The Las Vegas Raiders OC Bo Hardegree spoke at his weekly press conference Miami Dolphins week.
Transcript
00:00 >> When you're playing a team like the Wyoming Dolphins,
00:02 the score points, it's pretty obvious they're one of the better offenses in
00:06 the NFL.
00:06 Did that change your approach at all as a play caller?
00:09 >> Well, as a play caller, we approach every week.
00:12 Yes, that's important.
00:14 But we're right there at the early stages, putting our plan together.
00:18 We're in the middle of meetings and
00:20 then getting the information to our guys sometime this afternoon.
00:23 >> After the game, Josh actually said that the 40 yard run was,
00:28 thanks to Greg Benreton telling him to cut back inside after going outside.
00:33 With everything that Greg has kind of been able to provide to the team,
00:36 how useful has he been on that offensive line?
00:38 >> He's been great, he has been.
00:39 I've been very proud of him and the rest of the guys.
00:43 They've been the core of what we've tried to instill,
00:46 the physicality that we're trying to bring and the patience that they have.
00:50 And it was really exciting to see once we got it going the other night in
00:54 the run game, and it was a big play.
00:57 >> Along those lines, you talked about the communication you have with players
01:01 about what they like to do.
01:03 Now when your players communicate with players about plays and
01:07 how to execute things, is that the environment you're trying to foster?
01:09 >> Yeah, I think that's what it's all about.
01:11 This is constant communication, even when everything's going good or
01:16 when you face adversity.
01:17 That's the important thing, is you're always talking.
01:19 >> Coach, you kind of spoke about how they reacted after facing adversity.
01:23 Can you speak about what you saw in terms of the team's demeanor after Aiden's
01:27 interception, after the fumble?
01:28 Seems like they didn't miss a beat.
01:29 >> Yeah, they're poised, poised, still had confidence.
01:34 They knew, they knew, and I was proud of them for that.
01:37 And I told them I'll stay aggressive and I'll stay patient though as well for them.
01:41 >> 100 yards for running back is just kind of an arbitrary number that we've just
01:46 picked as this threshold, but for Josh to finally get that for the run game,
01:50 I guess, what does that do for their confidence?
01:52 And how important was it to finally have that game?
01:55 >> Yeah, that's great for everybody.
01:57 I mean, that's where it starts.
01:59 It starts every week up front and those guys and
02:03 that's everybody involved to the offensive line, the tight ends.
02:07 They played really physical, did a really good job.
02:09 Obviously, the halfback and the receivers too are very involved in the run game.
02:13 >> So speaking to that point, coach, I think Aiden's first four passes went to
02:18 Devontae, how much did the success there, again, help out the running game?
02:22 Because Devontae was already getting involved early.
02:24 >> Yeah, it always does.
02:25 It always goes hand in hand.
02:27 The run game, if it's a successful run game,
02:29 it's gonna help the pass game and vice versa.
02:31 >> Coach, Pierce talked about that fourth down play, just having a play that you
02:37 guys really liked to be able to run and actually executing it in that situation.
02:42 Is that a play you knew going into the week at some point you were gonna be able
02:45 to use and it was gonna work whenever you needed it?
02:47 >> Absolutely, I was saving it for a fun time.
02:50 It showed up and like I said,
02:53 I have the utmost confidence our guys, we were five for five in short yardage.
02:57 Whether it's third or fourth down and they did a great job executing.
03:02 I was very proud of them.
03:03 >> I know we've talked a lot this year before you had to win this role and
03:09 after about Devontae's involvement and how much you wanna give the ball and
03:12 how much you try to give the ball.
03:13 He had 90% of the intended area yards this week.
03:16 Is that too much or did you like the level that they were at?
03:20 >> Ain't nothing's too much.
03:22 I was happy with how we started the game and just being patient though.
03:29 And I think across the board, it's just the guys, they show a lot of poise.
03:34 Cuz they know, they're confident, they know they're good players and
03:36 we got good playing together and it'll come to them.
03:40 We're playing a really good football team.
03:42 >> Well, from a process standpoint, are you just working off the playbook that was
03:47 here or do you actually draw up new plays and install them during the week?
03:52 >> There's a twist here and there.
03:54 But our core is our core.
03:56 We're in this part of the season and it would be,
04:00 it's advantageous to stick to the terminology that we know.
04:05 But it's purely, like I said, the first meeting we had is, it's the execution and
04:08 it's the confidence within that to do that.
04:11 >> I've talked to play callers and
04:13 office coordinators who might see something on TV, a college game.
04:17 Are you one of those that kind of- >> I'm always, I'm always-
04:19 >> Steel agent.
04:20 >> Yeah, I watch a lot of film.
04:21 My dad's high school coach, college football on Saturdays.
04:26 And then obviously, what's going on on Sundays.
04:28 I mean, that's my job.
04:30 >> I guess last week was going to the first game was so chaotic,
04:35 so many different things happened.
04:36 Did this feel like more of a normal week and
04:38 were you just a lot more comfortable week two than week one?
04:42 >> Yeah, it was great.
04:44 We got a full week and kind of got our schedule together.
04:47 You work from the organization part and AP's done a great job
04:52 with spearheading all that for us.
04:54 And then for me for the offensive side, just getting us a daily schedule,
04:58 a routine, which is important, and that carrying over to this week.
05:02 >> When you watch back the film, Jermaine switching over to the left side attack,
05:07 obviously that's a lot to ask a player through the middle of the season.
05:09 How do you think he responded?
05:11 >> Yeah. >> The line in general,
05:12 how did it look?
05:12 >> Absolutely, I was very proud of them.
05:15 They played physical and we knew that was gonna be a good defensive line and
05:21 I thought they did really well.
05:23 >> [INAUDIBLE]
