I was surprised how cheap the Porsche Macan is. With the rest of its competitors now creeping up in price, the Macan represents surprisingly good value for money. Paul Maric tests out the 2023 Porsche Macan T to see what it's like behind the wheel.

00:00 G'day, I'm Paul.
00:00 So I vowed to never be an SUV person,
00:03 but that all changed when I had a kid.
00:06 So I understand if you're looking at one of these.
00:09 This is the Porsche Macan.
00:10 And yes, I understand this is about to get replaced,
00:12 but I thought we'd have a crack in this
00:14 because it is still purchased
00:15 by a lot of people in Australia.
00:17 And it's the cheapest way to get yourself into a Porsche.
00:20 This one here is the Macan T.
00:22 It's one up from the base model.
00:24 This competes with things like the Mercedes-Benz GLC,
00:27 the BMW X3 and the Audi Q5.
00:31 It's priced at just over $90,000,
00:33 but if that's too expensive,
00:34 the whole range kicks off at a little under 90 grand as well.
00:37 Today, we're gonna do a detailed review of this car.
00:39 So if you do wanna skip ahead to other parts of this review,
00:41 you can use the time codes on the screen,
00:43 or if you're on YouTube,
00:44 you can scroll down and use the chapters below.
00:46 And if you haven't done so already,
00:47 subscribe to our channel and press the bell icon
00:49 so you can find out every single time
00:51 we review a very orange car.
00:53 Let's talk exterior.
00:56 You've got 12 external colors to pick from.
00:58 All but black and white are gonna seat you back
01:00 at least $1,800.
01:01 They get progressively more expensive
01:03 as you go to the special colors.
01:04 And I think you can spend like 16 or 17 grand
01:07 on like a special, you know,
01:09 pick your own color type thing, color match setup.
01:12 So you can spend a lot of money on colors in short.
01:15 I do like this setup here though.
01:16 The Macan T is designed to be,
01:19 I don't know, it's kind of like designed to be
01:20 a slightly paired back version
01:23 that focuses on sportiness
01:24 without having to spend heaps of money
01:27 on the top spec turbo or the V6 version of this as well.
01:30 So that's kind of the niche it aims for.
01:32 And that's why it's powered by a two litre four cylinder
01:35 instead of a V6.
01:36 I'll be keen to see whether that's powerful enough
01:38 to actually get this thing up and moving.
01:40 On the design front,
01:41 beautiful Porsche crest up the front there,
01:43 and then big grill down the bottom here
01:46 with active louvers in there as well.
01:48 Little radar sensor there
01:50 and a camera there for the 360 camera.
01:52 I like the way they've split this up.
01:53 So you've got the color up the top there,
01:55 a little bit of black down here,
01:56 and then there's graphite finish down there
01:58 before you go further down at the front.
02:01 This is actually moving to an EV.
02:03 So the next generation of the Macan will be an EV.
02:05 And I'm excited to drive that as well
02:07 because Porsche, they've kind of got all the bedrock there
02:10 with the Taycan.
02:11 And the fact that they're gonna now transfer
02:13 a lot of that with new technologies to this as an SUV,
02:16 I think is pretty cool.
02:17 So over here on the headlights,
02:19 you have full LED headlights
02:21 with LED daytime running lights as well.
02:25 Little bit of aero down here,
02:26 but it's kind of just a cookie catcher for rocks.
02:28 You can see a little rock embedded in there as well.
02:31 Whip around to the side here.
02:33 Now you've got an array of wheels to choose from here.
02:36 This particular car is fitted with the 20-inch alloy wheels.
02:40 This also is running the optional adaptive air suspension.
02:43 So the Macan T is actually 15 mil lower
02:46 than the standard Macan.
02:48 If you then go for the adaptive air suspension as well,
02:51 it drops at a further 10 millimetres.
02:52 So you do have a pretty aggressive
02:54 and sporty looking sort of silhouette on the side there.
02:57 It looks more like a sports car than it does an SUV.
03:00 So you're kind of getting the practicality
03:02 of both of those worlds.
03:04 Decent profile on that tyre.
03:06 So it should mean that this actually rides nicely.
03:08 So in terms of braking,
03:09 you have a four-piston caliper on a 350 mil rotor.
03:12 That drops to a 330 mil rotor on the rear tyres.
03:15 I like that design as well.
03:16 Graphite finish on the wheels, which is cool.
