00:03 It felt like head coach Bill Belichick was trying to send a pretty direct message

00:07 when he benched Mac Jones last week against the Colts after one of three

00:11 disastrous decisions in the red area,

00:14 despite Mac Jones actually being pretty solid for the rest of the game.

00:17 Now, Jones did take five sacks in the first half,

00:20 which seemed to eat away a bit of his confidence and led to just poor decision

00:24 making and a lack of poise in critical situations that ultimately cost New

00:28 England a chance at winning the game.

00:29 Now things didn't get much better when Bailey Zappi entered the game,

00:32 as he had a pretty perplexing interception of his own.

00:35 But it begged the question of whether or not we're gonna see Mac Jones

00:38 as the starting quarterback when the Patriots play the Giants after this week's

00:42 bye.

01:05 it seemed like Mac Jones was the top dog.

01:07 But we did see a rotation at offensive line and wide receiver,

01:11 which made it tough to see exactly who was quarterbacking the top unit.

01:15 But still, Mac Jones was the first player up in these opportunities, and

01:19 it seemed like he's going to remain the top dog thus far.

01:23 That said, my opinion has been that Mac Jones is the only real starting option for

01:28 New England, just because of a lack of developmental talent behind him.

01:32 There's no putting in someone else like Bailey Zappi to see what they could give

01:35 you, as Zappi struggled all summer and hasn't looked good in relief duty for

01:39 Mac Jones.

01:41 Well, Greer may be someone that fans wanna see get an opportunity, but

01:44 Bill Belichick acknowledged that Greer hasn't gotten a lot of chances in practice

01:48 to work with the top unit of receivers.

01:51 Now, if Mac Jones does end up on the bench against the Giants,

01:55 I think it's gonna be for one of two reasons.

01:57 The first is that Bill Belichick wants to send a message to his team

02:00 that turning the ball over and

02:02 putting the team in positions to lose the game simply won't be tolerated.

02:06 The other option would be if Bill Belichick wants to bench Mac Jones,

02:10 because he's genuinely worried that Jones has lost his confidence,

02:14 which could continue to erode with more playing time.

02:17 Now, that wouldn't be the craziest thing in the world,

02:19 as Mac Jones is clearly deteriorating on an almost weekly basis,

02:23 especially with the offensive line not picking up the slack for

02:26 him last week in Germany.

02:27 I do think a better offensive line performance could potentially lead to

02:30 better results for Mac, but he's been making bad decisions on a weekly basis.

02:36 And last week was just an example of those bad decisions coming back to bite

02:39 him at the worst possible time.
