00:00 Skiers are enjoying a fresh batch of snow on the slopes in upstate New York.
00:06 And there could be more on the way this week.
00:09 Christina Schellhoop shows us what to expect in tonight's ski forecast.
00:13 A little bad news, a little good news in today's ski forecast.
00:17 Let's dig into it here.
00:19 Mount Hood Meadows, you've got some problems.
00:21 We've been talking about how soaking wet the rain has been and will be across the Pacific Northwest.
00:27 Well, Wednesday brings more of that soaking rainfall and that plus a milder air.
00:31 Look at the temperature, 45 degrees.
00:33 It's going to lead to some snow melts, which unfortunately means bad news for skiers and snowboarders.
00:38 And hey, even traveling around this area really late tonight and into Wednesday, I think we have some concerns.
00:43 So really take it easy and stay tuned to the forecast.
00:46 If there's any good news here, it's that by Friday we do switch over to some more snow.
00:50 And it's a similar situation as we head to Washington into White Pass.
00:54 Now the snow arrives a little bit earlier in the Cascades of Washington.
00:57 You can see that Thursday brings more in the way of snowfall and temperatures back to the 30s and 20s.
01:02 But Wednesday, that rain is going to be no good for the Mountain Pass.
01:06 All right, let's talk about what happens on the East Coast.
01:08 White Face looking pretty good so far this year.
01:11 We've had a pretty solid season and it's really early.
01:14 Wednesday, in the mid-20s, it's not too bad.
01:16 A couple of snowflakes as we get to Thursday.
01:18 And you'll notice we're a little bit warmer with our storms starting to move in,
01:21 starting to push some rain and snow, a bit of a mix with the upper 30s in White Face.
01:25 Now let's talk about what happens.
01:27 We're going to go to West Virginia.
01:29 Snowshoe, one of my favorite mountains. I absolutely love it here.
01:32 And we actually have, I told you, good news.
01:34 Someone's got to have good news. And here you go.
01:36 Let's talk about your AccuWeather Wintercast.
01:39 This is something you will only find here on the AccuWeather Network,
01:42 AccuWeather.com, and the AccuWeather app.
01:44 And Snowshoe, you're going to get an extra 1 to 3 inches of snow all the way through 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
01:49 So a little fresh powder if you're looking to get out to West Virginia.
01:53 Thank you, Christina.
01:56 With ski season underway, AccuWeather's long-range experts say this season
02:00 will see temperatures run warmer than historical averages for many in the east.
02:04 This is due to El Nino conditions in the Pacific Ocean,
02:07 which will also create a southern storm track across the U.S. throughout the winter.
02:11 Despite this, snowfall is still generally expected to be near historical averages
02:16 to even slightly above historical averages for many ski areas in the eastern U.S.
02:22 The problem I have is rain events.
02:25 Do we get rain events coming in in the middle part of the season?
02:28 That's the bad thing. And that could be a problem.
02:31 Most conditions I think should be good.
02:33 I don't see excellent at this point, but I see good conditions for the northeast and mid-Atlantic.
02:37 All right, we'll take that. Thanks, Paul.
02:40 While December and January are forecast to be warmer than normal in the east when compared to historical averages,
02:46 Pastelok says the month of February will be much colder than February of last winter.
02:51 Just how much colder will depend on the snow cover.
02:54 cover.
