00:00 Some people think you and I are pretty haters.
00:03 Do you think that's a fair characterization of the cones?
00:06 Perry fees?
00:07 Well, hold on.
00:08 I even got a tweet today from a guy.
00:10 I know and like said that why are we pretty haters and I don't
00:16 think it's a fair characterization.
00:17 We are not through the roof for pretty the way fans are their
00:23 fans and we're not and I understand that I mean, but you gave him
00:28 an a his last time out.
00:30 That's a good grade.
00:32 We consistently praise him.
00:35 I always say I love to watch him work.
00:38 So I guess they think you're a hater because you don't always
00:43 give him an a plus a plus is not.
00:46 Is not required a is a it's a pretty good grade.
00:52 So I don't get that.
00:54 Let's say some of the things we like about Brock Purdy and we'll
00:58 go back and forth you start.
01:00 Geez, he's so poised and confident and advanced in terms of his
01:07 skills before the before the play during the play after he's
01:10 really really advanced.
01:12 Someone asked Kyle about his arm.
01:15 The other days is it strong enough and Kyle said and I think
01:19 correctly.
01:19 It's strong enough to make all throws.
01:21 He needs to make it's you know,
01:24 yeah, I mean he probably couldn't throw it a hundred yards who
01:27 cares it's throw enough.
01:28 It's strong enough to make all the throws just like Montana was
01:32 you go.
01:32 Yeah.
01:33 Okay.
01:33 He's really good at avoiding pressure.
01:35 The Niners don't have a good offensive line, but he's nimble.
01:38 He's quick.
01:39 He's Jack be nimble.
01:40 He gets away from people pretty well, even though he's not
01:43 extremely fast.
01:44 I think he's good at improvving and good at avoiding pressure,
01:46 which is a really really important skill, especially on this
01:49 team with that offensive line.
01:51 He is really accurate and precise in his passes and he gets
01:55 him out quick.
01:56 Yeah, really accurate.
01:58 And again, we've seen Jimmy for years not really accurate and
02:02 precise doesn't get him out quick.
02:05 Just that alone that that comparison is enough.
02:08 He's a pleasure to watch.
02:09 You know what?
02:10 He sometimes I feel he's automatic.
02:12 I agree.
02:13 He doesn't lock on to receivers either, you know, like Jimmy
02:16 grapple.
02:16 You should just like look at one guy or a lot of quarterbacks
02:18 do that young ones, especially he doesn't do that.
02:20 He seems to get through his progressions very quickly and
02:23 find receivers.
02:24 I didn't expect to get the ball.
02:25 He's good at that.
02:28 You got to give him credit for that.
02:29 I'll give another one.
02:30 He's very young, but he clearly has the respect of the team,
02:34 which Trey Lance did not have you could know it Iggy.
02:38 Yeah, I don't think he did pretty as a captain Lance was
02:42 not right.
02:44 So I mean, that's a lot of praise where I'm not willing to
02:49 go is to say he's as good as Joe Montana.
02:52 Yeah, I'm not even sure I'm willing to say Steve Young.
02:57 Wait a minute.
02:57 I'm not willing to say Steve Young is as good as Joe Montana
03:01 and Steve Young is an M.
03:03 It was an MVP and it's a Hall of Fame quarterback.
03:06 And you know, Steve told me once that it sort of burned him
03:09 up that I see, you know, you think Joe is better than I am.
03:13 This was after Joe had retired and I felt so awkward.
03:17 I said I kind of do and he said.
03:19 Why it was so aggressive and I wanted to run away.
03:23 But I mean as great as Steve is I wouldn't put him quite with
03:27 Joe.
03:27 So I'm not ready to put Brock Purdy there yet.
03:30 Is that being a hater?
03:32 No, let me let me ask you some other quarterbacks though.
03:35 I mean is would you put Brock Purdy ahead of Dak Prescott?
03:40 No question about it.
03:42 Yes.
03:42 You know, there's that phrase that what does he say that
03:48 being back?
03:49 Dak's going to Dak.
03:51 Dak's going to Dak.
03:52 It means he's going to make a stupid play, you know, for all
03:55 his gifts.
03:56 He's going to make a stupid play.
03:57 Purdy isn't going to make a stupid play.
04:00 He may make a mistake, but he's not going to make a stupid
04:03 play.
04:03 He's better than Dak Prescott.
04:05 He would be better on the Cowboys than Prescott.
04:08 I think so.
04:10 Lawrence Trevor Lawrence.
04:11 Yeah.
04:12 Yeah.
04:12 Him him him or Brock Purdy.
04:15 I think I'd take Purdy.
04:17 I was not really impressed with Trevor Lawrence.
04:19 Me neither.
04:21 Okay, here's another one.
04:22 Matthew Stafford.
04:23 I feel like he's done.
04:26 So I think I think he's done.
04:28 How about goth?
04:31 Jared Goff.
04:33 Yeah, I couldn't say right now.
04:36 I take him over Jared Goff.
04:37 I would have said a few years ago.
04:39 Jared Goff was and I did was nothing.
04:41 Gee, he's a very good quarterback.
04:44 He's a good quarterback.
