00:00 Rey Mysterio is the greatest luchador of all time and it's not even slightly close.
00:04 Well maybe La Parker, but other than that when you consider how good Rey has been, for
00:08 how long he's been that good, there's no one else that can boast the legacy that the
00:12 master of the 619 has, although the less said about that time in WCW where he had actual
00:16 devil horns on his head, the better.
00:19 Whether it's in ECW, WCW, AAA, WWE, New Japan or hell even WCPW, that match he had
00:25 with Will Ospreay was a bloody corker, wherever he jumps out the sky he tends to leave behind
00:29 at least one all time great.
00:30 He is a very good wrestler and thoroughly deserves to be on the cover of 2K22 and speaking
00:35 of which, this video is sponsored by WWE 2K22, available now on Playstation 4, Playstation
00:40 5, Xbox Series X and S, PC.

00:46 We've been playing it in the office this week and on the Raw Review Podcast, and had
01:02 a lot of fun playing it.
01:04 Go Eric Bischoff, go.
01:05 Thank you to WWE 2K22 for sponsoring this video, but if we're completely honest, any
01:09 excuse to talk about some of these matches we will gladly take because they do, honestly,
01:14 hit different.
01:15 And as we know, we're all a little bit different, and we're all a little bit different, but
01:16 we're all a little bit different.

02:42 And we're all a little bit different.
02:43 And we're all a little bit different.
02:44 And we're all a little bit different.
02:45 8.
02:46 Mysterio Jr vs Ultimo Dragon - WW3 '96
02:47 Wouldn't be a Rey Mysterio match without a bit of superhero cosplay.
02:51 Turns out he was a huge nerdy back in the mid 90s before it was cool.
02:54 For his match against Ultimo Dragon, sorry, Ultimate Dragon at WW3, Mysterio dressed as
02:59 Spider-Man and wrestled at a speed that would profoundly irritate J. Jonah Jameson.
03:02 Also, absolute lolla, Ultimo Dragon's karate kicks.
03:05 Although yes, if he ever hit me with one of those, my soul would instantly leave my body.
03:08 It's an intense back and forth between two lucha legends, counter upon counter, springboard
03:13 upon springboard, after only a few months in WCW, Rey was already starting to garner
03:16 huge reactions and draw rave reviews, and this is one of his very best in the land where
03:20 the big boys play.
03:22 7.
03:23 Mysterio vs Angle - SummerSlam 2002
03:25 What a debut.
03:26 After spending the 90s having a raft of classics in ECW and WCW, it was unclear whether WWE
03:31 would get Rey Mysterio.
03:32 After all, WCW might have committed a horrendous crime in removing Rey's mask, but it was
03:36 at least a promotion that dedicated serious match time to cruiserweights.
03:39 WWE, not so much.
03:41 However, those fears were allayed at SummerSlam 2002, with the opening match pitting a debuting
03:45 Rey Mysterio against Kurt Angle and holy s***, talk about a pair of wrestlers with chemistry.
03:50 With his fundamental speed and power, Angle was a perfect base for Mysterio's high-flying
03:54 offense and from the first bell, the match moves at a clip.
03:57 Sure, Mysterio might have lost, but after repeatedly besting one of the best to ever
04:00 do it, he instantly made a name for himself with the WWE faithful.
04:03 Helps me put the mask back on him as well.
04:05 What were you thinking, Eric, mate?
04:07 6.
04:08 John Morrison vs John Morrison Smackdown September 4th, 2009
04:11 A proper WCW-style cruiserweight match, except with much louder reactions from the very beginning.
04:17 It's a proper little hidden away gem, as the master of the 619 wrestled the Shaman
04:21 of Sexy for the Intercontinental title, and it was very good indeed.
04:24 There's something about Rey Rey wrestling for the IC title that brings out the best
04:27 in him.
04:28 He had a corker against Ziggler for the strap at SummerSlam '09, a match against Jericho
04:30 - we'll get to that - but this one against Morrison is sensational.
04:34 Genuinely, it matches the speeds of some of his mid-90s matches, because the man is in
04:38 capable of aging, it seems.
04:39 The Smackdown crowd are proper loud for the whole thing, counters on counters, fancy headscissors
04:44 and the like.
04:45 Morrison swatting Mysterio out of the air with an amazing dropkick, ending with maybe
04:48 the only painful looking starship pain Morrison has ever hit.
04:52 Brilliant TV match.
04:53 5.
04:54 Mysterio vs Shawn Michaels Raw November 14th, 2005
04:58 This is more of an emotional pick than a match with the quickest moves, but damn does this
05:01 TV match make you feel a ways.
05:03 Mysterio has had a few great matches with HBK, because so do a lot of people, to be
05:07 fair.
05:08 They had a fantastic one on Smackdown in 2010 ahead of the Heartbreak Kid's retirement,
05:10 but this is their best, due in no small part to the tragic circumstances that brought it
05:15 all together.
