Shapps: World cannot ‘give up and get bored’ of Ukraine

  • last year
The world can’t afford to "give up and get bored" of the war in Ukraine, Grant Shapps has told ITV News. The defence secretary's warning comes against a backdrop of scepticism in the European Union and the United States over continued financial support for the war-torn country. But in an exclusive interview, Mr Shapps said financial aid for Ukraine will continue despite the economic situation in the UK, while the amount remains unclear. Report by Jonesia. 00:32 We cannot have a situation in the 21st century
00:34 where an autocratic
00:36 leader thinks it's okay to invade
00:38 a democratic neighbor and that
00:40 the rest of the world will just give up and get bored of it.
00:42 Are you finding that you're having
00:44 to persuade allies that they
00:46 need to remain committed to this conflict?
00:48 I haven't noticed a dimming in that
00:50 determination to ensure that
00:52 Putin cannot win this war.
00:54 Lots of people might look at what you're saying
00:56 and say that you're being complacent here.
00:58 That actually there is very real skepticism
01:00 building in the EU and building
01:02 in the US about
01:04 funding for Ukraine.
01:06 It's not that I don't worry about these things, I do.
01:08 Absolutely every day
01:10 I'm thinking about and concerned about
01:12 how we help our Ukrainian friends
01:14 prevent a despotic leader
01:16 marching across Europe.
