West Bromwich Albion: Baggies flying but need to take more chances
Transcript
00:00 Looking at West Brom and Djalbian, they had an important win at the weekend, beating Ipswich 2-0.
00:07 That sets a real statement out to the rest of the league, doesn't it?
00:11 Oh, it really does. I wasn't convinced that West Brom would be able to get all three points in that.
00:16 I thought maybe they could hold Ipswich to a point, a bit like Birmingham did a few weeks ago.
00:20 But they went out and won, and Ipswich, it was only their second defeat at the time of the season.
00:26 That probably still is, yeah, still is their second defeat of the season.
00:30 So, a big statement win for West Brom. They've only gone and followed it up with a 1-0 victory at Cardiff as well.
00:35 It might not sound too impressive. Cardiff City last season were on the worst teams in the league.
00:40 But this year, they're on the play-off reckoning. So, that's quite an impressive one as well.
00:44 A Jeremy Sarmiento goal from range.
00:46 One thing, though, I'm still not quite convinced. It's just the lack of shots on target for West Brom.
00:52 They only won in that Cardiff game, and it was that long-range effort from Sarmiento.
00:57 They need to be creating a few more clear-cut chances.
00:59 I know that they've had a few injuries recently, players now coming back into the fray.
01:03 But, yeah, it's how long can this, I wouldn't say luck, but the favour of the results be on their side if they're not creating that much?
01:11 I'm a little bit worried about that. But, very impressive nonetheless, and up to third in the Championship now.
01:17 You mentioned third there in the Championship. That's obviously no mean feat at this stage of the season.
01:22 But, as you rightly say there, if they're not creating too many chances, and that doesn't change, do you see them slipping out of the play-off places?
01:31 I think so, yeah. Because they've got such a tough run of fixtures as well.
01:36 It might be bold of me to say they're in third at the moment, but it is so tight.
01:40 It's just four points to Preston in seventh, a couple of defeats to West Brom, and they're right back out of it again.
01:46 And they have got those tough games coming up. I think they've got Leicester at the weekend, Sunderland to play as well,
01:52 Middlesbrough, Stoke, Norwich, Leeds, all in the next seven. Rotherham in there as well, they should be able to win against them, I believe away from home.
02:00 So, yeah, it is a tricky run, and I think it will tell a lot, actually, what these results are in this.
02:06 If they can come out of it relatively unscathed, though, and they're still in third, fourth, fifth place,
02:11 then I think they've got a very good chance because the pitches after that are very good.