03:19 Jumping up the top here,
03:20 you've got more graphite there on that wing mirror
03:23 with an indicator built into there.
03:25 Camera over here for the 360 camera.
03:27 Nice little subtle Macan T inscription there on the side.
03:31 And that follows all the way down the edge of the car.
03:33 Now this car can be optioned with a lot of stuff.
03:37 And while the base price of this is just over 90 grand,
03:39 this is fitted with like $30,000 worth of options.
03:42 And to be honest,
03:43 I can't really see $30,000 worth of options on this.
03:47 So yeah, keep that in mind when you're watching this review.
03:49 If you go to order one of these,
03:50 you are going to have to open up the purse
03:52 because the car with no options is pretty basic,
03:54 including on the safety front,
03:55 which I'll run you through later on.
03:56 Roof rails up the top here,
03:58 full glass roof optioned on this car.
04:00 Privacy glass.
04:01 And then whip around to the back,
04:03 more of a graphite finish on the top there on that spoiler
04:05 with a brake light built into there.
04:07 Little boot button just there.
04:09 I like this LED that runs along the back of the car
04:11 with indicators built into their full LED setup.
04:14 Porsche lettering there with Macan T.
04:16 And this also has the quad exhaust pipes.
04:19 This car is also optioned
04:20 with the optional sports exhaust system too.
04:23 So we'll see whether that sounds any good ones
04:25 that's on the move.
04:26 Now, let me know what you reckon about the Macan.
04:28 This has been out for ages now,
04:29 and they've kind of progressed the styling a little bit
04:33 as they've gone.
04:34 Keen to understand what you think of the design
04:35 and whether you think it actually still looks good.
04:37 Let me know what you think down in the comment section below.
04:39 So we're inside the Macan.
04:41 We'll start off with the key.
04:42 There it is there.
04:43 You've got unlock, lock, boot,
04:45 little Porsche logo up the top.
04:47 Love this.
04:48 It's in the shape of a car as well,
04:50 which I think is pretty cool.
04:51 As an option, you can also get this color-coded
04:54 to your car too.
04:55 And instead of a push button start,
04:57 you actually have like a faux key
04:58 that's built into the dashboard here.
05:00 So kind of something a little bit different and unique,
05:02 which I really like.
05:03 The layout of this, I also really like as well.
05:06 It's all very driver-centric.
05:07 Everything is right around me where it needs to be.
05:10 And it all looks really high-end and premium.
05:12 I think when you look at this sharing a platform
05:15 with other Volkswagen Group products,
05:16 you don't feel like you're just driving
05:18 another Volkswagen Group product.
05:19 This all feels quite unique to the Macan.
05:22 So I like that about it all.
05:25 And then when it comes to the touch points as well,
05:27 they've really just gone to town
05:28 on making sure everything feels nice and soft
05:32 and just high-end and premium,
05:33 which is exactly what you want for this kind of money.
05:35 That means that is, it is firm,
05:38 but it is sort of nice to lean your elbow on.
05:40 Same story on the door there.
05:41 How firm is it?
05:42 Well, we've got our durometer.
05:43 We've tested the main surfaces in this cabin.
05:45 If you want to see how this car compares to others
05:47 that we've tested before,
05:48 we'll look at the link in the description below.
05:50 Now, build quality.
05:51 What is that like?
05:52 Yeah, this is built like a tank.
05:57 It's all really nicely put together.
05:58 And then our door test.
05:59 (doorbell rings)
06:02 Sounds really nice and solid.
06:04 Now let's talk about infotainment.
06:05 So it all comes in the form of this 10.9 inch display here.
06:09 You can see there when my fingers approached it as well,
06:11 it actually has a sensor
06:13 so that it brings up additional context menus
06:16 and then it hides them away when they're not in use.
06:17 So you can see there, finger approach.
06:19 So it has inbuilt satellite navigation,
06:22 really high resolution screen as well.
06:24 So it's quite impressive there
06:25 in terms of the way that it looks.
06:27 In addition to that, you have AM/FM/DAB digital radio.
06:31 There are a raft of sound systems you can get with this car,
06:33 including an optional Bose sound system.
06:35 One fitted to this car is actually pretty good.
06:37 Quite impressed with that.
06:38 On the smartphone mirroring front, Android Auto,
06:41 sorry, no Android Auto here.
06:43 It is just Apple CarPlay and it's wireless Apple CarPlay.
