00:00 I'm Laurie Blake, welcome to the WrestleTalk News.
00:09 On Fridays we wear pink.
00:11 Our top story today makes a nice change this week because we're going to be talking about
00:15 Otis.
00:16 Are we bollocks?
00:17 It's more CM Punk news.
00:19 Unless of course you've been living under a rock, you'll no doubt be aware that The
00:22 Punker made his return to WWE last weekend at Survivor Series because hell froze over.
00:27 Or was at least paper-mached over with dollar bills.
00:31 With Punk back in WWE for the first time in 10 years, the rumour mill has been set ablaze
00:36 with talk of all the potential dream matches and unfinished business we could now see.
00:41 And Fightful Selective learned of a very interesting one as they heard that several in the company
00:46 were pushing the possibility of CM Punk taking on Stone Cold Steve Austin.
00:53 Which of course seems like wishful thinking, but Fightful said that there was so much chatter
00:58 that Punk even had discussions about the possibility, with many in WWE hopeful and even optimistic
01:05 that the match could finally be put together.
01:08 And sources close to Austin say that they'd never heard him mention any personal issues
01:12 that the two would need to get over in order to work together, which must be a first for
01:17 Punk.
01:18 I'm kidding, the source also said that Punk and Austin drop each other messages a couple
01:21 of times a year or so.
01:22 How are you?
01:25 Still like beer?
01:28 Question mark?
01:29 Yeah.
01:31 Still straight edge?
01:34 Yeah.
01:36 See you next year.
01:37 Fightful noted that they haven't heard how far along the talks are, but if all went well
01:40 Punk would fly out to Austin to go over ideas with an ideal scenario in mind.
01:46 Meanwhile Punk has been teasing other opponents on his Instagram like this small boy.
01:52 Who did eventually grow up to be Dominik Mysterio and many have taken the post to insinuate
01:56 that CM Punk does want to take on Dirty Dom.
01:59 Well Dom responded to the post by reposting it with added clown face emojis for his family.
02:05 Live the gimmick Dom.
02:06 You'll be sad about that one of these days.
02:08 Enough about opponents though because Punk returning to WWE comes at a very interesting
02:12 time as the company was merged with UFC under the TKO banner and, if you remember one of
02:18 the things Punk tried in his downtime from wrestling was stepping inside the octagon.
02:23 With Punk now back in the fold it could be lucrative for both WWE and UFC and UFC President
02:28 Dana White commented on the return and how much of an impression Punk made during his
02:32 time with UFC.
02:34 He said, "I texted him that night after he walked out in Chicago.
02:37 It was amazing.
02:38 I texted and congratulated him.
02:40 It was incredible.
02:41 I've had nothing but a great relationship with him since the day we met.
02:44 He's a super nice guy.
02:46 He's one of the easiest people I've ever dealt with.
02:48 Everybody that he trained with in MMA and everyone around him in his camp respected
02:53 him and that spoke volumes."
02:56 What a different world to wrestling it must be.
02:59 So with Punk on good terms with Dana and having been commentating MMA for Cage Fighting Fury
03:04 Championship I wouldn't necessarily be surprised if we do see some crossover at some point.
03:09 Now here's the thing, many think Punk rejoining WWE is a huge blow to AEW and some people
03:16 even have the gall to go up to Tony Khan and ask that direct to his little cherub face.
03:20 But the New York Post took a very different tact as they asked what TK viewed as Punk's
03:25 positive contributions to AEW and he said, "The first dance was an incredible moment
03:30 in wrestling and was part of a very important time in AEW.
03:34 All Out 2021 along with All In are our biggest pay-per-views of all time and we've had
03:38 a lot of great success as a company, as a team and in some of the most exciting times
03:43 CM Punk has been a big part of that team."
03:46 He was there.
03:47 Thank you Tony.
03:48 Back to the studio.
03:49 Meanwhile Pete Rosenberg on Cheap Heat called a man who historically knows a thing or two
03:54 about being unpopular in the locker room, Shawn Michaels.
03:58 Michaels said, "I understand business.
04:00 I wasn't always the most popular guy with people, but I was really good at my job.
04:04 I feel like that's one of the reasons I've had one here in the WWE for almost 40 years.
04:09 I'm dependable and I'm good at my job.
04:12 If you're that, there is always an opportunity here if you want one."
