00:00 But thoughts on the guy who will probably be the primary guy covering you,
00:04 Sauce Gardner.
00:05 First all team all pro in a rookie year since Ronnie Lott.
00:10 Thoughts on going up against him and what he brings.
00:13 >> Well, he can take that off the all pros and pro pros.
00:17 That don't mean nothing to me.
00:19 He's a good player for sure.
00:21 He's got a good take and he's got a lot of good measure balls.
00:24 He's deserving of the attention that he's gotten for
00:26 sure since he's been in late with bringing up the first team all pro and all that.
00:30 But you gotta line it up every snap at the end of the day.
00:33 So the past accomplishments and stuff don't mean anything for anybody.
00:38 Especially in this instance.
00:40 >> You guys, last week was kind of a condensed week with everything that
00:43 happened.
00:44 Now that you have a full week here, do you anticipate maybe some more changes to
00:48 the office or more wrinkles that you guys can put in?
00:52 >> Yeah, we won't change up too much.
00:54 But obviously, you'll watch the tape and then adjust.
00:56 You'll see yourself who you're playing against and
00:58 try to put a good plan together to attack them.
01:00 So I'm sure we'll, I mean, for the most part, it's about the same anyway.
01:04 We come in on Wednesday, we came in on Wednesday,
01:06 we started with the game plan and everything last week.
01:08 So it's not gonna be much different.
01:11 >> Tony, you talked about playing with emotion, not sustainably going forward.
01:15 I guess what is sustainable and
01:16 what are the things you kind of aim to to get yourselves ready for this thing?
01:20 >> Well, I mean, it's sustainable if you know how to manage it and
01:25 use it correctly, but we just, I mean, the thing that's sustainable is just our
01:30 attitude and our energy and our focus moving forward as a team.
01:33 And I think all those pieces are in place right now.
01:37 It's just a matter of just keeping that going and
01:40 keeping everybody positive in the midst of adversity.
01:43 Not everything's gonna go as smoothly as it did last week.
01:46 So just understanding that and doing something about it when we have time.
01:51 >> Aiden said he's learning how to be a pro quite a bit from you.
01:55 What do you see from him right now, getting ready for the Jets?
01:58 >> He just continues to show just the right way.
02:03 I mean, he's the way he take care of his body, his attention to detail.
02:07 He's here early, he's here late.
02:08 So it's impressive to see because it's been a lot of things,
02:15 a lot of distractions in the way he's been one of the most focused people probably in
02:19 his building since the beginning.
02:21 And just waiting on this opportunity and not preying on anybody's downfall, but
02:25 just there.
02:26 And the fact that his number gets called and it has a couple times and
02:30 he's answered.
02:31 So he's got a lot that he's done to feel confident about moving forward.
02:34 He's gotta stay with it.
02:36 >> In the locker room after this, you, Josh, Max,
02:38 giving out game calls to the junior athlete.
02:41 How unique is that for a guy who's been around like you and just helped him?
02:44 >> Yeah, school is definitely different for me to do that.
02:48 I've done it before with Matt LaFleur at the beginning of his career with
02:51 the Packers.
02:52 But being in that situation, obviously, it was a lot of energy in that locker room.
02:57 So it was deserving.
02:58 It wasn't just a charity thing we were doing.
03:00 We knew the guys played well.
03:01 Aiden stepped up, he took control of the offense, took control of the huddle.
03:04 And he was locked in all week.
03:06 And immediately soon as he knew he was the guy moving forward,
03:10 you could see that ownership and that confidence that's in there.
03:14 And I had actually talked to him.
03:16 We were walking out of the game, or walking out of the locker room together.
03:20 Had nobody see our families, and I just kinda told him that, man,
03:22 you got a confidence and a swagger out there.
03:24 And it's different.
03:25 It's not loud, it's not showboating and stuff like that.
03:28 But it's just a sense of I belong.
03:30 He certainly does, so it's good that he's got that.
03:33 >> What kind of impact does Max have, not just on the defense, but
03:37 the entire team from a leadership standpoint?
03:39 >> Yeah, from a leadership standpoint, or whatever word.
03:44 >> [LAUGH] I couldn't say it.
03:47 >> He's a great leader, and he's the ultimate lead by example guy.
03:53 He does everything the right way as far as his process and
03:57 the way he goes about just being locked in and
03:59 meetings verbally speaking to the team.
04:02 Really in every single way, he kinda embodies what it means to be a captain.
04:07 He pushes me in times where I'm on the drought or whatever.
04:12 And it's kinda hard to keep going myself.
04:15 I just go out there sometimes and watch him, and I told him actually today,
04:18 I'll stand up and watch him on the sideline when they're out there.
04:22 And it'll give me some juice just seeing how hard he plays.
04:24 And for him to be as good of a player as he is, and to have that motor and
04:28 that type of tenacity and intentionality for what he does,
04:32 I mean, it's really unheard of.
04:33 I don't think I've ever seen it.
04:34 I've seen it from guys like Aaron, but the strain is different for
04:39 a quarterback than it is for a defensive player.
04:41 And it's definitely fun to watch.
04:45 >> Did you feel like Max getting the team cigars and everything,
04:48 that's kind of reestablishing what this franchise was about,
04:52 kind of rebel identity, do your own thing, not as corporate as maybe other teams.
04:57 And what do you think of all that and the culture of the team?
05:00 >> Well, I don't look at the cigars thing as something that's not as corporate.
05:03 I mean, it's definitely different in the middle of the season.
05:06 But at the end of the day, this building and
05:11 anybody that's dealt with the type of adversity that we have this year,
05:13 and just ups and downs, and all the negative attention, and a lot of drama and
05:17 stuff, they'll never understand why we had that feeling and
05:21 why it led to cigars being lit in the locker room.
05:25 Obviously, not everybody agrees with it, but you won't last in this league if you
05:30 care too much about what other people think and how they feel about what you do.
05:33 You're not a part of this team.
05:35 It's gonna be hard to understand why it was necessary to happen.
05:38 We're not gonna light up cigars every single week, but
05:41 based off of the changes that were made and the way that this team got together,
05:45 it was definitely warranted for something like that to happen.
05:48 Now we just gotta make it normal.
05:50 That way we don't have to light cigars in the locker room after regular season.