06:46 I'll show you what that looks like.
06:48 The one disappointing thing with this is
06:50 I can't figure out how to make it go full screen.
06:52 This button doesn't do anything
06:53 and there's no sort of easy way here
06:55 that I can see to actually make that full screen.
06:57 So you're just lumped with this
06:59 strangely small Apple CarPlay set up there.
07:02 So yeah, if there is a way to do it,
07:04 let me know in the comment section below.
07:05 I certainly couldn't figure out how to do it
07:06 and I'm a male so I don't read manuals either.
07:10 Outside of that, look, the infotainment system
07:13 is a little bit fiddly to use while you're driving.
07:15 You do have a voice recognition system,
07:17 but I do find that when you are driving the car,
07:20 it just is all a little bit fiddly and hard to use.
07:23 So I'm hoping the next generation of this
07:26 actually has just a better thought out system
07:29 that doesn't require as much of your attention
07:30 if you do wanna do simple functions
07:32 while you are on the move.
07:34 Ahead of the driver, you do also have a little display
07:36 off to the side there as well
07:37 that you navigate through using these controls here.
07:41 It is a pretty good setup, no complaints from me there,
07:44 and it gives you all the useful information you need.
07:46 Plus then you still have some analog gauges
07:48 and I think that's what a Porsche is about,
07:49 some of that analog visceral feel,
07:52 and it's cool to see that that's there
07:53 along with Sport Chrono,
07:55 which comes standard here in the Macan T.
07:57 Now let's talk safety.
07:59 I'm a bit grumpy about this.
08:00 If you get the entry level Macan or the Macan T,
08:04 it doesn't actually have AEB,
08:06 which is the tech that stops the car if you don't.
08:08 Even the cheapest cars in Australia
08:11 come with that technology
08:12 and pretty much every other car on the market
08:14 has that technology, yet Porsche just doesn't include it
08:17 as standard on these two variants.
08:19 I just find that absolutely bizarre
08:22 and it is basic safety tech that should be standard.
08:24 So the only way you can get it and radar cruise control
08:27 is by optioning adaptive cruise control
08:30 as part of like a $1,600 package.
08:31 So very strange omission there,
08:34 but outside of that,
08:35 you do get an auto dimming rear vision mirror
08:37 and side mirrors.
08:38 You also get blind spot monitoring
08:39 built into the wing mirror.
08:41 In addition to the front and rear parking sensors,
08:43 you also have a 360 camera
08:44 and I'll show you what that looks like.
08:46 So there it is there.
08:47 Quality is actually not bad.
08:48 So it's not high resolution, but it's very clear
08:51 and you can see the top down view there.
08:53 You can also then adjust this as required.
08:56 You can also go wide angle if you need to,
08:58 and then you have the top down view as well
09:00 with your front and rear sonars too.
09:02 So not a bad setup
09:03 and it is good to see at least you get parking sensors
09:06 and a camera as standard equipment.
09:09 Now, what does the horn sound like?
09:10 Let's have a listen.
09:11 (horn honking)
09:14 Okay, let's talk about practicality
09:16 and we'll start off with your connectivity.
09:18 In the center console here, you have two USB-C ports,
09:21 an SD card slot and a SIM card slot.
09:24 Strangely, there's a 12 volt outlet in the boot
09:26 and there is one up the front here,
09:28 but it's hidden under here.
09:29 So you've got to take this rubber bit out
09:33 and it's kind of clipped into position.
09:35 It's a bit of a pain to get out.
09:37 There it is.
09:38 And there's your 12 volt outlet.
09:40 Very weird.
09:42 Anyway, it is there if you do need it.
09:44 There is no wireless phone charging,
09:46 which I reckon is a little bit disappointing
09:48 in a car that's modern in this day and age.
09:51 And in terms of phone storage,
09:52 you only really can store it here in the cup holder.
09:55 Actually, you can store it down there as well
09:56 without too many dramas.
09:58 Now, what about your cups and bottles?
10:00 So, coffee cup.
10:03 If you have a small coffee cup like I do,
10:05 it will get eaten alive by that slot.
10:07 You really have to sort of stack a set of keys
10:09 underneath it to prop it up a little bit.
10:11 Otherwise you will de-lid that
10:12 and you will get coffee everywhere in your nice Porsche.
10:15 Bottle fits in there with no dramas.
