00:00 First time that I hung out with Jungkook,
00:03 the music video shoot for "Too Much,"
00:04 that was the first time we actually got to properly hang.
00:07 It's interesting, right, 'cause he doesn't speak a lot of English.
00:09 I obviously don't speak Korean, so...
00:12 So it was like an interesting hang,
00:14 'cause a lot of it is just like vibes and like energy.
00:16 And we obviously had like a translator.
00:18 We laughed a lot during that time.
00:20 We laughed a lot, made a lot of jokes.
00:22 Hi, Team Vogue. It's the Kid LAROI,
00:24 and these are some of my firsts.
00:28 I think the first time that I ever introduced myself
00:31 was that was probably at like a...
00:33 Probably at like a meeting or something.
00:35 Even still, I don't like go up to people and be like,
00:37 "Hi, my name is the Kid LAROI."
00:39 My first impression of Justin...
00:42 I just remember being like, "Wow, he's really nice."
00:45 I mean, we met in the studio,
00:47 but it was kind of like a listening party situation.
00:49 He DMed me on Instagram.
00:51 I just remember that being like really like crazy for me,
00:54 especially at the time.
00:55 I remember he like hit me.
00:56 He was like, "Hey, I have this song that I really see you on."
00:58 And that was like a big moment for me.
01:00 The first time we actually hung was
01:02 when we played basketball together at his house.
01:04 I would get a shot in or something.
01:06 He'd just like pat me on the back, be like, "Good job."
01:08 But like if I missed one, he'd be like,
01:10 "Come on, buddy, like next time.
01:11 Like, you have it, you have it.
01:13 Like, keep going."
01:14 And he was just really encouraging.
01:15 Do you want to know my current impression?
01:17 I love him.
01:19 Still.
01:20 Actually, that would just be funny if I was like,
01:23 "Current impression, he's the worst."
01:25 You know what I'm saying?
01:26 That'd be derby.
01:26 That'd be funny.
01:27 But unfortunately, no, fortunately,
01:29 what am I saying?
01:30 Fortunately, he is the greatest still.
01:32 So I heard Central C's song "Loading"
01:37 when it came out in 2020, I believe.
01:40 I think I reached out after that
01:41 and we just kind of stayed cool.
01:43 He came out at Reading Leeds with me in 2021,
01:46 which was a really cool moment.
01:47 That was really dope.
01:48 And from there, we just kind of like stayed in contact,
01:50 whatever, and I was just always trying
01:52 to find the right record for him.
01:54 And I really liked the idea of this one
01:55 'cause it was like fun and fresh
01:58 and something that we both had never really done before.
02:02 So I was just like, "It'd be cool."
02:04 I'm trying to practice like not using my phone
02:06 in the morning at all,
02:07 'cause I always notice when I wake up
02:09 and look directly at my phone,
02:10 it just creates a bad day for me.
02:13 So who the hell wants to wake up
02:15 and look at like, beep, yeah, no.
02:18 But it happens, unfortunately.
02:20 My breakfast consists of, every morning, by the way,
02:23 this is like ritual.
02:24 It's my favorite meal of the day.
02:26 Egg whites, turkey bacon, or like sausage,
02:29 sourdough toast, and a cup of black coffee.
02:32 And like sometimes like breakfast potatoes,
02:34 if I'm like at a restaurant.
02:35 First time that I hung out with Jungkook,
02:38 it was at the music video shoot for "2MUCH."
02:41 That was the first time we actually got to properly hang.
02:44 It's interesting, right?
02:44 'Cause he doesn't speak a lot of English.
02:46 I obviously don't speak Korean.
02:48 So it was like an interesting hang
02:51 'cause a lot of it is just like vibes and like energy.
02:53 And we obviously had like a translator and stuff.
02:56 He's just like super, super kind, super sweet.
02:58 Like we laughed a lot during that time.
03:00 We laughed a lot, made a lot of jokes.
03:02 I had him try a Vegemite for the first time,
03:05 pranked him a little bit, told him it was chocolate.
03:08 And that was funny.
03:09 He was like, what the hell?
03:12 He was like, this doesn't taste like chocolate.
03:13 It tastes like veggies.
03:15 And I was like, ha.
03:16 We laughed a lot.
03:17 He was very kind and yeah, cool dude.
03:21 Cool ass dude.
03:22 I mean, I drink lots of water.
03:23 I mean, it's kind of boring.
03:24 The last tour that we just went on,
03:26 the first thing that we would do after the show
03:28 is we kind of had this like Nerf gun war going on
03:32 throughout the entire tour.
03:33 So like I would get off stage
03:35 and I'd instantly go to the room and load up my Nerf gun
03:38 'cause we just couldn't be caught lacking.
03:40 That was like the whole thing.