04:16 Stories like this are always fantastic even if they're controversial.
04:21 That's part of what makes them fantastic.
04:24 With all the buzz of CM Punk's move to WWE we've all somehow already forgotten about
04:28 the second biggest free agent signing of the year.
04:31 It's Mr. Woo Energy himself, Ric Flair.
04:35 Now for many Flair's arrival in AEW on a multi-year deal was a signifier that the company
04:39 has lost its way, and slightly hypocritical from AEW's press Tony Khan signing a man
04:45 with many alleged misdeeds after bashing Vince McMahon for his own alleged misdeeds on Twitter.
04:52 One other thing that TK should have been made aware of before making Flair all elite is
04:55 his penchant for putting his foot into his mouth.
04:59 Giving Nature live microphone at any time has always been a risky business, but typically
05:03 it's entertaining.
05:04 However, a yet to air promo on this week's Rampage seems to have people less entertained
05:10 and more disgusted.
05:12 Now this is all yet to air and there isn't video footage of it yet, so a pinch of salt
05:16 is going to be required here, but it is alleged that Flair had a line in this promo in which
05:21 he "invited all the women in the audience from ages 18 to 28 to meet him in his hotel
05:26 room.
05:27 No boyfriends or husbands."
05:30 Now even if this was said, it's unlikely to actually air on TV.
05:33 However, the backlash online seems to have been enough to force a response from Flair
05:37 on X.
05:38 Flair did not directly address the alleged promo in his statement, but he did offer to
05:42 walk out of the company if his presence becomes a problem.
05:49 Flair said, capitalising every single word, "I am so tired of hearing all this negativity.
05:54 I don't need to work and I don't need the money.
05:57 Can't I simply enjoy being by my dear friend Sting's side for the next few months without
06:02 so much hatred?
06:03 I know I'm old, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy life.
06:07 I have earned the right to do whatever I want and I'm exactly where I want to be.
06:11 I appreciate everything, Tony Khan, but I'm more than willing to walk away if I am embarrassing
06:15 you and your company.
06:17 All I can say is, I'm sorry."
06:19 Speaking of AEW stars in hot water, we now move onto the star of the company and some
06:25 potential heat on him from within his own locker room.
06:28 Despite having both extensive swelling on his hip and a torn labrum, the AEW World Champion
06:32 is continuing to appear on AEW TV and is set to still compete at not only AEW World's
06:38 End on December 30th, but also a tag team match alongside Samoa Joe on next week's
06:43 Dynamite.
06:44 Despite MJF's continuing to work through his injuries, it seems as if several stars
06:48 on the roster aren't too impressed with his contribution.
06:52 As a head of Dynamite on Wednesday, MJF gutsily tweeted, "I didn't sleep a wink.
06:56 I'm in a s*** ton of pain and can't get comfortable.
07:00 But it's Wednesday, we got a show to put on.
07:03 I hear it all.
07:04 I read it all.
07:05 I see it all.
07:06 I'm wide awake in more ways than one.
07:09 Let's restore the feeling.
07:11 #AEWDynamite."
07:12 Which led to a response from a user named UnsafeChairShot disputing MJF's positive influence
07:18 on AEW and one that garnered some curious likes from several AEW stars.
07:23 The tweet read "You have almost single-handedly destroyed the feeling.
07:29 LOL."
07:30 And this anti-MJF message was liked by three stars not seen on AEW TV recently, a Brit
07:36 Baker, a Sammy Guevara and Jack 'A Cry Me A River' Perry.
07:40 As mentioned on yesterday's news, Baker has already been critical of her lack of promo
07:44 time compared to MJF and Christian Cage.
07:46 Guevara has been off TV with a concussion but is reportedly cleared to return and Perry,
07:52 do I even need to remind you why he's not on TV?
07:56 Either way, slightly interesting stuff and potentially another signal of some of the
08:00 unrest within AEW.
08:02 And speaking of which, one star who recently suggested that he wasn't in agreement with
08:06 AEW's current direction was QT Marshall.
08:10 Marshall recently made the announcement that he would be departing the company upon the
08:13 expiry of his current deal on January 1st.
08:16 The former AAA Latin American Champion reportedly was keen to seek more opportunities as an
08:21 in-ring performer than he was being afforded within AEW.
