Chrysler Firepower
Transcript
00:00 For the 2005 Detroit Auto Show, Chrysler tapped their corporate inner child and let
00:28 imagination run wild.
00:30 The result, three concept vehicles, Wild, Wilder, and Wildest.
00:37 Jeep isn't currently in the pickup truck business, but their Gladiator concept offers a glimpse
00:42 of what a rugged Jeep pickup of the future might look like.
00:46 The Gladiator's 4 by 5 foot 8 inch cargo bed is expandable.
00:51 A conventional mid-gate extends the bed into the cabin, increasing cargo capacity length
00:57 one full foot or even to 8 feet 11 inches total with the tailgate lowered.
01:04 Power comes from the current Jeep Liberty in the form of a 2.8 liter 4 cylinder turbo
01:09 diesel.
01:10 It makes 163 horsepower, 295 pound feet of torque with output routed through a 6 speed
01:16 manual transmission.
01:19 Looking for a capable grand touring car, but a Viper is just a little too over the top
01:25 and a Corvette not quite exclusive enough?
01:28 How about a Chrysler Firepower?
01:30 This two seat rear drive concept is built on the Dodge Viper SRT 10 chassis, but in
01:36 the place of the V10 is the 6.1 liter Hemi V8, still no slouch at 425 horsepower.
01:45 But the suspension has been softened to provide the comfort and refinement of say an Aston
01:50 Martin.
01:52 Performance doesn't suffer excessively though.
01:54 Estimates are that 0 to 60 would take less than 5 seconds.
01:59 The classic silhouette is anchored by 19 inch tires in front and 20's in the rear wrapped
02:04 around massive aluminum billet wheels.
02:07 Inside soft leather and polished wood provide uncommon luxury in the domestic sport car
02:13 class.
02:14 Although not slated for production, Chrysler execs say this would be an ideal model in
02:20 their line up.
02:22 There's nothing humble or understated about the Jeep Hurricane.
02:26 The Chrysler group says it's simply the most maneuverable, most capable and most powerful
02:32 4x4 ever built.
02:34 The Hurricane's extreme maneuverability is the result of skid steer and tow steer capability,
02:41 which gives the driver the ability to turn both front and rear wheels inward.
02:46 So this vehicle has a turning radius of zero.
02:50 It turns within its own wheel base.
02:52 Power comes from not one but two 5.7 liter Hemi engines, one front, one rear.
02:59 Combined output of 670 horsepower and 740 pound feet of torque.
03:05 From the 2005 Detroit Auto Show, this is John Mathias for Motor Trend.