10:18 You've got nice teeth in there to hold it in.
10:20 Small bottle fits inside the door.
10:21 We'll try out the big bottle as well.
10:24 Look at that, piece of cake.
10:25 Very nice.
10:26 Other storage, you have this center console here
10:28 that slides forwards and backwards.
10:30 Very small slot in there.
10:32 And finally, you have a glove box as well
10:35 that isn't too badly sized.
10:37 Now, what about your comfort?
10:38 So, you have dual zone automatic climate control.
10:41 Love the way this works.
10:42 You've got these knurled switches
10:44 that you flick up and down to change temperature
10:46 and fan speed as well, which is pretty cool.
10:48 In this car, we have heated seats.
10:51 You can also see a litany of other buttons here
10:53 corresponding to particular options you have
10:56 depending on how much money you wanna spend.
10:58 In addition to that, what about your seats?
11:00 They are very comfortable.
11:01 I've spent a fair bit of time in this car now
11:03 and they are super nice to sit in.
11:05 Perforated as well to keep you nice and cool.
11:07 Love that red piping there.
11:08 You can also see it on the seatbelts too.
11:11 But, strange thing is the middle seatbelt
11:13 in the second row is black.
11:15 The rest of them are red,
11:15 so I don't know what happened there.
11:17 Porsche on this headrest here as well.
11:19 In terms of seat adjustment,
11:20 there is a litany of adjustments here.
11:21 So, you can go forwards, backwards.
11:24 Your backrest can go forwards, backwards.
11:26 You can lift the front of the seat.
11:27 You can lift the back of the seat.
11:29 Then you have adjustments for your bottom bolster,
11:31 your top bolster, and then your back bolster as well.
11:35 In addition to that, you have memory for the driver
11:38 and front passenger if you do select this seat option too.
11:41 So, stack a little options there.
11:43 In terms of steering wheel, it's manually adjustable.
11:46 You have both tilt and reach adjustment.
11:49 I love the steering wheel too.
11:50 It sits so nicely in the hand.
11:52 Little drive mode switch there as well.
11:54 All this stuff is easy to reach while you're driving.
11:57 Okay, second row of the Macan.
11:58 As you can see, there is not much room here at all.
12:01 So, my driver's seat is pretty far back,
12:04 which is my standard driving position,
12:05 but yeah, it's pretty appalling here.
12:08 So, knees are well and truly wedged into the seat.
12:11 Not a great deal of toe room.
12:12 Headroom is terrible as well.
12:14 Also noticed as well, when I go to close the door,
12:16 I have to kind of lean back to grab that handle
12:19 'cause it's so far back.
12:21 This car was launched in an era where
12:24 it wasn't good to have big, medium-sized SUVs,
12:28 but it's quite clear that that has changed
12:30 if you look at some of the competitors like the X3.
12:31 So, I think next generation of this
12:33 will hopefully have a much longer wheelbase
12:35 to afford a bit more room here.
12:37 So, in terms of other creature comforts,
12:38 this one is optioned with the third zone of climate control.
12:40 You've got air vents just here, two USB-C outlets as well,
12:45 center armrest, two cup holders.
12:48 So, the bottle fits in there without any dramas
12:51 and the bottle fits inside the door too, which is good.
12:54 Love that look there with the panoramic glass roof.
12:56 It kind of gives you a whole bunch of light inside the cabin.
12:59 Two ISOFIX points on the outboard seats
13:01 with three top tether points as well.
13:03 And now our window test.
13:06 So, it's auto up and down.
13:08 No, not quite.
13:10 So, let's talk cargo space.
13:14 Look, just inherently because of the body
13:16 and how small it is,
13:17 you don't get a huge amount of cargo space.
13:19 So, you have just over 450 litres.
13:21 The actual envelope here and the height is all okay.
13:24 And when you do get the air suspension,
13:26 you do get these buttons as well that you can use
13:28 to adjust the height of the cargo floor.
13:31 Down here, you've got a space saver spare.
13:33 So, it's one of those ones that you pump up
13:35 and it pops out.
13:36 Subwoofer there as well.
13:38 You've got a 12-volt outlet just off to the side
13:40 and some hooks as well.
13:41 Show you what it looks like with our bags in there.
13:43 So, lappy bag fits in fine.
13:45 And then suitcase fits in fine as well.
13:50 You can expand the space a little if you want to
13:52 to a little over 1500 litres
13:55 just by dropping the second row.
