00:00 Hello, I'm Catherine Wilden, Headteacher at King's Academy Northern Parade.
00:03 So tell me what we're doing here today.
00:05 So today we are having a whole school charity event day where we are contributing to one of our local charities known as Sophie's Legacy.
00:14 It's very important to us that we are supporting our local community and working with our parents and carers.
00:20 So tell me what the children have had to do today.
00:23 So the children today have been asked to bring in a voluntary contribution of either a toiletry or a food item that we can then donate to Sophie's Legacy.
00:32 These items then go towards some of the local hospitals to support families when they are in with their children who are unwell.
00:42 So what is the message that you hope the children will take away from this charity day?
00:46 So we want to raise awareness within our children so that they have a better understanding of children who are less fortunate than themselves.
00:53 And we want them to understand how important it is to give the gift of giving rather than always receiving.
00:59 I'm Isabella.
01:01 Isabella, can you tell me why you're dressing up today?
01:06 We're dressing up for a charity called Sophie's Legacy, which is because it's just helping people who are in the hospital who don't have what they need to be ready for it and to help people.
01:23 And tell me why this is important for your school to do this today?
01:27 It's important because we're helping people be comfortable with being in a hospital because not all people are happy because some people might be scared.
01:40 So we help people by giving, like they help people by like donating food to them or giving them like these parent packs which help parents if they're nervous and they don't have what they need.
01:52 And I understand that you've all been dressing in different colours.
01:56 Yes, it's kind of like trying to like outstand it and show why it's important because we're trying to dress up in bright colours to just like outstand and make people like know why we're doing this for Sophie's Legacy.
