wow, no wonder their legs are so toned.
19:21 Beach volleyball players have fantastic arm definition because of all the arm muscle action the sport requires.
19:27 Because of the spikes, blocks and volleys that they do, their arms and shoulders get serious action.
19:33 Unlike the indoor six-player volleyball format, beach is a two-man or woman game.
19:39 That, coupled with playing on the sand under the sun, makes this an extreme fat-burning workout.
19:44 It's really fit because when I was in high school, I was really chubby.
19:50 So when I started beach volley, I lost weight.
19:54 Even when I was still in the indoor, my fats were really burning because I was so fat.
20:02 Our training was really intense.
20:05 A beach volley set can go for at least 20 minutes,
20:08 which is why players have to be physically fit to be able to last the end of long matches.
20:13 It's the hottest at around 12 in the afternoon.
20:16 So we do whatever is hard for us.
20:18 So when it comes to actual games, it's easy.
20:21 Playing beach volley under the sun is no joke.
20:24 It's grueling and can sap all the liquid out of you in a short amount of time.
20:28 So in this sport especially, hydration is key.
20:32 We bring water for dehydration so that when we're dehydrated, we're ready for the game.
20:40 But hey, beach volleyball doesn't have to be all that serious.
20:44 The great thing about this sport is anybody can play it with their friends and family, on the beach of course.
20:50 Beach volleyball is not automatic, it's sun and sun and summer.
20:56 Especially since there are a number of beach volleyball courts.
21:00 Yes, actually volleyball courts with sand on them all over the metro.