13:58 You can immediately see the problem there.
13:59 You have to move the front seat forward
14:01 if it's in the comfort position
14:03 to actually get your flat load floor.
14:04 But yeah, it does open it up to just over 1500 litres.
14:07 So, we've just hit the road in the Macan T.
14:12 Powering this is an interesting engine
14:14 'cause it's quite common in the Volkswagen world.
14:16 So, it's a two-litre turbocharged
14:18 four-cylinder petrol engine.
14:19 195 kilowatts of power and 400 newton metres of torque.
14:24 And that's all mated to a seven-speed
14:27 dual-clutch transmission.
14:28 It actually all works really well.
14:30 This isn't one of those dual-clutches,
14:32 and it's weird because it is in the Volkswagen world,
14:34 but it's not one of those dual-clutches
14:35 that is super fussy off the line.
14:37 I'll show you what I mean.
14:38 When you come to a stop here
14:39 with the stop/start system active,
14:42 bring that to a full stop, so that's switched off there,
14:46 it really just switches on imperceptibly.
14:48 And then when you roll onto the throttle,
14:50 everything's really nice and smooth.
14:52 There's none of that sort of jerkiness or elastic feel
14:54 that you get in some Volkswagen Group products,
14:57 which I think is excellent.
14:59 Then in terms of the rest of the feel,
15:00 even here in just the normal driving mode,
15:02 if you do go to dive onto the throttle,
15:05 it's quite responsive and nippy and ready to start moving.
15:08 There is no sort of real lag there.
15:10 You don't have to wait for it to change gears.
15:12 It just sort of gets on with things,
15:14 and it can lean on its torque band if it needs to as well.
15:16 So, it's quite a really nice engine for this size of car.
15:19 I did not think this engine would suit this car as much.
15:23 I really only thought the Macan was the type of car
15:25 you'd ever want to get with a V6, let alone a four-cylinder.
15:28 So, yeah, from a drivability point of view, it's pretty good.
15:31 If you do need to access instant zing at any point,
15:35 you just press this button here
15:36 in the centre of the drive mode selector.
15:38 It brings up the sport response for 20 seconds,
15:40 and that basically gives you maximum response
15:44 for that 20-second window,
15:45 and then once you deactivate it,
15:47 it goes back to normal driving.
15:48 So, I think that's a clever system
15:50 because it means you don't need to faff around
15:51 with drive modes, and so if you just have one button,
15:53 then you push, and then you just go straight
15:55 onto the throttle, and away you go.
15:56 So, pretty impressive setup there.
15:59 Let's talk fuel economy.
16:03 So, Porsche claims a combined average
16:04 of just under 10 litres per 100 k's.
16:07 We're currently sitting on 11.2.
16:09 It is worth keeping in mind that this is a press car,
16:12 so it does live a fairly hard life,
16:14 and we've had a spirited drive with it here today,
16:17 including a drag race with the BMW X3.
16:20 So, that video is live, click on the car
16:22 that you see on the screen there.
16:23 So, pretty happy with that figure,
16:25 given this is a pretty sporty car.
16:27 So, this uses a permanent all-wheel drive system.
16:30 If I flick through the right-hand side screen here,
16:32 I don't know if you can see that on the camera
16:34 'cause it's just sort of hidden away a little,
16:35 but it shows you where it's sending torque,
16:37 and this all-wheel drive system is rear-biased,
16:40 so it is predominantly sending torque to the rear axle.
16:43 That means that when you are going for a sportier drive
16:45 like we will shortly, you do feel that it is tucking
16:47 that rear in and really sending all of the torque
16:49 to the rear.
16:50 It doesn't feel like a front-wheel drive car
16:52 that is just waiting to lose traction on the front end
16:55 before it senses and sends torque to the rear axle.
16:58 It really is quite a dynamic vehicle
17:00 that does feel rear-biased.
17:02 Same goes for the steering.
17:03 Porsche steering is excellent.
17:05 Like, I haven't driven a Porsche before
17:07 that has terrible steering,
17:08 and this is certainly no exception.
17:10 Electrically-assisted steering rack,
17:11 just really nice and smooth.
17:12 Has a bit of weight to it, even in normal mode,
17:14 but just makes you feel like you're driving something sporty.
17:17 Okie dokie.
17:21 So, no one is immune from our sine wave test,
17:25 so let's get this up to 130.
