MACC ready to justify freezing of Aman Palestin accounts in court

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is ready to reveal to the courts its justifications for freezing the accounts of Aman Palestin Berhad, says its chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.

00:24 Azam said the asset freeze to assist an ongoing investigation was based on Section 44(1) of
00:31 the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities
00:38 Act 2001.
00:40 He added that the law gives jurisdiction to an enforcement agency to issue an order to
00:46 freeze the assets of any individual in any investigation if there is a need.
00:52 He also stressed that the MACC is entrusted to investigate sternly and fairly any issue
00:57 of misappropriation or abuse of power, especially cases of public interest involving leakages

01:05 Last week, the anti-graft agency said over RM25 million in 42 bank accounts under Amman
01:12 Palestine had been frozen following its investigation of allegations that the charity organisation
01:18 misused public donations.
01:21 Four gold bars weighing one kilogram each were also seized.
