In this editorial segment, Mr. Sujit Nair discusses the United States' warning regarding a thwarted plot to assassinate Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on U.S. soil. The U.S. government has informed New Delhi about its alleged involvement in the plot, as reported by the Financial Times (FT). Pannun, designated as a terrorist in India, holds American and Canadian citizenship and serves as the legal counsel for Sikhs for Justice, an organization advocating for the creation of Khalistan, a separate Sikh homeland.
The FT report follows Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's accusation two months ago, claiming that the Indian government was responsible for the killing of another Khalistani separatist, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, in British Columbia in June. New Delhi has denied any involvement in Nijjar's death. The U.S. collaborated with Canada on the investigation into Nijjar's killing, with Biden administration officials urging New Delhi to cooperate with the probe.
The FT's anonymous sources did not specify whether the alleged plot against Mr. Pannun was abandoned due to the U.S. warning to New Delhi or if the FBI successfully thwarted it. The U.S. also shared information about the purported plot with some allies after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's June visit to Washington DC.
Additionally, the U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) has reportedly filed a sealed indictment in a New York court against one of the accused, and another individual charged in the case has left the U.S. The DoJ is currently deliberating on whether to unseal the indictment, according to the report.

00:00 Namaskar, welcome to another episode of editorial.
00:06 I have a very interesting editorial for you today, so I would urge you to watch it till
00:10 the end.
00:12 There is this guy called Gurupatwan Singh Pannu.
00:18 Gurupatwan Singh Pannu heads a separatist group called Sikhs for Justice.
00:24 The separatist group is banned.
00:26 He talks about violence and he claims to be representing Sikhs, which he doesn't.
00:35 Now this man has been threatening India, he has been threatening Indians, he has been
00:39 threatening Hindus, Hindus in Canada, Indians in India, so on and so forth.
00:45 Now how relevant is his threat and all, that is a different issue.
00:50 Whether he can do it or not, that is a different issue.
00:53 He threatens, he threatens, maybe he likes to see his face in the television, so he threatens,
00:59 that is this man.
01:02 Now after a point in time, it started irritating India and obviously it started irritating
01:08 India.
01:10 Now the United States of America incidentally said that listen, you know what, there is
01:16 a plot to kill this Pannu fellow in United States soil and United States warned India,
01:24 Baba, you don't be part of that plot.
01:26 Indian government should not be part of that plot because we will not tolerate it.
01:30 We will not tolerate somebody coming and killing somebody in our soil, this is not acceptable.
01:35 This is what America said.
01:38 Now the fact is India officially has nothing to do with this plan or plot or whatever.
01:43 At least officially India has never claimed or never said that we wanted to do any harm
01:47 to this man.
01:48 Of course, India always registers our protest saying that how can you allow him to say this,
01:53 how can you allow him to say that he will kill India, he will not make the world cup
01:57 happen and all.
01:58 World cup okay, ho gaya hai, lekin how can you make this man, how can you allow this
02:01 man to say that and all of that.
02:04 But America like I told you day before yesterday warned Indians.
02:09 Now let me talk to you about America warning Indians and let me talk to you about Indian
02:15 stance on this.
02:16 Let's get right into the show.
02:21 So like I told you, Gurupath Pant Singh Pannu has been coming on television doing that whatever
02:28 video of his in a mob background or a chroma background and been threatening India and
02:35 saying that he will and threatening Hindus and all of that and yes he has kind of caused
02:43 lot of anxiety amongst, especially among Indians, Hindus living abroad.
02:47 He has definitely caused anxiety because they are living in another land and he has been
02:52 threatening them.
02:55 Now India has registered its protest saying that this man is operating out of America,
03:02 he is operating out of American soil and guys you better take action on this.
03:08 Action vakshan toh door United States government thwarted a plot to kill Khalistani separatist
03:15 Gurupath Pant Singh Pannu on US soil and warned New Delhi about alleged involvement in the
03:22 plot.
03:24 The Financial Times has reported this.
03:26 So they are not acting, they are not acting anything, at least till now they have not
03:30 acted anything against this Pannu fellow and they also told India, I am the ear of this
03:36 plot like I told you, ear of this plot of killing this man, you dare not do that.
03:40 I warn you, India please don't get involved in killing people in our soil.
03:46 Now let me first talk about United States of America.
03:50 So we will divide this editorial into two halves, the American part, the Indian part.
03:55 Let's first talk about American part.
03:57 TK.