17:27 It is the maximum speed limit here in Australia,
17:29 and also the speed you might hit on a country road
17:32 when you're overtaking.
17:34 And we wanna just have a little feel
17:36 of what the suspension system is like
17:38 once we hit some of these oscillations.
17:40 That is so nice.
17:44 It's like a beautiful cushion
17:45 with excellent body control at the top end.
17:47 That's because this car is optioned
17:49 with the adaptive air suspension,
17:51 and that means it is height adjustable.
17:53 It can go up and down as required.
17:54 So as you go through the different modes here,
17:56 including the off-road mode, it will go up or down.
17:59 And then in addition to that, it has adaptive damping,
18:01 so as you go through the drive modes,
18:02 it can then vary how firm the suspension is as well.
18:05 So it is a really nicely set-up system
18:08 that suits the character of the car beautifully.
18:11 Okay, drive modes.
18:13 So you flick this thing around,
18:15 you have normal, individual, sport, and sport plus.
18:19 Let's give sport plus a crack around the track here.
18:22 I can feel the car's lowering a bit.
18:24 It has got so much traction.
18:30 That is awesome.
18:32 Holding those revs beautifully in sport plus mode as well.
18:36 A little bark from the exhaust there too.
18:39 Far out.
18:41 The other thing is, this thing is impressive.
18:43 So we're talking about one up from the base model.
18:46 And it is driving like a go-kart.
18:50 Good response from the brakes there.
18:52 Plow it through this faster section
18:55 at the back of the track.
18:56 (laughs)
19:00 This is unreal.
19:02 It's actually surprising me how quickly this is moving for.
19:08 (car engine revving)
19:11 What is an entry-level Porsche like it is.
19:14 It is staggering.
19:15 It shows you don't need to spend ridiculous sum of money
19:18 to actually get a smile-inducing driver.
19:22 A plowed throttle down the back here.
19:25 See what that feels like.
19:26 There we go, it's just nudging 180 there.
19:28 Far out.
19:29 That is damn, damn impressive.
19:33 I was not expecting that.
19:34 It actually, look, for a platform that is this old,
19:37 it should not be as nimble and agile as it is just there.
19:40 That is so cool.
19:42 Very, very impressed there with the McCarty
19:44 in terms of handling.
19:45 Let's talk about the exhaust system.
19:49 So this has the optional exhaust.
19:51 You press this button here and then it opens the flaps.
19:55 Yeah, it has a bit of bark to it actually.
19:58 It doesn't sound too bad.
19:59 Okay, so let me put this back into normal mode.
20:02 Let's talk about how quiet it is in here.
20:05 There is a stack of tire noise coming in from those tires.
20:08 Here's one of the downsides.
20:10 The sportier the car is, the sportier the tires are,
20:12 and the more noise you get into the cabin.
20:14 So if you are driving on the freeway on a course chip road,
20:17 you will notice a fair bit of noise
20:19 coming into the cabin there.
20:20 Outside of that, it's pretty quiet.
20:22 You do get that rasp from the engine when it kicks on
20:24 to start yelling at you.
20:26 But outside of that, it's not too bad.
20:28 So are you gonna be doing any towing?
20:29 If so, you've got a 2000 kilogram brake to towing capacity.
20:32 Okay, Porsche time.
20:34 So yes, this does have launch control
20:36 and all that fun stuff,
20:37 but we will just start off in the regular driving mode.
20:40 Using our little switch here, we'll just leave it in normal.
20:43 I'm just gonna mash the throttle.
20:44 We'll get it up to 120 and have a look at our numbers
20:47 and see how we go.
20:48 All right, it's all set up and ready.
20:49 Here we go.
20:50 Hesitates a little bit, but man, it kicks on and moves.
20:57 Love that little bark from the exhaust as well.
21:00 All right, there's 120 there.
21:03 We'll just come to a stop.
21:04 So zero to 100, 6.99 seconds.
21:07 Still not too bad for just comfort mode
21:09 and just jumping on the throttle.
21:11 And 80 to 120 was 4.48 seconds.
21:14 So that's really impressive too.
21:15 It shows you that mid-range.
21:16 Has a fair bit of punch as well, which is nice.
21:19 All right, let's head back
21:21 and let's try a little bit of launch control this time.
21:24 Okay, so actually before we do launch control,
21:26 let me try sport mode.