08:26 Given Marshall's close friendship with Cody Rhodes, many have expected that he could land
08:29 in WWE, with that reportedly being Marshall's preference according to those close to him.
08:34 However, while it is believed that Cody could land Marshall a job in the company, many sources
08:39 believe that this would likely be in a coaching capacity rather than a wrestling one primarily.
08:43 Regardless, it may not be just Cody pushing for Marshall to hop aboard the WWE runaway
08:51 train as according to Fightful Select, several within the company are pushing for Marshall
08:56 to be brought in.
08:57 Those people are named Cody Rhodes.
09:00 And Stardust.
09:01 It's unclear who this is in reference to, however there is some evidence recently that
09:05 Marshall would be a popular recruit.
09:07 In the news of Marshall's departure, Senor Money in the Bank Damien Priest posted an
09:11 image to his Instagram story of himself and QT during their time as a tag team known as
09:16 the Real Life Heels on The Independence, captioning the image "Good times".
09:21 But it seems as if the soon to be free agent may have more than a few options on the table
09:25 according to Fightful Select's report, with sources in MLW revealing that there was immediate
09:29 interest in bringing him in once he's available.
09:33 According to the report, MLW are interested in Marshall working both in and out of the
09:38 ring, with a promotion currently in the process of revamping their front office, which coincidentally
09:44 will include some roles that Marshall worked in AEW becoming available.
09:47 QT is said to be seen by MLW as a jack of all trades, so it's not hard to imagine
09:53 why there is so much interest in him.
09:55 Something that even the boss he's departing from Tony Khan is also in agreement with,
10:00 speaking glowingly of QT to Joseph Staszewski of the New York Post.
10:04 Khan said, "He has very high aspirations and, rightfully so, he's a very talented
10:09 person, he's got a great mind for wrestling, and he's a very talented wrestler.
10:13 He also does want to have an in-ring career and I think that's important to him and
10:17 he is someone that offers a lot to any company and I have only positive things to say about
10:22 QT."
10:23 But such is life, one star departs and another one arrives, and while AEW may be down one
10:28 QT in 2024, they will of course be up one will, by God, Ospreay.
10:35 Because yes, AEW won the race to Ospreay's cherished signature, beating out interest
10:39 from WWE and according to a very new report from PWInsider, a very interested TNA Impact.
10:46 Because while Ospreay and Impact seem to be enjoying a bit of a love in in recent months
10:49 with Ospreay publicly declaring his love for the company, that did not equate to the aerial
10:54 assassin committing his future to them ahead of their big 2024 TNA rebrand.
10:59 This is despite Ospreay being offered a very, very big bag by the company to do exactly
11:05 that.
11:06 Because according to PWInsider, sources close to Ospreay revealed that he was offered what
11:09 was described as a "fantastic, massive" offer to join Impact.
11:14 One source described the offer as likely the biggest single offer the promotion had made
11:18 to a single star since Anthem took ownership of the company in 2017.
11:25 This fantastic offer was reportedly a "seven-figure level offer" with many within the company
11:31 assuming that the 30-year-old would commit his future to them due to how much fun he
11:36 appeared to be having while working there at the recent Chicago tapings.
11:39 You've got to feel a little bit for TNA in this situation, especially after reportedly
11:43 also seeing another large offer to CM Punk being turned down too.
11:46 The good news for them though is of course that everyone and their dog has their contract
11:50 running out in 2024, so hopefully someone big is going to land up in the Impact Zone
11:55 soon enough.
11:57 One last thing before you go, because there is a brand new project in the works that I
12:00 have been beavering away on behind the scenes and is one I pitched years ago before I even
12:05 joined up with WrestleTalk.
12:07 It is of course our brand new tabletop roleplaying channel, Chaotic Neutral.
12:11 We've got a video over on No Rolls Barred launching the channel, we've got a livestream
12:16 later today of us playing Fiasco, so head on over to Chaotic Neutral if you want to
12:20 see some caper style japes and head on over to NRB to watch the launch video.
12:25 Subscribe to the channel, please please please, I would really appreciate it.
12:28 This is something I've been working on for absolutely ages and I am so so excited that
12:33 it is finally happening.
12:35 Happy Friday everyone, enjoy the wrestling, enjoy everything else.
12:38 Please watch Chaotic Neutral.