04:46 He is a stronger arm than Purdy.
04:47 He's not as good as good at avoiding pressure as Purdy.
04:50 So I think it kind of depends what kind of team you got.
04:52 Do you have an office and I would not I would also say he
04:55 gets rattled quicker than Purdy.
04:58 Yeah, he does.
04:59 Okay, pretty so pretty or to a That's very interesting.
05:05 Yeah.
05:06 Okay, I take Purdy.
05:08 Can I tell you why?
05:09 To a he has a long arm release.
05:15 He looks like a pitcher.
05:16 He goes all the way back.
05:18 He slings it Iggy.
05:20 He slings it and I'm so used to 49ers quarterbacks good ones
05:25 getting it out fast.
05:27 So I'm not and also Iggy that's a good team, but that's not
05:32 a team that's going to it's not going to the Super Bowl and
05:36 one of the reasons is to a that's fair about to a I mean
05:40 Purdy or Josh Allen.
05:44 Well, Josh Allen is not having the season that you would
05:48 expect.
05:49 So let me say this this season Purdy, but if I want to be
05:55 fair like over the long haul, maybe Josh Allen unless he's
06:00 declined and I don't know it Iggy.
06:01 He's he could be a Hall of Fame quarterback and I don't know
06:05 yet whether Purdy can do you think I'm being unfair to Purdy?
06:08 No, Alan's playing like a pig.
06:11 He's like the best player in the worst player on his team
06:14 every week.
06:15 I totally get what you mean what he gives he back.
06:18 I agree.
06:19 I don't I wouldn't say that Purdy is the best player on the
06:21 Niners, but he's not their worst player.
06:22 Well, maybe in a couple of losses.
06:23 He put those multiple turnovers, but generally he's neither
06:26 Allen's both.
06:27 It's tough one.
06:28 What about like Jalen Hurts?
06:30 I don't like him that much.
06:32 Yeah, he's gifted.
06:35 He did well last night again.
06:38 Oh, I would boy.
06:40 I guess what I'm saying is I think Purdy is probably certainly
06:45 a top 10 quarterback, maybe even a top five quarterback in
06:47 the league.
06:48 So it's hard to say we're haters.
06:49 It's hard to say we're haters right now.
06:51 Yeah, my reservation with him is that he always plays with
06:54 a lead and a lot of people say like, how is that a knock?
06:56 I mean, he gets credit for that.
06:57 I do agree.
06:58 He gets credit for that.
06:58 Absolutely.
06:59 But dad, I feel like isn't it fair to say that there's a
07:01 big difference in playing quarterback with a lead than when
07:03 you're trailing?
07:04 No question about it.
07:06 And here's the point.
07:08 He eventually will not have a lead in the fourth quarter.
07:12 We know what life is like and what football is like.
07:15 There's going to come a time when he's playing against a
07:19 good team and he has to bring him back.
07:21 We've not seen that.
07:23 That's the plus.
07:25 If he can do it in a playoff game or a big game, essentially
07:31 rise up, be more important than he is.
07:35 There's your plus.
07:36 And we're not saying he can't do it, but we'd like to see
07:40 it. Right?
07:41 And to me, the big difference between playing with a lead
07:43 and playing from behind is when you're playing from behind,
07:45 you have to take chances.
07:47 Maybe your defense isn't playing that well that day.
07:50 You can't really run the ball to get back in the game.
07:52 You got to take chances, drop back and throw somewhat risky
07:55 passes, passes into tight windows, passes with a high degree
07:59 of difficulty.
08:00 When you're winning, you don't have to do any of that.
08:02 In fact, you shouldn't do any of that.
08:04 You don't take chances when you're winning.
08:05 You take what the defense gives you.
08:07 You throw to the open guy.
08:08 You check it down.
08:09 And I think he's great at that, but I'm not so sure how good
08:12 he I mean a lot of quarterback struggle when they're playing
08:14 from behind, but some guys can pull it off.
08:16 I'm not sure.
08:16 Joe Montana did.
08:17 Yeah, Joe Montana did.
08:19 So Wilson is who's your other half Russell Wilson or Brock
08:21 Purdy in the fourth quarter when when all hell is breaking
08:25 loose Russell Wilson.
08:27 No question about it because he's proven he can do it and
08:29 he did it again.
08:30 He's proven and we even talked about it.
08:32 You see him coming on the field.
08:35 He's not thinking.
08:35 Gee, do you think I can do this?
08:38 He's thinking I've done it a thousand times.
08:40 I'm going to do it again and Purdy does not have the experience.
08:45 So I take Russell right now.
08:46 Yeah, what about you Russell?
08:48 And I think that's what that's why I try not to get too
08:50 overboard with Purdy because it's kind of weird to say something
08:54 about a quarterback like man.
08:56 He's great.
08:57 I just don't know if he's going to fold at the crisis moment.
09:00 Like well, how is he great?
09:04 The point is it's not that he folded but we need to see it
09:08 because it's going to happen.
09:10 It happens to every quarterback.
09:13 Well, he folded in those two games and that's only two games
09:16 and that's why we're wondering.
09:17 Yeah, what's he going to do?
09:18 So yeah, not a pretty hitter.
