  • last year

00:00 Rwanda scheme is so important because it creates a strong deterrent to anyone
00:04 seeking to make these illegal and unnecessary crossings. We were
00:08 disappointed by the Supreme Court's judgment. The treaty is going to
00:13 fundamentally change the arrangement and address each of the Supreme Court's
00:17 concerns. It will be backed up by a piece of emergency legislation that stops the
00:21 merry-go-round of legal challenges once and for all and enables us to get the
00:26 scheme up and running. Well it will address the Supreme Court's concerns that
00:30 individuals might be sent back to their home country if that's a dangerous place
00:34 to go. That will no longer be an option and individuals will be supported in
00:40 Rwanda with additional help from the UK to ensure that the legal and judicial
00:45 processes there are as strong as possible.