03:42 At any point of the day,
03:43 someone could come in and just light you up
03:46 with the Nerf gun.
03:47 So we would go right to it.
03:49 Like after the show, we'd get right to it
03:51 and then probably go get some food and yeah.
03:54 If we're talking about Australia,
03:56 I wasn't like super big or anything.
03:58 I just had some stuff on like SoundCloud
04:00 and stuff like that.
04:01 But if we're talking about like in America,
04:04 I think I was walking through the mall with my buddy, Omar.
04:08 And it was right after my first ever "Cole Bennett" video
04:10 was put out, a group of kids like recognized me.
04:13 And I just remember being like, holy shit.
04:15 Like this was like literally like days after it came out.
04:18 Like that's when I felt like, oh my God, dude,
04:20 people are starting to know who I am.
04:21 This is really crazy.
04:22 I don't know if I like get as hyped about like followers
04:25 and stuff anymore.
04:26 It's just more so like when people like the music,
04:28 I think that's when I get the most excited.
04:30 I mean, the first big purchase,
04:32 well, I rented a,
04:34 the moment I signed a record deal,
04:35 I rented a house back home for a couple of months.
04:38 But in terms of like something I bought, like and had,
04:41 I went to this store in Sydney
04:43 and I bought like three pairs of Amiri jeans.
04:45 That was like, whoa, I can't believe
04:48 I just spent this much money on jeans.
04:50 Like that's crazy.
04:51 I think it was MC6.
04:53 That was my first ever stage name.
04:56 And it was just 'cause MC like rapper.
04:58 And I always like, it was like, I don't know,
05:00 I've been kind of like trying to rap
05:02 since I was six years old.
05:03 As funny as that sounds like, you know, just, yeah.
05:05 That's when I started like loving music.
05:07 I think I still remember like the first ever thing
05:10 that I wrote.
05:11 I set a bar in there about like,
05:13 you need a cool exhibit to come and pimp your ride.
05:16 'Cause like, that was like my favorite show
05:17 at the time when I was a kid.
05:18 I just remember that bar being a standout.
05:21 I was really proud of it.
05:22 So the first time that I've been to the Grammys
05:25 was last year and I was having a bad week.
05:28 I was having an even worse day
05:30 and I just was like going through the motions
05:33 and just like not feeling it.
05:34 So it was honestly like as cool as it is
05:37 to go to the Grammys.
05:38 I was just like in such a thing that I just like wasn't.
05:43 I feel like I wasn't present.
05:46 I wasn't taking it in.
05:47 So like I didn't have the best experience.
05:50 But so yeah, there it is, I guess.
05:54 The brutally honest version of my first time
05:56 at the Grammys, yeah.
05:57 Anytime you go to any award show,
05:59 it's like overwhelming.
06:00 You're like put up against other people
06:02 and other peers and stuff.
06:03 And everyone's feeling a little like vulnerable
06:05 or a little like insecure.
06:06 At least I know I do 100%.
06:08 And like some of the people I've talked to,
06:09 you're in a whole nother mind frame.
06:11 You're doing interviews,
06:12 you're doing all this other stuff.
06:12 You're like overwhelmed and it's just,
06:14 you're not sometimes feeling your best
06:16 and you're feeling anxious about like awards
06:19 or people choosing your stuff or whatever it is.
06:22 And so that in itself is like an overwhelming thing.
06:26 And then just like not being in the right mindset for that.
06:28 It's just like a combination for like disaster.
06:32 My first date.
06:33 It depends what you count as a date.
06:37 I think like something that could be counted
06:39 as like a date date is probably go-karts I think.
06:42 I love go-karting.
06:43 I'm sure I like went on like mini dates or something.
06:46 But like something that felt like an actual date
06:48 was probably yeah, go and go-karting.
06:51 Now 16.
06:52 I was like super young.
06:53 I might've been like five years old or something.
06:55 And I remember like watching a Britney Spears music video.
06:59 And that was the first time that I was like, whoa.
07:02 Like I was like, wow.
07:03 I think I'm in love with Britney Spears.
07:06 The first part of my nighttime routine is brushing my teeth.
07:11 And then I wash my face
07:12 and then I do like a little skincare situation.
07:15 I've been trying to read books recently,
07:18 but like I'm so my attention span
07:21 is like trying to work on that.
07:24 I listen to a lot of music.
07:25 I've been watching Entourage a lot recently.
07:28 I love that show.
07:29 The show is insane.
07:29 I like crushed like five seasons of that in like weeks.
07:35 So celebrate probably.
07:37 Celebrate music being out.
07:39 Yeah.
07:39 I just have some people over at the house or something.
07:42 I go to a restaurant.
07:45 I don't know.
07:46 Thank you, Teen Vogue for having me.
07:47 I am the Kid LAROI and these were my first.
07:51 (upbeat music)