03:58 You see America is one country that has got multiple standards, not one or two standards,
04:06 multiple standards, multiple standards.
04:09 One standard it has for himself, themselves, that is one standard they have for themselves.
04:14 Second standard they have for people who are supposed to be their friends.
04:19 Third standard is for people who are not so friendly with them, that is Iraq and country
04:24 like that.
04:25 So they have three standards.
04:27 So they deal with you according to the standard you are in, in which classification you fit
04:33 in.
04:34 TK na.
04:35 So that's America.
04:36 And I will tell you why I say this.
04:38 You see America has something called as the US Patriot Act.
04:43 US Patriot Act.
04:45 This is under the Department of Justice.
04:47 Now US Patriot Act is a very stringent act.
04:52 And under this act, they have laws like allow law enforcement agencies to use surveillance
04:59 against more crimes of terror, allows federal agents to follow sophisticated terrorist
05:04 trend to evade detection, allow law enforcement to conduct investigation without tipping off,
05:10 allow federal agents to ask a court for an order to obtain business records in National
05:16 Security and Terrorism Act.
05:17 So they have various laws.
05:18 And one of the laws, one of the laws that is clause 4 of the Patriot Act says that Americans
05:25 are threatened as much by terrorists who pay for a bomb as much by the one who pushes the
05:33 button.
05:34 That's why the Patriot Act imposes tough new penalties on those who commit and support
05:41 terrorist operations both at home and abroad.
05:45 This is what clause 4 of the Patriot Act says.
05:50 Which means what?
05:51 Which means America says, you threaten our people, you threaten an American, whether
05:58 you are threatening in our country or whether you are threatening abroad, dude, we are going
06:03 to come after you.
06:05 Very clear.
06:06 Very clear.
06:07 This is what the Americans say.
06:10 Pannu threatened India in their soil.
06:15 But America says, hey, India, you can't come here.
06:19 You don't.
06:20 He is in our soil.
06:21 You don't get into the plot of killing him or annihilating him or whatever.
06:26 I am not saying India is involved.
06:27 I am saying they think that we are and they said you can't.
06:30 I am warning you, they said.
06:31 Toh hum karega toh that is crime.
06:34 But they can do it.
06:36 Do you remember that photograph and that's right there on your screen where Barack Obama
06:41 is sitting in his office, in his conference room with his defense force and actually watching
06:48 like a television program.
06:49 He is watching Osama Bin Laden being killed in Pakistan.
06:53 He is watching it live and they release those footage to the world.
06:58 He is watching it live.
06:59 He got a group of people to go to Pakistan and annihilate, finish off, kill, neutralize
07:08 Osama Bin Laden and his family.
07:10 Killed him.
07:11 Like the way he did Saddam Hussein.
07:15 He captured them.
07:17 So they have the right.
07:19 That's different baba because that is American life.
07:23 Indian life, this fellow says, Pannu says that Indian life, Hindu's life and all that
07:27 when he talks about in Canada, that's all okay.
07:30 Wo sab chalta hai.
07:31 But there you can't.
07:32 You can't mess around in our soil.
07:34 Incidentally he is an American citizen.
07:37 At least that is what they say.
07:39 How fair is that?
07:42 I mean how much more can you have, how much more double standard can you have in your
07:46 foreign policies?
07:48 And how much more can a country be one-sided in their thinking and selfish in their thinking
07:54 and still says that we are the leader of the world, we think for the betterment of the
07:58 world and the world listens and people clap.
08:02 How much more can this happen?
08:05 My question number one.
08:06 This is as far as America is concerned.
08:08 Now let us get into India.
08:10 You see, I will show you the same photograph.
08:15 The American president sitting there and taking down the person who threatened his people.
08:23 Not covertly, not by shying away, not by sending covert operation and all that.
08:28 In the face of the world, he sat there, he said I am going to take him down.
08:34 You Osama Bin Laden threatened my people.
08:36 You Osama Bin Laden killed my people.
08:38 I am going to take you down.
08:39 Now and he got him down.
08:43 Now I don't preach killing.
08:46 I am not.
08:47 I am a proponent of non-violence.
08:49 I don't preach killing.
08:51 But you see, all I am saying is when our leadership talks about 56 inches, talks about
08:58 ghar pe ghuske maarege, talks about the whole world as we are influencing the whole world,
09:04 the whole world today listens to us.
09:06 When you say all that, then why isn't our Prime Minister sitting like that President
09:12 of United States in his conference room and with his people and watching a Pannu being
09:18 taken down or at least arrested.
