Jeepney drivers refuse to go back on the road

Manibela's Chairman Mar Valbuena says in a press conference that as of Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023, jeepney drivers have not plied their routes for almost two weeks. In Metro Manila, around 30,000 units remain inactive and unwilling to resume regular operations amid the issue of PUV modernization.

00:04 End the transport crisis now!
00:07 End the transport crisis now!
00:09 Our comrades are still not returning to the roadways.
00:15 It's been almost two weeks since the roadways were closed.
00:19 Our hipney drivers and other modes of land transport.
00:24 We saw the hardship of our fellow countrymen.
00:29 Because of the government's hard work and the fear of our small operators and drivers.
00:37 Our fellow countrymen told us that the hipney in the roadways is not lost.
00:45 This is what is making us anxious today.
00:49 We don't know if this whole week will continue and in the next weeks.
00:57 Because of the lack of hope in the future of our fellow countrymen in the transport sector.
01:05 Especially in hipney, Ubex, express and other modes of transport.
01:10 We saw their despair.
01:13 The sadness that we can't get a concrete answer.
01:18 Our fellow countrymen are still hoping for a small and public transport.
01:28 It's saddening that our students are not returning to work.
01:35 We can't imagine that many are still not returning.
01:40 It looks like there's still a strike.
01:42 If I'm not mistaken, most of the NCR, Central Luzon and Region 4A are still not returning.
01:52 In Quezon City, there are many roads that are paralyzed.
01:59 This morning, free ride announcements were released in different parts of Metro Manila, Central Luzon and Region 4A.
02:15 It's a proof that we have a problem.
02:18 We are facing a transport crisis.
02:21 We are calling on our government to immediately take action and fix this problem of our fellow hipney drivers and operators who are losing their livelihoods.
02:35 If this continues, not only our students will be affected, but our economy will be affected.
02:46 I hope that we won't just be facing poverty.
02:51 I hope that we will return to our old franchises that we have been given back.
02:59 I hope that we will still have provisional authority and modernization.
