Zac Taylor on Bengals' Loss to Texans
Transcript
00:00 give them a lot of credit. I thought that they played hard. They coached hard.
00:03 They did a great job and they, you know, ultimately they beat us fair and
00:09 square and that was disappointing.
00:11 The offense kind of had a stretch where you struggled to get any kind of rhythm out.
00:16 Yeah, no rhythm. You know, just the first first down, a lot of three and outs.
00:20 That was really, that was just the issue, was just getting that first first down
00:23 and trying to get in some sort of rhythm so we can we can get some things going
00:26 and just weren't able to do that in the first half.
00:28 You think was behind so many explosive from your defense today to allow that from Houston?
00:34 I thought, you know, they did a good job. They got explosive players.
00:36 Their quarterback created. A lot of those explosives were extended plays, you know,
00:41 where he got outside the pocket and found open guys and so again, credit them.
00:45 They made the plays. Their guys did a great job.
00:48 What was the conversation like after the interception from KM, Gary Dunlap?
00:54 Is there anything that you kind of told the team?
00:55 What was the energy like on the sidelines as you all went back out there?
00:59 No, it's just getting the play called and go score a touchdown.
01:04 The last drive, the second down draw, was that a check at the line?
01:10 Was that on the play call?
01:11 Yeah, we called several plays and they emptied the box and they must have had some good line movement.
01:15 And then the third down play, did you like the look you got just a play the way it did make?
01:20 Yeah, I mean, that's a play. It doesn't come down to that play.
01:23 You know, there's plenty of plays over the course of the game
01:24 that we could have gotten more points off of.
01:27 Had some empty drives there, but you know, had a good look at it there.
01:31 TV rarely drops passes. Do you say anything to him?
01:35 No, no. Everybody knows, you know, and again,
01:39 he's going to put a lot on himself because it was the end of the game,
01:41 but there's so many opportunities we had over the course of the game.
01:43 So, you know, all players and coaches, all of us,
01:47 there's a lot of things that we could have done better if we weren't in that position.
01:52 Did Jamar deal with the fact that that's how he was using the game plan all day?
01:55 Or was he pretty much...
01:57 There were some times, you know, that I wanted to be mindful of that,
02:00 but his message was just keep using me.
02:03 What's it like when you hear that from one of your top players?
02:05 That's good. I feel like he had a good mindset coming into the game,
02:09 wanted to compete, wanted to help our team.
02:11 He certainly did that today.
02:12 And so it's any time that you get a guy like Jamar out there on the field,
02:16 it raises the entire team, raises the whole stadium.
02:18 And so I was proud of him for fighting through that and coming out there today.
02:22 And making some big plays for us.
02:23 Zach, these last three years,
02:26 a familiar spot for you guys, five and four, got to have a game on deck.
02:29 What's your message to the team this week?
02:31 Just we got to focus on a big one this Thursday.
02:34 What enabled the offense to kind of find some, you know,
02:36 after kind of being ineffective early on?
02:37 First downs, just getting a first down.
02:39 You know, that was just a lot of second and eights,
02:42 a lot of first down, two-yard gains, second and eight,
02:45 find ourself in third, self-third downs.
02:47 So just getting that first-first down allowed us to open it up and get going.
02:50 What makes their offense so tough to contain?
02:53 They got a lot of playmakers.
02:54 They do a good job with the scheme.
02:55 Their quarterback is not playing like a rookie.
02:58 So I think you got to give credit to everybody involved in that.
03:01 You know, that's, again, coaching staff, all units of their players.
03:06 You know, they play very disciplined and they play with a lot of confidence.
03:09 Interceptions lead by Burrow there, kind of pushing the ball.
03:13 Second one certainly was aggressive throw.
03:15 Were you kind of saying like, let's try,
03:18 time's going down, let's try to be a little more aggressive?
03:20 Or is that just a learning point there?
03:22 You know, the last one is harder.
03:24 That's on the one area of the field I can't see what's going on there.
03:27 So we'll have to watch the tape and see how it went there.
03:30 Zach, you don't usually see against your defense receivers
03:33 running as open as they were today.
03:35 What did you see from the other sidelines?
03:37 Again, I thought they did a good job with their calls,
03:41 getting their guys in a really good position.
03:43 And some of those were extended plays, you know, where guys stick with them.
03:47 When he, we kept, you know, he's running naked to the left
03:49 and he's coming back to the right and throwing across his body
03:51 and some things you don't see very often.
03:54 And it provided them with some open receivers.
03:57 How did Jamar's limitations and also no tee
04:00 make that kind of unique preparation for this game?
04:04 It's just playing ball in the NFL week nine, whatever week it is.
04:07 That's just the way it goes.
04:08 Some guys are going to be able to practice a lot.
04:09 Some guys aren't.
04:11 I didn't think anything felt too unique.
04:13 Our guys, our guys behind Jamar were ready to go, you know,
04:16 and so those guys welcomed the opportunity
04:18 and we were ready to use them.
04:20 Defensively, did you feel at any point
04:22 that the defense was trying to make too many big plays,
04:24 punch the ball out rather than just make the tackle?
04:26 No, I think that's kind of what Houston's done a good job of lately.
04:29 You know, they've been explosive
04:30 and their guys are playing with a lot of confidence.
04:32 Is the fact that Trey Hendrickson walked off on his own power any current?
04:36 I don't know yet. You know, I don't know.
04:37 It was his last play out there, so remains to be seen.