21:27 I'll just see if I just go to like sport plus or something.
21:30 I'll see if it's any quicker than comfort
21:32 for just standing on the throttle.
21:34 So that's engaged the exhaust there.
21:36 It's also lowered the car a little bit
21:37 and firmed up the suspension.
21:39 So let's give this a shot.
21:40 I'm just gonna stand on the throttle.
21:41 We'll head over to 120 and we'll see what happens.
21:43 Here we go.
21:44 Does feel a little bit quicker.
21:50 Let's see what the numbers say.
21:53 Yeah, that does feel quicker.
21:58 All right, let's have a quick sticky beg here at the numbers.
22:01 Zero to 100, 6.63 seconds.
22:03 So it's about 0.4 of a second quicker in sport plus
22:07 than comfort without launch control.
22:08 And then 80 to 120 was 4.42 seconds,
22:12 which was almost the exact same, just slightly quicker.
22:16 So interesting.
22:17 All right, let's go back and do launch control this time.
22:20 Okay, let's go for gold here.
22:22 I'm gonna use launch control.
22:23 I'll be as aggressive as I can with it.
22:25 So I'll bring it to a stop.
22:27 I'm gonna press the stability control button once
22:29 to put it into that limited stability mode.
22:31 To activate launch control, foot hard on the brake,
22:33 hard on the throttle.
22:34 It'll come up saying launch control ready.
22:37 And then I'll just dump the brake and away we go.
22:38 So here we go.
22:39 Rebs right up, doesn't it?
22:42 Punch in the back.
22:44 All right.
22:45 All the way through to 120.
22:48 Yeah, that feels significantly quicker.
22:53 All right, let's have a little sticky beg
22:55 at the number that we land on there.
22:57 Nice, so zero to 100 in 5.86 seconds.
23:01 That is significantly quicker than the claimed time.
23:03 The claimed time is 6.2.
23:04 So that's not too bad at all.
23:07 Very impressed with that.
23:08 And then on our 80 to 120, 4.46 seconds,
23:11 which is almost identical to our last run as well.
23:15 So pretty impressive figures there from this
23:18 for a two litre four cylinder.
23:20 And it weighs more than the X3 as well.
23:22 So nice and hardy numbers.
23:24 Let's try a 100 to zero stop
23:26 and see how quickly this thing pulls up
23:27 with the big old brakes that it has.
23:29 Okay, we'll get her up to 100 Ks an hour.
23:31 We're just above and I'm gonna jam the anchors on.
23:34 Let's see how quickly we stop.
23:37 There's 100 there.
23:40 100 to zero, 2.64 seconds.
23:50 Oh, this is interesting.
23:52 And 36.97 metres.
23:55 So there you go.
23:56 Okay, time for our reverse acceleration test.
23:59 See how quick it is in reverse.
24:01 All right, pump that into reverse.
24:04 Got it in sport plus.
24:06 Stand on throttle.
24:07 Jesus.
24:10 70 Ks an hour.
24:13 That is awesome.
24:16 It slingshots to 72.
24:18 It really just picks up and moves.
24:20 Very impressive.
24:22 (engine revving)
24:25 Oh my God, the fly situation is out of control,
24:29 especially on the front here.
24:31 We've assaulted a lot of bugs
24:32 and they're all feasting on that at the moment.
24:34 Anyway, so Porsche Macan.
24:37 I tell you what, I was not expecting to like this
24:39 as much as I did.
24:40 Getting the four cylinder just,
24:42 I don't know, just doesn't seem like a good idea.
24:44 But then you drive it and you're like,
24:45 "Well, I don't really need the V6."
24:47 And I can save a whole bunch of money
24:48 just by going the four cylinder.
24:49 And when you compare this to stuff like the X3,
24:52 which is more expensive, yes, it is a bigger vehicle,
24:54 has some newer tech and that sort of stuff.
24:57 This actually still is pretty good value for money
24:59 for what you're getting.
25:00 And it is so much fun to drive,
25:01 especially if you find yourself a nice stretch of road.
25:04 So cannot wait to see what they do
25:05 with the next generation of this,
25:07 especially given how much life
25:08 they got out of this platform here.
25:10 So let me know in the comment section below,
25:11 have you bought a Macan?
25:13 What's it like to live with?
25:14 These flies are insane.
25:16 What's it like to live with?
25:17 And would you buy one again?
25:19 Let me know down there.
