00:09 Leighton's not for sale! Leighton's not for sale!
00:16 I'm delighted to see such a big crowd here today to rally against the proposed changes to the Water Act.
00:22 Thank you all for taking the time to be here, it's just great.
00:26 Rallies like these are a last resort in our efforts to get our voices heard by government
00:33 and to single out how critically important the matter is for our community.
00:37 Let's be clear, the latest changes being proposed about how the Murray-Darling Basin Plan will be delivered
00:43 will hurt local farmers who are committed to stay farming,
00:47 will hurt our businesses, will hurt our workers and hurt our town.
00:51 [Trumpet fanfare]
00:58 [Applause]
01:05 To the people in Parliament that are pushing for this, 15% is just a number on a piece of paper to them.
01:09 It won't have a negative impact on their lives or the community they live in.
01:13 But in reality, for us here in Leighton, if some of us have to reduce each department by just one shift,
01:18 these are the faces of the people who will lose their jobs.
01:21 In a town our size, it's just devastating.
01:24 So we need to support our communities, support our farmers to do what they do best and not make it any harder.
01:30 Keep farmers farming, keep workers working, keep Leighton thriving.
01:35 I don't think we can do better than that, I want you guys to all lift your signs up when you say that.
01:38 Number one, keep farmers farming, keep workers working, keep Leighton thriving.
