00:00 What did you think about the whole ring thing?
00:01 (laughing)
00:02 The ring thing, it's so funny.
00:04 Mary noticed it right away.
00:05 Okay, let's see 'cause there's a backstory here
00:07 and I don't know, I don't feel like it's
00:09 all the way my place, but here we are.
00:11 Christine Brown exposing a family secret
00:13 that left her former sister wife Mary majorly upset.
00:17 I am extremely frustrated right now.
00:21 It was not Christine's business to tell.
00:23 She can laugh about it all she wants,
00:26 but it was not her business to tell.
00:29 The big reveal dropped during part two
00:31 of the sister wives one-on-one special.
00:33 As Christine explained, the origin
00:35 of the family's Clauda rings.
00:37 All of Cody's wives previously wore them
00:39 as a symbol of their spiritual marriage.
00:41 So we all got together and we got him a ring
00:43 and we bought him a ring together.
00:45 It was a Clauda ring.
00:46 We all went in on the design, the four of us.
00:48 Around the time fourth wife Robin joined the fam in 2009,
00:52 Christine said Cody did something hurtful to Mary.
00:54 So Cody and Mary had a wedding ring.
00:57 He melted down the ring.
00:59 Saved the gold, saved the diamonds.
01:01 Well, Mary found out.
01:03 She's like, "Well, where's my ring?
01:04 You don't wear it anymore."
01:05 He's like, "Oh, I melted it down."
01:06 Just like that.
01:07 And I was like, he's like,
01:09 "I didn't want Mary to have control over me
01:11 and power over me anymore."
01:12 Mary was Cody's only legal wife from 1990 to 2014.
01:17 That's when they divorced so he could legally marry Robin.
01:19 And get this, Mary didn't find out
01:21 Christine spilled all about the ring
01:23 until after the special was filmed.
01:25 If I wanted to have shared that story in the last 13 years
01:29 in a public way, I would have done that.
01:33 She doesn't get to come on here and tell my story
01:38 without me even knowing it and me finding out later
01:43 that this is what happened.
01:44 And so now I feel like my hand is being forced
01:47 and I have to tell my story.
01:49 Mary then went on to share her side of the story.
01:52 He didn't think that it was fair that I had claim on him.
01:55 And so his way of doing that
01:57 was to melt down the wedding ring.
02:00 'Cause I remember asking him,
02:01 "If you're not gonna wear it, can I just have it?
02:04 Can I keep it?"
02:06 Oh no, I melted it down.
02:08 I didn't want you to have any claim on me.
02:10 It was a very, very painful situation.
02:13 You just kind of get through the emotion
02:15 and figure it out and then just keep going.
02:18 And the timeline's interesting here.
02:20 While fans might assume Cody melted the ring
02:22 as retaliation for Mary's 2015 catfishing scandal,
02:25 which Cody previously mentioned
02:27 took a toll on their relationship,
02:29 it actually happened long before then.
02:31 Happened probably seven years prior to the catfishing.
02:36 And I spent those seven years trying to
02:40 like be in this relationship with Cody
02:43 that he did not want to be in with me.
02:46 Cody and Mary have since called it quits.
02:48 In January, the two announced they officially terminated
02:51 their 32-year spiritual marriage.
02:53 How did you feel finally seeing Mary and Cody split?
02:56 God's been praised.
02:58 That's about freaking time.
02:59 God's been praised.
03:00 Yeah, let her go.
03:00 She's so loyal.
03:01 She's so loyal.
03:02 She's loyal to a fault.
03:03 And I just feel like I'm glad
03:06 'cause now she can do her thing.
03:07 ET recently caught up with Christine and Janelle,
03:10 who've also split from Cody.
03:11 And despite their tension with Mary,
03:13 Christine had nothing but praise for her former sister-wife,
03:16 making the decision to leave him too.
03:18 So glad she can do her thing.
03:19 I'm just glad she was able to finally just move on.
03:24 She needed to.
03:24 I'm so proud of her for making that step.
03:26 She never really wanted to be the person to end it.
03:29 So the way it happened is sad,
03:31 but I'm glad that she's done.
03:33 Happy for her, but also keeping her distance.
03:36 I'm not going to be friends with Mary.
03:37 I'm not gonna be close with her.
03:38 I wish her the best, however.
03:40 I hope that she finds what she's looking for.
03:43 I'm just not going to,
03:44 there's some relationships that I'm going to keep
03:46 and hold on to and people that--
03:48 Protect your peace.
03:48 Yes, people that benefit me and that I can benefit too.
