00:00 How do you describe that result today?
00:03 The result is really disappointing. I think there's loads to pick out of the game. Probably
00:09 got to take two separate games within that. What happened after the red card and obviously
00:14 prior to that. So yeah, the result is really, really disappointing and I think plenty to
00:18 pick out of it.
00:19 First of all, first half, you played quite well, you were responding very well to that
00:24 awful goal.
00:25 Yeah, so that was a real positive. At half time I felt actually we played pretty well.
00:29 I was really disappointed with the fact that we started slowly and we allowed them to go
00:34 a goal up before we properly responded. But we did, we created quite a few chances that
00:37 we didn't put away. The goalkeeper made a couple of really good saves. But yeah, we
00:41 hadn't done enough ultimately at half time. That's why I take the two parts of the game
00:48 prior to the red card and after it. My bigger concern is really how we started the game
00:53 and why we found ourselves a goal down.
00:55 I'm assuming you were disappointed not to go in all square at half time, the amount
00:59 of chances you created.
01:00 Oh definitely, definitely. I was messaging the lads that I thought they actually played
01:04 quite well without putting the ball in the back of the net. And also we got into some
01:07 good areas, particularly down the right hand side and we didn't create from there. We didn't
01:11 work the goalkeeper enough and probably similar to what we did against Charlton the other
01:14 week. And yeah, just have to make sure that it's not a recurring theme this season because
01:19 I think we've, for the most part, put a lot of our chances away. But yeah, it could have
01:23 been a very, very different game obviously if we'd scored in the first half.
01:26 But straight from the start of the second half, you never looked flattered, did you?
01:29 No, I think it was obviously one of those where it was just taking a bit of time for
01:35 us to get into the game. That's where we made the substitution, brought Christian Sadie
01:38 on. Thought that might raise things and I think the first thing that happened when Christian
01:43 came on was we went 2-0 down. And after that we did get a bit of momentum back. Obviously
01:47 had the penalty shout here at the Flattern End, didn't get it. And I think about 30
01:52 seconds after that the game changed with the red card.
01:53 Well, there were a lot of talking points in the second half. First of all, the second
01:57 goal, Will Norris was extremely angry about it, wasn't he?
02:01 Yeah, so it was an interesting one. I spoke to the linesman during the game. He said he
02:06 was offside but he wasn't interfering with play. It actually takes a nick off him so
02:09 I don't know how he wasn't interfering there. I'm sorry I'm going to go and speak to the
02:12 referee now because I don't blame the refereeing unit for the result today but I thought overall
02:20 it was a really, really poor performance from the referees. So I'll go and ask the questions
02:25 there. And yeah, that did obviously change things going 2-0 down but I still felt at
02:30 that point like we would have enough to get back in the game but once we went down to
02:33 10 we obviously didn't.
02:34 We've seen the replay and it clearly touches Beazley. The BBC gave it his goal as well
02:38 and that was a play in the offside position.
02:39 Yeah, it tells you everything you need to know and I don't know. I did ask for the explanation.
02:45 They gave me at the time the explanation was that he wasn't interfering with it so yeah,
02:49 it's beyond me. I don't know. I wouldn't have had an issue if they'd have said we didn't
02:53 think it was offside. That's a very, very different thing but it certainly looked offside
02:56 to us and I'm not entirely sure they even had the communication between the referee
03:01 and the linesman because they were very busy booking our players after it.
03:03 And Norris knew straight away he was fuming wasn't he?
03:05 Yeah, Will did and that was the other thing. It clearly interfered with it. Whether he
03:08 touched it or not it clearly interfered with Will's line of sight. I don't want to get
03:12 sort of too fixated on that but yeah, it's one of those things that if the explanation
03:18 was different I think we would have been having a different conversation here. I'd have said
03:21 well look Neil, they've told me he's not offside and we'll get on with it.
03:24 And the Kamara penalty instance, why have you still not replayed that?
03:26 Yeah, it's a Stonewall penalty. I don't know why they didn't give it. It's bizarre. And
03:29 I think that's why I got booked because I was actually just asking the question about
03:32 whether the threshold for fouls in the box is higher which I know it's not but for some
03:37 reason that wasn't given anywhere else on the pitch. We saw it in the first half and
03:40 in the second half, soft little fouls get given and one in front of the bench in the
03:44 first half. If you're going to give those out on the pitch just make sure you're consistent
03:47 and do it in the penalty box as well.
03:48 Because you were sat on the bench as well in the book too, wasn't you?
03:51 Yeah, I was trying to change the shape after Joe Murrell got sent off so yeah, what can
03:55 you do?
03:56 What do you make of the sending off as well?
03:58 I thought it was a sending off, two yellow cards. I thought he should have stayed on
04:00 his feet and I told Joe that. Like I said, after the Peterborough game I've got no problem
04:04 with what he did there because he just pulled the lad back but now Joe's missing for two
04:08 games off something where for an experienced player like him we expected it better.
04:12 And of course it changed the match as well, didn't it?
04:14 Yeah, and at that point we did go for it so we obviously got Cassini on and we tried to
04:19 go a bit more attacking and we got Undone going the other way.
04:21 And then from that point, I suppose, damage limitation?
04:25 In some ways we still tried to be quite attacking with it but I think it was damage limitation
04:29 at 3-0. Obviously we brought Colby and Alex off for Tuesday so it was at that point I
04:32 thought 3-0, the game was drifting away. Who knows if we'd have nicked a goal but I didn't
04:38 think we looked particularly likely at that stage.
04:40 What do you make of the officials overall today?
04:43 I was really disappointed with their performance so I will go and speak to them and ask them
04:46 specific questions about incidents and go from there. But it wasn't the official fault
04:51 that we lost the game but I think it's well worth having that conversation.
04:54 And in terms of 27 games unbeaten in the league and finally being lost?
04:59 Yeah, one of those. It's not a feeling that we're used to. I think we need to look back
05:03 on that with immense pride and look at all the positives that we took from that. We definitely
05:07 have done some very, very good things to get ourselves in this spot and we just need to
05:10 make sure this is just a blip. The only way we'll see that is by a reaction on Tuesday
05:14 night.
