Generative AI Pioneer Sam Altman Forced Out of OpenAI in Surprise Move
  • 5 months ago
Sam Altman's abrupt firing from his role as CEO of OpenAI came as a shock, as he had been actively promoting the company and AI industry in his public appearances up until his dismissal. Altman spoke at OpenAI's DevDay on November 6th where he announced new products and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella made a surprise appearance to discuss their partnership. Altman was informed of his firing by cofounder Ilya Sutskever in a meeting with board members on Friday where he was dismissed. OpenAI president Greg Brockman was also stripped of his chairman role but remained as president, though he later resigned as well. The board said it no longer had confidence in Altman's ability to lead OpenAI but did not cite any specific reasons for his dismissal.
