Transcript
00:00 In Cavite, dead fish are being spread that are causing a lot of trouble to the residents because of its foul smell.
00:07 This is what Cavite LGU and B4 reported.
00:11 Ryan Lesigas has the report.
00:12 Four trucks full of dead fish were caught from this area of Barangay 62A, Kangkong, Cavite City.
00:24 You'd think that this is enough.
00:27 The dead fish are still in their cages. Using PPE from the pandemic, this group of adults went under the houses.
00:37 Not to catch the alive fish, but to remove the cages of the dead fish.
00:43 [Speaking in Tagalog]
01:01 According to the residents, the day the dead fish started to increase, a few hours later, the smell of foul smell spread throughout the area.
01:14 This part of Barangay 62A is now a ghost town after the residents here were evacuated because of the foul smell coming from the houses because of the dead fish.
01:26 Yesterday, the authorities were able to track down the dead fish. But until now, the dead fish are still hiding under the houses.
01:38 The smell is so bad that you can't even accept that you're poor, especially if you're eating here.
01:44 You can still accept the smell of our poop, but they are really foul.
01:49 The people here are really poor because of the foul smell.
01:53 The residents of the area are convinced that the fish are not from the fish pond, which is called Tilapian Gloria.
02:01 No one is taking care of that fish because it's so cheap. The only thing that the fish pond takes care of is fish and Tilapian Gloria.
02:11 But that fish is so cheap. It's because there's no oxygen under the sea.
02:17 They're making a hole and digging in Manila Bay.
02:22 That has a big effect because the fish are stuck. There's no oxygen, that's why they're hiding.
02:28 The local government of Cavite is now making it easier to find the dead fish.
02:34 Mayor Denver Chua also assured the affected families that he will help.
02:39 This will be a big problem because in our barangay, in barangay 62A, there are many people who rely on the sea.
02:47 But with what happened, of course, they can't swim.
02:51 And second, our fish and oyster farms in the area might be affected.
02:58 That's why we are closely monitoring the situation in the area.
03:01 The people of BIFAR also went to the area to get samples of dead fish to be examined.
03:09 I'm taking this opportunity to ask for help from our national government agencies.
03:15 If possible, we hope to get attention and help the affected families.
03:22 Because of the smell, the classes in the area have been suspended.
03:28 Currently, 30 families have been evacuated.
03:31 But if the situation gets worse, it could reach 500 families.
03:37 Ryan Lizigas for the morning show of the country, Rise and Shine, Philippines.