05:16 The first time Mysterio faced Michaels one-on-one was on November 14th, 2005, the first Raw
05:21 after Eddie Guerrero died.
05:23 Theirs is the official tribute match, and it's typically fantastic.
05:27 WWE book Mysterio and Michaels as true equals in a two-gel, as well as you might expect.
05:32 Not only is it an intense back-and-forth contest, but Mysterio also pins Michaels clean as a
05:37 sheet.
05:38 No distractions, roll-ups, nothing.
05:39 1, 2, 3.
05:40 As the two men embrace in the middle of the ring after their first ever singles match
05:43 together, not a dry eye in the house.
05:45 4.
05:46 Mysterio Jr vs Juventud Guerrero ECW Big Ass Extreme Bash
05:50 This match has Rey Mysterio flipping someone off in it.
05:53 ECW, you are the land of the extreme.
05:55 Also the land of the f***ing quick.
05:57 Jesus, springboarding, Christ.
05:59 It's one of Rey's last matches in ECW before he makes the jump to WCW.
06:03 Fighting the juice himself at ECW's Big Ass Extreme Bash, god the 90s were wonderful.
06:07 And speaking of wonderful, this 2 out of 3 falls match is ludicrous.
06:10 I make fun of ECW sometimes, but those fans knew how to watch a Lucha Libre match, not
06:15 only cheering the high spots, of which there were many, the moonsault into the crowd, Jesus,
06:20 the plancha into the crowd, Jesus, but also offering polite applause for the seamless
06:24 technical transitions.
06:25 It's always nice to be appreciated.
06:27 The action even spills outside into the parking lot at some point.
06:29 The whole thing is a lot.
06:31 It became an infamously tape-traded match, the kind of thing that made a name for both
06:34 Mysterio and ECW as a whole.
06:36 Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho, The Bash 2009
06:40 This match rules.
06:41 A match for Chris Jericho's Intercontinental title, with Mysterio putting his mask on the
06:44 line for a little extra spice.
06:46 Mysterio does a great line in spotfest, but he also works super well as a plucky David
06:51 against a conceited Goliath.
06:52 See also everything he's ever done with Kurt Angle.
06:55 This match is born off the back of Jericho being a bad man and ripping off Rey's mask
06:59 from a previous match, and it benefits enormously from that story being told.
07:03 Few men can keep a match narrative ticking over like Y2J, and he's a proper little
07:06 sh*t bag throughout, constantly clawing at Rey's mask.
07:09 However, when he finally manages to rip it off again, surprise, there's another one
07:12 underneath which leads to Mysterio pinning the bad man.
07:14 A hugely satisfying ending to a match full of big moves, white knuckle kickouts, seamless
07:19 counters, high stakes, and tons of audience investment.
07:22 Mysterio and Edge vs. Angle and Benoit, No Mercy 2002
07:26 One of the best straight up tag matches at WWE have ever aired outside of NXT.
07:30 Featuring four members of the vaunted Smackdown 6, the mid-card sex set that made Smackdown
07:33 the vastly superior show in the first year of the brand split.
07:36 It was also the finals of a tournament, so obviously that just adds three extra stars
07:39 onto its rating from me, crowning the inaugural Smackdown Tag Team Championships.
07:43 It starts well, gets better, and ends best.
07:46 Mysterio and Angle renewing their impeccable chemistry, Benoit being very good as usual,
07:50 Edge holding his own, setting up a bunch of amazing tag offense.
07:53 It's 20+ minutes of tag team heaven.
07:56 False finish city, it genuinely escalates to NXT takeover levels of crowd engagement
08:01 and near falls.
08:02 Four astonishingly good wrestlers doing astonishingly good wrestling for 20 minutes.
08:07 That's just a winning formula.
08:08 Mysterio Jr. vs. Eddie Guerrero, Halloween Havoc 1997
08:13 Had to be.
08:14 And not just because Eddie's ascended to wrestling godhood since his passing, lionizing
08:17 his entire back catalogue, but simply because this is a f***ing brilliant wrestling match.
08:21 To call it WCW's greatest cruiserweight match is saying something, and yet it is.
08:26 An almost accidental masterpiece.
08:28 Two people just doing everything right for one night of their lives.
08:31 They have insanely good chemistry, attempt insanely ambitious stuff, and they nail it
08:36 all to the point where it approaches literal magic.
08:38 That springboard moonsault into a DDT, it's perfect.
08:41 It is perfect.
08:42 Throw in some Jericho-like touches of Eddie being a horrible bastard and raising the match's
08:46 temperature by clawing at Rey's mask.
08:48 It just rules.
08:49 It rules so hard.
08:50 Eddie ruled so hard.
08:52 And Rey continues to rule so hard.
08:54 Well done, Rey Mysterio.
08:56 And that's our list.
