A 13-year-old boy has been arrested by police for allegedly attempting to rob an e-hailing driver in Taman Keladi, Sungai Petani, Kedah.

A video of the incident, which occurred at 6.20pm on Monday (Nov 27), has gone viral.

00:15 Kuala Muda District Police Chief ACP Zaidi Chehassan said the driver picked up the suspect
00:20 in Taman Keladi. During the journey, the suspect asked to borrow 50 ringgit to pay his house
00:26 rent. The victim said if he did not have the money, he would have to drop off the suspect
00:31 on the spot. But the boy refused and asked to be sent to a house in Bandar Sri Astana
00:37 to collect money and pay for the transport service.
00:40 ACP Zaidi said the victim received a payment of 18 ringgit and was asked to send the suspect
00:46 back to Taman Keladi. Upon reaching the destination, the victim was returning change when the suspect
00:53 pointed a knife at his chest and attempted to snatch money from his pocket. The victim
00:57 managed to grab hold of the knife by biting the suspect's hand and the boy fled.
01:02 The teen was arrested around 10pm the same day and the knife measuring 25cm long was
01:08 also seized. ACP Zaidi said investigations revealed that the suspect was angry with the
01:14 driver for allegedly insulting him and wanted to reclaim the fare. He is being remanded
01:19 for a day to facilitate the investigation under section 393 of the Penal Code.
