00:27 Hello and welcome to Full English, a show that combines politics with not using the same language as Dominic Cummings.
00:34 Boris Johnson's former Chief of Staff appeared before the Covid inquiry this week and came across as...
00:40 not very nice? Let's get into it.
00:44 Firstly, I think we have to get into Mr Cummings' language.
00:47 He used words about female colleagues nobody should ever, ever use.
00:51 He called ministers things we can't repeat,
00:53 and after being confronted with his own misogynistic language, insisted he wasn't misogynistic because he was rude about men as well.
01:01 What a charmer.
01:03 The Vote Leave runner had a reputation for being abrasive,
01:06 but that Boris Johnson and others didn't at any point call him out doesn't speak to a professional culture in Downing Street or across Westminster more broadly.
01:15 Shock.
01:17 Mr Cummings also labelled Matt Hancock a liar whose actions were killing people, something he denies.
01:22 The former top civil servant Helen McNamara claimed the Prime Minister was laughing at Italy as people died,
01:28 and Patrick Balances diary showed the Prime Minister called Covid "nature's way of dealing with old people".
01:34 We knew Downing Street was a mess, but this inquiry has laid bare it's even worse than we thought.
01:40 I'm not saying it's going to change people's minds, but it's a very, very bad look for the government.
01:46 So what have we learned?
01:48 Firstly, that the 100 Tory MPs who wanted Boris Johnson to come back after his truss probably aren't regretting that he didn't.
01:55 And secondly, Rishi Sunak is somehow managing to avoid all blame so far.
02:01 Until next time, I've been Alexander Brown and you haven't.
