Bengals RB Chase Brown on Return to Field
Transcript
00:00 just persevere through that and just push through and trust their plan and
00:03 you know the way I'm feeling right now I'm feeling really good.
00:07 Frustrating? I mean it seemed like you were just starting to get some more reps and get more involved.
00:10 Yeah, a little bit frustrating in that way but you know it's a long season.
00:16 There's gonna be opportunity and I just gotta make sure I'm ready when that opportunity comes.
00:20 How hard is that because you know a lot of times for rookies it's just this gradual build.
00:24 You just keep stacking things on top and then you have this four-week reset.
00:27 How hard is that as a hurdle to come back from?
00:30 I don't look at it as a hurdle.
00:33 Like I said, I took advantage of the four weeks off manually.
00:37 I'm just trying to come back as strong as I can.
00:40 What did you do? Just stay in the book?
00:42 Stay in the book, prepare as if I was playing each and every day.
00:47 That's the best way I could have gone about it.
00:50 Do you feel confident? I know it's not your decision but do you feel confident you can play this week?
00:54 Obviously, it's on my hand but the way I'm feeling right now, I'm confident I could go out there and play to my fullest.
01:02 How important was it, Chase, for you to go through the rehab, the period you were on injured reserve,
01:08 not trying to push it too hard, temper yourself but make the steady progress?
01:13 Extremely important. I mean, you don't want to push a hamstring injury.
01:16 It's like having a flat tire and putting a bad patch over top and then it's just blowing again.
01:22 Taking the time to heal, taking the time to work my way back to field drills and football-related drills was important
01:34 because the way that I felt a couple days ago running on the field, I felt really good.
01:38 So it's just building on that and going into these next coming weeks with a full head of steam and confidence.
01:46 Back at a time where it seems like they're going to need everyone that they can to kind of step up,
01:51 do you feel in that regard maybe it's a good opportunity for you?
01:54 I mean, there's so many good players in this locker room, just like Coach said.
01:58 So just being able to rely on one another and go out there and compete the best we can is the most important thing we can do.
02:05 So obviously, there will be opportunity there for everybody but if my name is called, I just want to be ready.
02:11 How did it happen in practice? Did you slip or did you just feel a grab?
02:13 It was during a special teams drill. My whole mindset was that, just go as fast as I can.
02:19 I mean, I want as many full speed reps as I can running down.
02:23 So when it comes to game day, it's not my first time doing it.
02:27 The same mindset with the 40. It's like the first time you're on the 40 isn't--
02:31 the first time you run full speed in the 40 isn't going to be the first time you're on the 40.
02:34 You're going to run full speed a couple times before.
02:36 So that's kind of my mindset when it comes to kickoff is I want as many full speed reps as I can.
02:40 And so when game day comes around, it's the norm.
02:43 Were you returning a kick or were you on kick coverage?
02:45 Kick coverage.
02:46 Yeah.
02:47 [inaudible]
02:49 Kind of shocking disappointment of Joe's injury.
02:51 Is there a little bit of a reset at the beginning of the week of, you know, all right, here we go.
02:55 We're back at it.
02:57 Yeah, in a way, we're just-- we're just doing our job each and every day.
03:02 Joe's obviously a huge part of this team, but just having him around.