09:20 So we can do.
09:22 Why doesn't that happen?
09:23 Why don't we have India Patriot Act?
09:28 Why are things that we say are only in election rallies?
09:32 Ghar pe ghuske maarege, wo karenge, ye karenge.
09:36 Why is it all in election rallies and why doesn't it happen in actual way?
09:42 Why is it not happening?
09:56 Why can't we have the guts to sit in our office?
10:24 Our President, our Prime Minister, rather our Prime Minister sit in his office and say
10:28 56 inch ka chest hai, India ka log sunte hai, people listen to India, we have influenced
10:34 the world and we are country that people are, that other nations respect.
10:39 So therefore, if you talk against our countrymen, you threaten my people, I am going to take
10:44 you down, I am going to get you arrested.
10:46 Why don't we say that?
10:49 So either, there are two things I have to believe.
10:53 This concept of you know 56 inches, global leader, Vishwa guru, Vishwa that, Vishwa this
11:00 and all is nothing but just a optical illusion, creation, event.
11:08 Because if it wasn't, then things would have been different.
11:12 The second thing otherwise is that India is what India always was.
11:19 Even during Indira Gandhi's time, we had our own clout.
11:23 Indira Gandhi too had gone and spoken to Nixon and said that we are going to split Pakistan
11:28 because we have a problem with Bangladeshi refugees coming into our soil.
11:31 So we are going to split Pakistan.
11:33 We split Pakistan.
11:35 Nixon wanted to support Pakistan.
11:36 Nixon was all for supporting Pakistan.
11:38 We made Nixon sit where he is.
11:41 And we went and we divided Pakistan.
11:45 So we had our clout then.
11:46 We had our clout during Vajpayee.
11:49 We had our clout during Manmohan Singh and we have our clout during Narendra Modi.
11:55 Nothing much has changed is all I am saying.
11:58 Because other than optics, other than optics, what I see is somebody, some terrorist fellows
12:06 standing in front of camera and easily threatening our people.
12:10 Easily threatening our people.
12:11 After arresting our people and putting them behind bars and giving them death sentence.
12:17 Kulbhushan Yadav.
12:19 Pakistan calling him a spy when India says he is not a spy.
12:24 And he is there.
12:26 God knows in what stage.
12:28 We seem to be doing nothing about it.
12:31 We can't do anything about it.
12:33 Forget all those.
12:36 That Antigua fellow, that Mehul Choksi, sitting there.
12:39 Nothing.
12:40 We can't get him here.
12:41 Vijay Mallya sitting in London.
12:43 We can't do anything.
12:44 Lalit Modi sitting in London.
12:45 Can't do anything.
12:46 Nirav Modi sitting in London.
12:47 Can't do anything.
12:48 So, some head on the line.
12:50 Most often than not, our images we can't do anything.
12:53 But we call ourselves Vishwa Guru, 56 inches, ghar pe guzhke maarenga and all of that.
12:58 So this is the point that I want to make.
13:00 The conclusion is therefore A, that if America does, it is fine.
13:06 But if anybody else wants to do, catch criminals, unfair.
13:11 If America wants to pick somebody, they can go to their residence, they can go to whichever
13:17 country they stay, pick them, kill them, whatever, do and come back.
13:21 Nobody questions them.
13:22 If India does or anybody else does, it is a problem.
13:25 Second thing is India, we sit and talk in election rallies that you know, tremendous
13:32 power, I shake hands, people respect me and all that.
13:34 When we say all that, this is the respect.
13:37 This is the respect.
13:38 Jab tak we are in that square, respect and all theek hai.
13:42 Optical illusion, television ke liye, respect and all theek hai.
13:44 But when it actually rupee hai na paise, nothing really happens.
13:48 Nothing happens.
13:49 Just last bit before I end.
13:51 You see, Nitin Yahu, that is the Prime Minister of Israel, made a statement.
13:57 He said that we will defy the world if needed to defeat Hamas.
14:02 Palestinian Authority can't run Gaza after war.
14:05 This is what a Prime Minister said.
14:07 I wonder when will we be Vishwa Guru enough to say that listen, we will defy the world.
14:15 But if one Indian is threatened anywhere in the world or arrested or he runs away to any
14:22 part of the world after doing criminal offence here or economic offence here, we will come
14:27 and get you.
14:28 When will that 56 inch happen?
14:32 I am waiting for that day.
14:33 Till I see you next time, Namaskar.
